Michael Mosley

I've been really shocked by this event, and they have now found a body:

My thoughts are with his family.

  • Very sad.
  • All very sad and a little bit strange.  He must have suffered a medical episode.

    RIP
  • Always listened to him with interest.  Been following the story and after 4-5 days always seemed this would be the eventual sad outcome.  RIP.
  • A very sad loss - at least his family can now start grieving.

Seemed a very positive and passionate man.
  • Very tragic but always the outcome I expected, sadly. Found it strange from the off that he said he was feeling unwell so would walk back to their friends villa alone. Really? Now sounds like he was found in an area that had already been searched. All very odd.
  • I really liked his programmes, a sad loss.

  • Seemed a lovely man. Remember a programme he did about sleep & your body clock.

    RIP.
  • So sad. Always enjoyed his Just One Thing podcast.
  • Realise that I am probably FAR from the truth but having left his mobile at home ( and his sunglasses ?) I wondered whether he knew that he was suffering from a terminal disease and didn't want his loved ones to go through distressing times as he succumbed .

Apologies if this is inappropriate but it's something I have been musing about for a couple of days.

    Sleep tight, Michael.
  • A clever and entertaining main. It seems a bit early to 'RIP' unless they've now identified the body, but I guess we all know where this is heading.

Exactly. Sadly it probably will turn out to be him, but it’s disrespectful at this stage to say that when even his family don’t know for sure yet and you’d think haven’t given up hope that it will turn out to be someone else.

I think the BBC article is just being polite until he is formally identified. Some foreign news outlets are already reporting he is dead. One added this quote - “It is certainly him,” said deputy mayor Nikitas Grillis, pending formal identification.
  • an interesting man with quite a unique approach to medicine, healthcare and well being .. his is a mysterious death and I doubt if the 'truth' will be easy to determine .. R I P Michael
  • Very sad news, but it does seem strange that someone with his medical knowledge, would go walking on his own, in extreme heat of over 40C.
  • Reading the Greek press it’s definitely him and it would appear he fell and landed on a rocky shelf just above the water & was spotted by a fishing boat. He was still holding onto his leather bag but his umbrella was found beside him.
Just seems like a tragic accident.
I’ve never seen him on TV & not read any of his stuff but he seems to have been loved and admired by many.
    May he RIP.
  • Confirmed by his wife now. RIP Michael.
  • Someone with with the ability and desire to improve the nation's health and understanding of medicine.

    RIP Michael Mosley.
  • A great communicator, made science interesting.
A sad loss at a relatively young age.
  • Never heard of him until a few days ago. But sad story and my sympathies are with his family and friends. RIP.
  • RIP Michael

  • Saddened like many.  Always enjoyed his TV and radio shows and often followed his advice. A friendly voice of authority and educational too. Feels like losing a celebrity friend without having met him in person. Like Fanny above, i had a sense he wasn't quite himself on his last couple of tv shows but they would have likely been filmed a long while ago.

I'm also troubled that he was very close to help having reached that fence and that makes me wonder if cries for help went ignored, or if only the search had got to that area quicker. We shall very likely never know.

Maybe helps to shine some light on the John Tossell case who went missing on another Greek island 5 years ago.

  • What a waste.  RIP Michael you brought enlightened reason and fact to a medium that is drowning us in complete and utter bollocks.   God bless your family.
  • Speculation is understandable, but setting off on an arduous walk in midday in Crete in summer across arid, difficult terrain is cause enough.

RIP.  I really enjoyed his style and commitment to simplicity and clarity.
  • Very sad.  RIP Michael
  • Such a shame. He was absolutely brilliant at helping people lose weight and popularising easy to follow methods.

Dr Mosley died from exhaustion while walking in searing heat last week, according to the initial findings from the autopsy into his death.

Such a tragic story , this fella was an inspiration in life , i watched a few of his tv programmes, am hoping that his death will also help save lives / help people take precautions when on hoilday / in extreme weather conditions, its a mistake easily done.

I can remember visiting a small town in France call Besu, it was about 43 degrees, you couldn't stand in the heat , it was searing, and had to walk round the town in the shade, it was horrible.

  • Really sad that it sounds like he almost got to some help.

    RIP.
  • So he got to the fence, maybe had enough energy to call out for help, but died there. And no one at the marina apparently searched the immediate surroundings during the search period. More to this methinks than 'natural causes'.
