Enslin looks like another who may well go out.
Not with our lack of cover on the left. He is a player on the brink of a breakthrough similar to Fullah's. Just needs three months being around the first-team squad.

Good luck to him. He is a decent player and a great character as well.

Not sure if true but def rumours of a fall out with Jones last season after an incident  and didn’t feature much after that.

A 100%er on pitch so fans will always be forgiving of the odd mistake from those, but I think he needs to have a lot of consistent football and improve a bit in L1 before being Champ level.

Wish him well but not sure we’ll see him in a Charlton shirt again.
  • Feel like he really bought character to our side.  His error and redemption against Burton last season shows that.  And like others have said, supreme shithouser 👍

Personally I think he is a very good league 1 defender and in time he could get championship standard so a few more seasons in league1 and more games will benefit him.
  • I think he'll do really well for Argyle, he's a decent no-nonsense defender and towards the end of last season got more comfortable with the ball and with his passing out......... can't remember exactly when, but on occasion could play an excellent defense splitting ball to create a goal out of nothing..... good luck Alex.

I really hope this isn't the last we see of Mitch in red. Still only 23, and look how long it has taken someone as good as Lloyd Jones to come into his own. He has the attributes to be a very good championship defender.

As for all the comments about pace, and comfort on the ball etc, I don't believe we saw enough of him to make that assessment. He was always in unsettled sides and we were very bad/going throuch teething issues when he was playing mostly. Unfortunately for Mitch, Lloyd Jones & Kayne Ramsay are just top players and it was always going to be a hard task to dislodge one of those two.

Reckon like Terry Taylor he will do very well on loan, and be a standout player. Best of luck to him, top bloke and his family are lovely as well, the exact type of character I like to see at Charlton. 👍🏻
I think 30 competitive starts is enough to know they are weaker areas of his game. I don't think it means he can't play Championship football one day, that potential is still there, but he's never going to be known for spraying impressive passes out from the back, carrying the ball into midfield, or comfortably outpacing quick strikers.
I'm not sure the Championship potential is there to be honest. He reminds of Matt Taylor in 11/12, a good honest defender in L1, but lacking the athleticism needed in the Championship.

It's nice that he scored on his final league game for us though.
I always felt a bit bad for Matt Taylor in this respect. He lost his place initially to Leon Cort, which was fair enough as Cort was a good player but I remember he came back in when Cort and Dervite weren't available and looked far better than anyone thought he would. He started 6 Championship games and we only lost 2 of them and won 3 (and one of them was Millwall), then he got dropped again.

It's a shame he's gone because Mitchell is only one injury away from playing in the Championship for an extended run and surprising people, but we know that he joined us in the first place because he wasn't interested in sitting on a bench and training, he wanted to play. He left his boyhood club for that and then lost his place halfway through the season so another year of hoping to feast on scraps probably didn't appeal. I think he was unfortunate in that we ended up having four players competing for three spaces and he managed to be just behind one of the others in a key department. He lacked the incredible recovery pace of Ramsay, the pure dominating strength of Jones and the passing ability of Gillesphey. Those players got picked based on having one really outstanding quality alongside their general defensive strengths whereas Mitchell was just pretty good across the board. I don't think it's impossible that he could have a good Championship career but he either needs to become more comfortable on the ball or more aggressive and dominant as an old school centre back if he's going to stand out

For much of the early part of last season he was one of our best players. Sorry to see him go, though think it maybe for the best assuming we have the right to recall him if necessary.

No, think it was an incident not a personality thing.

Am I misremembering that he was late for something, dropped for a game and then spoke to fans at the game saying he had no idea why he'd been dropped

I think that was the Blackpool game at home, when he was dropped for REG.

Had the pleasure of seeing REG launch two consecutive throw-ins straight off the pitch that game.

He was dropped at Blackpool because NJ said he wanted someone more aggressive and better in the build up but REG didn’t really have the quality despite being the right profile. Probably explain why NJ has preferred Bell to Macca start of the season as well seems like he likes his wide centrebacks to have a lot of pace/aggression and can comfortably bring the ball out

Strong in the middle of a three or four but doesn't have the nous to play RCB or RB. His passing seemed decent to me.

I've always liked Mitchell, but like Gillesphey is prone to a poor pass. Defensively though he's solid and loves a marauding run. Rate him higher than Gilly personally.

Was more likely to hit row Z instead of a Charlton player with the ball, even when not under pressure.

Liked him and a great character to have around the squad but League 1 is his level. Would get absolutely torn apart in the champ worse than Gilly. I expect Plymouth to make it permanent in Jan.

be interesting to see how much we’d want for him. Saw we paid 300K + 20% sell on to Millwall. In today’s market 360k for a good L1 CB isn’t bad by any means in order to break even on him If we don’t see him having a future here

The sell-on would be calculated on any profit, so as long as we got the 300k (if that's what it was) we wouldn't lose out.

Genuinely wouldn’t want us to sell him until we know which league we’ll be in
  • We are so over reliant on Lloyd Jones, if he breaks down for any length of time we are stuffed as the only one who can step into his shoes is Burke who is permanently injured.

Unless we can bring in someone else,.then Alex Mitchell is probably the best reserve we have as an aggressive ball attacking CB.

Personally I would be thinking of recalling him.  Would be unfair on him as he would be a squad player but we can't have situations like Saturday with Jones getting a knock on the head and throwing up but carrying on.
