This is marginally more entertaining than Lincoln v Charlton
Are they even playing the same game?
I think I’ve mentioned it on this thread before, but sometimes when you watch these fast paced, frenetic, Premier League matches it does kind of feel like a different sport. If we were to play one of these top sides and they treated it like a league game - no semi-reserve side playing at 70% and still winning comfortably as we’d see in a cup match - I think we’d do well to only lose by 10.
  • Is there a reason (other than “because they’re twats”) that the fans behind the spurs goal keep chucking stuff on the pitch?

I think it’s the bits of card from their tifo display before the match. Pretty sure they’re only chucking them on the pitch because they’re twats.

    Attack, attack attack:

Spurs v Chelsea now a Desmond after Spurs pegged back. Two clear red cards not given to make this a 10 aside match but other than skill, speed, movement, awareness, fitness and talent is this much different from Burton v Charlton 🤔
  • If Son had put that away it would’ve caused an interesting debate.
For me, I’d argue it was onside - the defenders stopped playing, but the argument has always been “play to the whistle” right?
  • Chelsea 3-2 up and another attack ends with a good strike from Enzo after Palmer shows his magic feet again.

Big test for Chelsea 2-0 down so early, but they've come through this and whilst i don't think they're quite ready to be title challengers yet, and i still feel they need a better striker than Jackson, as this young team all on their 7-8 year contracts gets more experienced under Maresca they're going to be a serious threat in the coming seasons.
  • Superb Paneka that
  • I know that they're about 10 lightyears ahead of us, but I feel like I can really relate to spurs fans. So predictable

More magic from Palmer who invites the foul in the Box from another naive Spurs player and then paneka's his way to a brace of scored penalties.

    2-4.

  • That’s an amazing precision pass to tee up Son

3-4 after a goal from Son.

Full time and yet again some great attacking but the defending lacks the basics.
  • Spurs really are the gift that keep on giving.
  • Spurs 3 points below both Fulham and Brentford, and 4-5 behind Bournemouth and Forest, isn't great for Big Ange.
  • Haha! Cucurella changing his boots after slips give away two goals. Ludicrously amateur.

Well, I've slept off the haze of Neck Oil, Guinness and a sore throat...

Took the nephew to only his second game.  Finally got his kit in the shop.  Absolute bedlem first 10 minutes.  His eyes were as wide as saucers in a sea of limbs around him at 2-0 and his smile was huge.  80 mins later, he looked like a bulldog chewing a wasp and wanted the ground to swallow him up.  Welcome to Spurs young padawan...

    A few observations...

Yes, we've got injuries and a massive suspension but its the bloody basics again.  I'll cut Sarr some slack as he's young and never stops running but given his age and experience, what planet was Bissouma on for the first penalty.  Ridiculous challenge.

I feel sorry for Ange but he's on thin ice now, make no mistake.  There seems to be some blind loyalty amongst our fan base that seem to think he is the second coming of christ but he is far from that.  He doesn't seem willing to learn from mistakes.  He need to change that.  Whether he'll be given time to learn, I'm not sure.

I stress I don't want him to go as we need some stability and I hope he can get it right but Levy has sacked managers for less.  Our form is beyond dire and its worrying times.

Palmer was MOTM by a country mile.

In the corresponding fixture last season, Romero was sent off for winning the ball and then following through on to the shin of a Chelsea Player.  Not sure who it was but they didn't win the ball and then went through the shin so that should have been a red from what I saw on the tv in the pub after.  Kulu should have seen red too.

The only thing I haven't seen a replay of, in the build up to Chelsea's second, it looked like the ball has gone out for a throw, linesman was right on top of it and waved play on but from behind the goal it looked out and it indirectly led to their second goal.  Did they show a replay on the tv and was it out?

And it didn't go unnoticed that whilst Bentancur was sitting out his 7 game suspension for racism, he who walks free Enzo Fernandes rocks up and scores the third.

Is this true? He seemed to be getting a lot of stick from the travelling fans at Bournemouth after the defeat last week.

As an outsider though i agree with you that you should keep him. Conte and Mourinho have failed and Nuno is showing with Forest that he is far from an idiot, so at what point do people finally wake up and realise the problems run far deeper than the manager.

Give him the money/players he needs to try and build something. Look at Arsenal, they finished 8th, 8th and 5th in Arteta's first 3 seasons.

  • As was noted on MOTD last night, extraordinary that Spurs gave away TWO such blatant penalties, that there wasn't any protest at all for either of them. Both were terrible bits of defending.
  • I'd say the fan base is split 50/50 at the moment on Ange.  We have to stick with him but he needs to stop being so bloody stubborn and adapt.  Hopefully the form will pick up as and when players start coming back but worrying that Romero and Van der Venn both went off against yesterday.  I do wonder if Van der Venn only came back because Davies pulled his hamstring against Bournemouth.

At the moment, it looks like Dragusin and Gray at CB Thursday night.

I agree he is stubborn, especially with the full backs. Porro and Udogie are far more suited to a manager that plays wing backs but for me they lack the ability to play as inverted full backs.

Fair enough there is no competition for Udogie so he kind of has to play, but Porro is so poor defensively so i can't work out why Ange doesn't give Spence a chance there.
  • Cole Palmer, christ, the kid is special
  • Spurs done the right thing , just in case the scousers implode we need Chelsea as an extra blocker for the gooners

Someone mentioned earlier, but there’s something very Charlton about Spurs (at vastly different levels obvs). Not sure what you did in a past life to end up a spurs fan with an affinity for Charlton!
  • They might be a Big 6 club off the pitch, but Spurs on the pitch don't deserve to be talked about in the same way as the other 5.

No trophies since the EFL Cup in 2008
    No FA Cup since 1991
    No European trophy since 1984
    No League title since 1961

Which is the curious thing about being a Spurs manager. You're judged on competing hard with the top sides, when  for the last 30 years, they generally haven't.

Porro.  In the opposition half, there is no one better.  In our own half, christ, I dread to think how many goals he's been culpable of if I go back far enough. I can't remember the build up for Sancho's goal although it came from his side of the pitch but he was definitely guilty of making himself as small as possible for the third.

Your dead right about Udogie too.  There is no competition.  Its a gaping hole in the squad which hasn't been addressed in two transfer windows which is baffling in all honesty.  I guess the recruitment team saw that Gray had played there a couple of times for Leeds and thought that would do!

But then the recruitment teams and powers that be had decided only 3 recognised CBs was ok, with a now veteran LB filling in when required was ok.  What professional football team in the top 4 leagues goes into a season with only 3 recognised CBs?  3 of the 4 are injured (and a 5th one - Phillips was sent out on loan at the start of the season!)

I'm amazed that Spence isn't even getting a chance.  I dont get that at all.  When he was at Forest he looked really bloody good.  He had a rough time under Conte and then his attitude wasn't right but by all accounts, he's knuckled down and been excellent in training yet he's only had a few minutes here and there.

I have asked myself this a number of times, trust me.
  • Wolves have been absolutely shafted by VAR in this match. 2 pretty clear penalties not given.
