Problem yet again here is width. England were doing well with overlapping full/wing backs. Now we've got a bunch of central players and one isolated wing back at each side.

Trippier and Foden down the left definitely wasn’t working well.

The right was though and most of our chances came from Saka/Walker pairing.
We've neutered that to now leave two players isolated outside with no real support easily being able to be marked.
There's two options to fix it, channel running by Foden and Bellingham to create openings for Saka/Trippier overlaps.
Or lots and lots of crosses from Trippier and Saka into Kane + another striker. That's why I think Foden for Toney was the better move.

Overall though we weren’t playing well enough, we needed to up the tempo so personally I’d have been disappointed if we stuck with the same 4-3-3/4-2-3-1.
They should both drift about in those roles with the freedom to come wide but we’ll see how well it works in reality. I wouldn’t have minded two strikers up there to give us someone who can run in behind.
I hope we don’t go one up and then do the normal sit back if we do that we lose. Just play the game we are the better team man for man if we don’t over think things we win
Foden and Saka should have been dropped for Palmer and Gordon and kept the 4231, the 352 only works with proper wingbacks on both sides and Trippier and Saka aren't that

Why do I never learn.

Assuming it is the 3421 then fair enough, will take that line up and formation.
