It used to be a big thing, prime time tv on a Sunday night, with a full sports review of the year.
Now it seems the majority of people didn't even know it was on.
It changed a couple of years ago because it would have clashed with the the Qatar WC Final and has been the same since. The BBC have since used the excuse that more people are able to attend on a Tuesday but that made no difference to Bellingham. I also think that it is shorter in duration than it used to be and with Gary Lineker stepping down, it's also the first time that we've had all female presenters. The times they are a changin'.
- there's a physical action that is required, differentiating between doing well and doing badly; - there is a clearly defined scoring system
The standard is also way, way up on the days when you had Cliff Lazarenko lighting Jocky Wilson's cig for him (great sportsmanship that), even if a lot of players do remain in a certain physical mould.

Bellingham to be fair to him is in Qatar because Madrid have a game there tonight.
I think they were all worthy candidates, maybe Bellingham and Root a little less so as there was not a particular win you could pin on them ( I know Jude won the Champions League, but that was playing for Johnny Foreigner, and that doesn't count ).
Star of the show was Ms Storey Jnr - what a great little presenter!
