  • Great win we looked really good defensively and no big defensive mistakes which is brilliant for my heart rate. Anyone who was there did you see Paul Hart? I couldn’t see him on the sideline.
  • A lot of over eager marks in the playa rata thread.

However we looked comfortable without ever stepping out of first gear
  • Successful teams build from the back so I’m more encouraged by the clean sheet than I am worried by the limited chances we had.
  • Hopefully that breeds confidence and we're a bit braver on the ball next week. Thought we played backwards and safe a bit too often (leading to a hoof) but can't complain at the result at all. Way more solid than last season.

  • Only saw up to the 90th min (Sky sort it out FFs). Thought we were excellent defensively throughout. Looked like everyone knew their responsibilities.

Need to see a lot more from us an attacking perspective but I will worry about that next Saturday.

Great to start the season with a win and a clean sheet.
  • Can never complain about an away win first game of the season.

Keep this up and we'll be promoted by Easter
  • Mostly crap but early stages and a win is a win.
More annoyed at the loss of the old Charlton TV coverage. Unless we have an outstanding season I'm unlikely to pay for the stream now like I always used to.
  • A strong defensive performance meant we were able to snatch victory from the jaws of parity. Not pretty to watch though - way too many failed passes. However, last season's team would have lost this, so that's progress.
  • It wasn't scintilating but it was hard working, we kept a clean sheet and we won.

I'll take another 45 like that.

Big roar in the Radical when Jones scored, strikers finish, lots of swearing when the feed went down.

  • Defensively good on the whole, midfield workmanlike, up front the weak link but will hopefully improve. What a finish from a centre back. Clean sheet win, happy days.
  • That was an excellent performance in a very tight game, either side could have won it but we looked more certain at the back with Jones and Mitchell outstanding. The last ditch header away by Edwards and the saving tackle by Ramsey were highlights but the two centre backs won everything in the air. Midfield worked hard but didn't seem to want to push on, maybe because of Campbell not being able to find space.
  • As soon as the fixtures came out, I said we’d win this 0-1, with Lloyd Jones scoring the winner.
I hope you put money on it. L.Jones was 66/1 to score the first goal
    Yep, 50k
  • We didn't look like world beaters but we weren't often overrun either. Seeing out the game without causing too many palpitations was an encouraging sign.

I don't think Wigan could have won it. On the very rare occasion they got a sight of goal there was a defender there to deal with it. Aside from a deflected shot wide we dealt with everything before they even got the shot away. Wigan were tidy and had a lot of the ball but that back 5 weren't letting them near it today
  • Brilliant. First game of the season, away from home, loads of new players playing in a very set style and we came away with 3 points. I think we were going into that quite happy to come away with a point and a clean sheet but looking to make the most of any chances that came our way and we did that, which is very pleasing. It's not pretty to watch but our style is going to be to allow teams to have pointless possession Garner-style and then either deny space and use our big CBs to stop the ball in or allow them to play it back and press them very high. All our chances came from either long balls over the top where we were first onto the clearance or getting a foot in high and winning the second ball. It's not pretty but it's very effective and it's worth remembering that we were playing away from home against a team who will be looking to be in the promotion picture this season. I think we'll risk being a bit more adventurous with our wingbacks and midfielders at home against weaker teams but Jones will want us to not lose these tough away games and win them if we can through being horrible hard-working bastards. We did that today and I don't care if people were bored 30 minutes in.

Feels like an interesting comparison with last season as well; we won 1-0 at home against Orient but we were meant to be a front-footed team who would blow them away and we squeaked by fairly undeservedly. Today felt like a perfectly executed gameplan instead of a smash and grab and that bodes well.
I think you overrate Wigan a little but pretty accurate in how we're wanting to play away from home.
  • Some really encouraging performances today. Not getting carried away at all but away win, clean sheet. Miles and Godden to return. If we can add a bit more creativity in midfield then who knows this season? Good feeling tonight unlike so much of last season. Special shout for Edwards. UTA.
  • Far from an ‘ugly performance’ albeit very assured and tight defectively - not much magic going forward however!

Not sure who’s more frustrating - Winger Tyreece Campbell or Striker Tyreece Campbell, just didn’t seem to get much today and felt for Ahadme who looks like he needs a more solid and ‘blue ass fly’ strike Partner - Kanu or Leaburn could work well!

    Edward : what a player!
