I travelled extensively around Norfolk for years, I have friends in Hethersett, Norwich, Roughton, Coltishall and further away in Halesworth, Diss area. My daughter lived in Wymondham, which I thought was a lovely small town, with a railway station, think the Queens Head pub was excellent. I might end up there one day, but the wife has a job in the City of London, so no chance with her current commute from Leigh On Sea being less then a hour each way.
I found the coastal areas very quiet in the winter, but too busy in the summer. If you are 15 mins from the coast (and won’t be under water in 20 years) that works.
FWIW, did the drive down to Stone Crossing on Saturday, there's parking on the Rainham platform side of the station (Charles Street) and a footbridge to the London bound platform. Station is a bit of a ghost town. Train direct to Charlton takes 28 mins and they run every half hour both ways so quick and easy to get back to the car. Then only a hop, skip and a jump to get back through the tunnel.

If only that facility wad the other side of the river so we wouldn't have to pay a fiver to cross and go back PLUS train fare.
Sounds like it's possibly a few mins quicker if you time it right, but more expensive...is that the gist?
Assuming there is free parking, I guess it also solves the issue of new parking restrictions.
Which is basically the same as driving via Blackwell will be when they start charging
I really want travelling by public transport to work... but it basically works out more expensive and/or less convenient than driving however you currently carve it (well... unless you factor in being able to drink... and/or being able to switch off a bit on journeys.. which, to be fair, make it worth it to me sometimes)
Good suggestions though, AFKA. Will probably try one out sometime... just for the experience/when there are traffic issues
Redbridge was the other one people would sometimes do
When working in the City my boss used to drive to Audley End from Mildenhall and train into London from there. Don’t know how that would work and how much it’ll cost.
Thing is, people shouldn't have to be looking at options for planes, trains and automobiles to get to a football match. All about the money, fines, residents parking fees etc. Couldn't care less about serving the people they represent. 80% didn't want this apparently but hey ho.
Cromer seems to be a favourite amongst friends that have moved up there. Had some great holidays at Hemsby and on the Broads.
I'll give you 18 months before you start pointing at planes.
Very happy memories of a boat trip around the Broads on leaving school with a few friends. I wonder if they’ve done anything about the Potter Higham bridge yet, so low that it was almost impossible to get through for amateurs like us. I remember families picnicking on the bank enjoying the sight of all the scraped hulls.
Ditto - we did a trip after A-levels. We couldn't believe they'd hired a boat to eight 18 year-old boys but when we saw it, we realised they couldn't have hired it to anyone else!
Immediately took the restrictors off and could get the nose out of the water on full power (of a 40 foot barge). Eventually blew the head gasket. It was 1986, so we were watching the world cup. There was only one socket, so we rigged the socket to take a tv and stereo. It just meant both were live and we had to operate the controls with pencils.
Finished off by keeping Norwich awake all night with an epic, drunken water fight that finished with someone letting off a dry powder extinguisher and a frantic exit that blew the bloody doors off.
We spent the last day of our holiday repairing all the damage. Somehow, we passed the inspection and got our deposit back.

Obviously, still can't get on the beers
Missing any factors?
No you got it, that's about it. I got a lift to Stone as my partners mum lives in Kent so it fitted with her plans for the day. For the Birmingham game last Saturday I did a train to Cambridge, then one to Farringdon and then another one straight to Charlton. It was a long journey, about 3 hours each way for me but meant I didn't have to worry about driving and having a couple of pints. I can't make it for Stockport but for Wrexham I'm going to try driving to Marks Tey (45 mins for me) then train to Stratford and connection to North Greenwich station (about 90 mins in total on both trains) and breaking my fast on the way to the ground at the River Ale House.....
Just in case it's useful to anyone, I've been looking up how to get from North Greenwich station to the ground...... both walking and by bus...... thought I'd post it here:-
Walking:-
From the station go straight down Monto Way
At end go left on E Parkside
First right on W Parkside
Go past Neal Street on right
Cross straight over John Harrison Way
Continuing on W Parkside
Past Dryden Rd, Hubbard St & Gilroy St
Turn right onto Peartree Way
Go past Horn Link Way on left
At roundabout take 1st exit on Bugsbys Way
Follow Bugsbys Way and turn right at Hope & Anchor Lane
Follow Hope & Anchor Lane straight into Charlton Church Lane
According to Google it'd take a little over 40 mins........ but I find it's always a bit quicker than they say.
Buses from N Greenwich to Charlton:-
These each take around 12 mins or so according to TFL website. Get off the buses around the Woolwich Road/Church Lane crossroads or Charlton station....... depending on which number you catch. They all run frequently so it looks pretty easy really.
The names in brackets are the destination which I'm hoping is the one on the front of the bus.......
161 (Chislehurst), 180 (Erith/Fraser Road) or 472 (Gayton Road/Abbey Wood) from Stop A at the station.
486 (Bexleyheath) from Stop B.
I'm planning on getting the bus there (as I'm trying to be at the ground for around 1pm) and walking back to N Greenwich as I'm assuming the roads will be chockablock after the game as it's sounding like there may be a full crowd...... hope so...... I'm really looking forward to it! COYR!!

But it's handy for Potters Resort if you like your indoor bowls with the World Championships there in January.

Must be like living in a black and white film.
