Can you spare us 30 mins to tell us what you like,(Dislike) about Charlton LifeGribbo said:The endless stream of marketing shite you get after making a purchase these days. Always opt out when I see the opportunity, but recently theyve been coming through thick and fast, not just email but text and even WhatsApp ffs.
Muckboots - Bought a pair for Mrs, was inundated with texts and emails asking if I was happy or if I'm ready to make my next purchase.
Mindful Chef - Emails and texts, and what looks like a hand written note from one of their "chefs" just dropped through the letterbox.
BT (EE) - Must be 3 or 4 texts or emails every time a bill is ready, and that only for our private contract. We get he same for business contract
DPD - WhatsApping me ffs
Fuck off ffs

Companies have spent a lot of money on AI language models and are desperate to utilise them to justify the investment and rub their hands together at all the humans they can get rid of.
We, as a collective consumer have got absolutely fed up with shite communication from companies, the larger they get the worse it is.
The leadership of these companies has looked at the data as opposed to the information and gone "send them emails and texts whenever anything relating to them/their sale/their account, they fucking love it"
When all we wanted was for human beings to record accurate and relevant records so we aren't having a cold start every time, so we cam get relevant updates (your delivery is 3 stops away and is estimated to be with you at 10.44) not the deluge of irrelevant shit we now receive.
There is a lesson in there somewhere0 -
There's a payment platform called Square that shares your email with places you buy from. Sometimes, I'll pay for a drink in a bar with my Monzo, and find I've been added to that bar's email marketing list, despite having never consented. I'm fairly sure this is against the law, so I don't know how they get away with it.Gribbo said:The endless stream of marketing shite you get after making a purchase these days. School kids and their disposable income. When I was at school I never had enough money to go out to eat. Had packed lunches or subsidised school dinners. They all seem to go out and invade the high streets to eat takeaway food which nowadays is not cheap and drink expensive to-go coffees. plus how long are their lunch breaks now? Used to only get 50 minutes when I was at school 20 odd years ago.3

Though I guess I did save my money for cheap cider, cigarettes and records.2

Meetings being sent to me on my days off and I see them when I log on, with nothing but a title, no context, no agenda.0

The reluctance of anyone providing a service to leave their phone number - and that includes the NHS.6

Posted either on here or one of the energy theads about Octopus upping their monthly energy DD from my account, and tought I'd give an update.
Originally paying £140 a month which seemed to cover everything over the year, but Octopus decided they wanted to increase it to £320. At the time, my account was £556.45 in debit.
Weren't having that, so I increased my payment to £200.
By beginnig of July, the balance had come down to £466.61 in debit. Octopus then decided that £200 still wasn't enough and wanted to increase it to £260.79 from August. I compromised and put it up to £220.
Fast forward to today, 4 November, and my account is now £128.08 in credit.
So, despite ignoring their recommendations and paying far more less than they wanted, I've gone from £556 in debit to being in credit.
Appreciate energy is expensive. That's one thing, but when energy firms seemingly demand exaggerated monthly payments based on their own (obviously incorrect) forecasts, it's absolute bollocks.
Why should customers have to bankroll these companies by having hundreds (over £700 in my case), potentially thousands, of pounds sitting in credit?

The John Lewis Christmas ad. 2 entitled brats turn up at their Grandmother’s house, ignore her when she tries to talk to them, give her a filthy look when there’s no cash in their cards and instead of ignoring the little shits, she fills a room with loads of stuff for them.3

There certainly are a lot of mixed raced families in TV land. I think there's a number of drivers to this, but I'm not convinced any of them are particularly woke and none are bad or sinister .Carter said:

Always curated by posh white people who are inherently actually racist but they are educated and posh so patronisation and false narratives don't count- In the realm of adverts, producers want to sell their products to people of all races. They don't want their products to be pigeonholed as stuff that only white, or only black, people use. By far the easiest way to stress the multicultural appeal of a particular product is to have mixed-race families in ads.
- Everyone has an equal right to opportunities of employment. If the best person for a role happens to be of different race then so be it.
- For a long time actors only got parts that matched their race, as Grandad Trotter noted Sidney Potter 'always plays the black man'. There weren't too many parts for Othellos or Sonny Fosters, so we didn't see many black actors. Once that wall was broken and black actors were allowed to take on more roles, producers actually found not only that they were often very good, but that audiences are actually very good at suspending any disbelief. It just doesn't matter to most people if there's a mixed race family.

As a club not sure if we offered him the contract he wanted so then it seemed he rejected us after all that, then there was the Hungarian nonsense before being a free agent then Wrexham swopped in for him.
Should of held on to him imo if it was just about a better contract1 -

I (used to, before AI) work in advertising and this is the reason. It's not about making political statements, it's just making your brand/product appear relevant for all demographics to increase sales. No doubt there is a political/cultural connotation but it's not why it's done. The reason is pure capitalism.Stig said:

I get what you’re saying - but surely they are trying to build up a credit balance during the year so that you don’t fall behind over the winter when you are using more fuel?Gribbo said:Posted either on here or one of the energy theads about Octopus upping their monthly energy DD from my account, and tought I'd give an update.

There is nothing sinister in it, it just makes me laugh how disproportionately every family in adverts and tv is mixed race. I don't "care" just makes me laughStig said:

What I mean with the last sentence is more harshly aimed at the terrified, always white and normally post 50 vintage shoving diversity drives that they simply don't understand and definitely don't believe in. The gay train a couple of years ago as an example, I very much doubt the gay community asked for a rainbow painted train and rolling stock but I guarantee a panel of grey haired white people decided it was a good idea and instead of proving or showing their diversity values by their actions or the tangible stuff that you mentioned in your bullet points they think "LOOK A GAY TRAIN, WE ARE DIVERSE"2 -
That's how I would look at it, but Octopus's own forecast on our account is £2,200 odd for the entire year's energy consumption, including winter, which is actually only about £185 a month over the year.SuedeAdidas said:

strange though that in about 90% of mixed race advert marriages the woman is white, and the husband black. Are black women supposed to be not attractive enough for white men? whereas black men have a certain appeal to white women?Chunes said:
