Wasps to share the Valley!

According to the Times

Paywalled article but in brief:

Depends on them getting slot in rugby championship (div 2) in 25,/26

They are ditching the Sevenoaks plan due to local opposition to the wider development proposed.

Possible because of new pitch at the Valley

  • so how will they manage first team, women and wasps

It makes maximum sense financially to get full use of the ground. The limiter to that has always been the pitch and what it can take but if that is resolved it has a logic to it for me. I suppose the next question is can the new improved pitch take more football and Rugby? We haven't seen it over the course of the season yet though of course there is a lot of information about similar pitches.
  • Guessing our lease might have sub-letting clauses so may have to negotiate with Roland.
  • and what about days. with first team and women what day so wasps fit in
  • I hope we get promotion, and don’t have to go down this route.

    Friday
  • Think the pitch would probably be ok, the durability is part of the point of it and it would only be 10 matches. Agree with oohaah about the lines, it looks awful. I also can’t see that it would bring much value given their financial issues
  • I am a big fan of Rugby Union, was a fan of Wasps, BUT this idea (I doubt it will ever happen mind you) is one for the waste paper bin .. as said the damage to the pitch and the logistics of 'ground sharing' would probably cost more than any financial benefit .. anyway how would Wasps afford to pay their way ?
  • Not at all keen on this. I have never seen the different pitch markings tackled successfully when looking at ground share pitches on the television set.
  • They can bloody well BUZZ OFF...🤦‍♂️

Thought there might be a sting in the tail with this new pitch thing
  • No issue here. Guessing we'll be prioritising then Men and Women's teams above Wasps if it does happen.

The condition of the pitch will come under pressure as it is come the winter months with both the men's and women's teams playing on it.
Makes no sense whatsoever to add a Rugby club to the mix, the pitch in all probably would suffer badly.
How do the pitches hold up at Bristol City and Swansea City when they have had Rugby Union games being played at those respective grounds for a number of years now?

Do those grounds have the same surface as we have now thanks in part to the excellent work by Louise McGing in assisting by getting a 750,000 pounds grant towards the new playing surface at the Valley.
  • Uhoh…….here we go!!!!!!
  • I'd imagine this was floated before the women's team got the confirmation to play at The Valley?

    Very unlikely.

We only got the new pitch because of the £750k grant from the FA which was contingent on the Women playing at the Valley for the next ten years.

No way, the new pitch is only because the women's team are playing at The Valley for a confirmed length of time (10 years?). There's no way the old pitch would have held up

Given Wasps recent history i'd advise we get the money up front.
    We??
That will be going straight in the Belgians sky rocket!
  • I doubt if the locals will be happy to have another 10 games with potentially 10,000+ crowds

They hold up fine, similarly at Newport where their pitch was awful before they got one of the modern pitches like the ones we now have.
  • Don’t want any egg chasers on our pitch.
