MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Rotherham Utd : Saturday 7th September 2024 : KO 15:00

Hi everyone...
Today we welcome Rotherham United to the hallowed ground for what could be a very entertaining and pivotal game, one of only three today in a week of postponements due to the international weekend, a game that some on here may have preferred to be postponed, but at the same time an opportunity to go top two, or even clear if that welsh mob lose or draw and we get the three points I think we will...

Rotherham have had a slow start under Steve Evans, picking up just one win in their opening four league matches, that came last weekend when Mallik Wilks netted a late winner in a 2-1 win against Huddersfield Town, let's make that a one match streak today...

We've locked horns on 38 previous occasions, claiming 14 wins, the Millers 14 and the remaining 10 clashes resulting in draws, so we sound evenly matched, in our previous meeting, a George Dobson scorcher separated the sides as the Addicks prevailed in South Yorkshire back in April 2022.

Anyway here we go...

Nathan Jones makes one change to the side from  last weekend as Matty Godden replaces Tyreece Campbell amongst the starting line-up.

New signing Dan Potts makes his first appearance in the squad as he is named on the bench alongside Allan Campbell.

Tennai Watson returns to the bench having missed last weekend’s clash through illness.

Nathan Jones’ side will most likely start in their preferred 3-5-2 formation, with Kayne Ramsay and Thierry Small operating the flanks.

Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macauley Gillesphey remain as the back three - starting ahead of Will Mannion in between the sticks. While it is also an unchanged midfield three as Luke Berry and Conor Coventry accompany the skipper, Greg Docherty.

Up front, Godden enters the starting eleven alongside Gassan Ahadme who receives his fixth league start this season.

Charlton: Mannion; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Ramsay, Berry, Coventry, Docherty (c), Small; Ahadme, Godden.

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Potts, Edmonds-Green, Watson, A.Campbell, T.Campbell, Aneke

C'mon you rip roaring free scoring Addicks!!

    Or summit...
  • One change. Godden for TC.

  • The pitch looks a picture ... just a shame it's going to be defiled by 90+ minutes of clogging football.
After all these years, that place still does things to me!
    Therapy is what you need.

Or a couple of gallons of mind bleach.

Steve Evans eaten the WiFi router and other bits of kit?
  • What time does the game become available to watch on red button on sky sports+?
  • I've just seen the Rotherham stats of no away win in 11 and no goals in 8. No way we win this one today.
I do t think they’ve won a league game away for almost two years .

    That’s buggered it
  • What time does the game become available to watch on red button on sky sports+?
About 5 mins before kick off ... so with our pre-match organisational skills it'll probably be about 3:10pm ...

I should imagine 5/10 mins before kick off.

Yeah Rotherham’s away form is worse than no wins in 11.

They have outright lost all of their last 11 away games.

They haven’t won in 38 away games, stretching back to November 2022 against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane where they won 0-1.

For some CAFC context, that was the same night that we beat Stevenage on penalties in the League Cup to set up the tie against Brighton.

    Bugger me ... stadium announcement:

"Due to the late arrival of our opponents, today's game will now kick off at 3:10pm"
  • Ahadme can consider himself lucky.  Not sure why we need 5 defenders on the pitch and 3 on the bench
  • Good to be starting Godden but I'm fearing Phillips will do the usual ex-player heroics; win the game for them. I also fear 2 of their players we wanted to sign last season - Nombe & Clarke Harris.
  • Their coach parked at five past two.
