Taking him off with only 10 minutes left when he's on a hat trick in his 100th appearance is a bit harsh though i think. Not like those 10 minutes of rest will make much difference.
We’ve played two poor sides but I actually see a style of play. No passing across the back, always into midfield and forward. We will give away chances against good sides but I can handle that, Spain gave up plenty in the euros but their attacking football won.
i was suprised on saturday to see how many people went out for the england game was in london bridge for a pals bday, think a lot more people now have an interest in the team which is great
I think we can already see a difference in approach in terms of game plan yes we are still trying to keep the ball but with penetration rather than trying to bore every to death
At the game. If we'd been more clinical this could have been 5 or 6. Creating chances off our press and Grealish in a free role running the show.
Looked far more like the Aston Villa Grealish than the one that Pep has turned him into. Problem for him is that he likely loses his place as soon as Bellingham is fit again.
When you think that we have the likes of Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Watkins, Reece James, Walker, Mainoo, Wharton etc who weren't out there tonight we have an embarrassment of talent if the manager can get them playing.
I think Trent has nailed down the RB spot though for the foreseeable, he was superb tonight.

A generation of talent wasted by Gareth "back to Pickford" Southgate. Before you all start shouting "finals", "semi-finals", "qualifiers", I contend his reign, however comparitively successful against previous national coaches, cost us a major throphy.
Let's hope whoever gets the permanent gig can exploit another generation of players, plastic Oirish or not!
Didn’t get to watch the game. After people got over the shock of how small he is, what were people’s thoughts on Angel Gomes?
I was excited to see his call up since I know he was so important to Carsley’s U21 side.
Such a little tidy player, especially in tight areas. He wins the ball back as well. But the stand out was he gets the ball and first thought is forward. No going back to stones or one twos with Pickford, plenty of incisive passes between the lines especially to grealish. Not all come off but the intention is there. He won’t be at Lille for long.

He is apparently out of contract at the end of the season, so it's pretty nailed on he'll have Premier league clubs chasing him.

I must admit, I am a fan of Grealish's game and abilities. If I was the England manager, he would be one of the first players on the team sheet. Yes, he has weak areas but he can spot a pass, has a good engine, doesn't lose the ball easily, can beat a man and wins you lots of free kicks. So Pep wants him to play a certain way, well if you want him to play like he did for Villa, he won't have forgotten that. I thought it was criminal that Southgate didn't even take him to the Euros.
As for Carsley's England, they have done what they needed to do. I suspect the six games being bandied about in which Carsley needs to prove himself will be a formality. I don't like this talk of proving himself, what is the rush. Temporarily fill Carsley's old job and take your time. See how we do against the better sides as that has probably been England's biggest question mark, which is a good thing when you look at it.
And if I was England manager, no Palace player would play for England. End of. I don't think England would suffer too much from that rule, even if the reasoning can be challenged. Taking four Palace players to the Euros was four too many.

Especially as Ben White continues to make himself unavailable for England
Yeah I think that's the worst i've ever seen Eze play. Quite a few were raving about Trent but thought he was poor personally. Terrible set pieces and crossing.
Gomes was brilliant, United must regret getting rid of him

But would Gomes be the same player had he stayed?
I thought Alexander-Arnold was very good - but that having a lot of time and space to drift forwards, get inside, and pick his passes suits him a lot. He is maybe more likely to struggle when there's more of a challenge from a top team at a tournament. Given Walker's age at the WC I think it's Alexander-Arnold's spot to lose now though.
All the talk pre Euros about Wharton and Mainoo and it turns out the elusive player needed alongside Rice was Angel Gomes. Thought he was superb last night
Trent is always class in games against lower opposition, his passing ability and vision allows us to break teams down. The issue with Trent is, and has always been, he gets caught out defensively against the better teams.
There is an argument that we should play Trent against the worst teams and someone more defensive like even Wan-Bissaka against the better teams.

Know what you mean re Trent but he also played two world class passes to create both goals. Potentially the difference between a 2-0 win and a classic England "not being able to beat a low block" performance. The nature of his game means it won't always come off but when it does he offers us something quite special.
Always find the “Trent will struggle against bigger teams” narrative weird, this is a guy who has played major parts in winning major trophies for his club up against big teams. I get that international football is different but he has all the right attributes he just needs willing runners to find, Saka and Gordon are those players.
Win our nations league group convincingly and I think the job is his
I'm not sure winning games against lesser teams really tells us anything about whether Carsley is the best person for the job. As we got relegated to the second tier of the Nations League, they're not the sort of top tier opponents that have prevented Southgate's England going the final step towards silverware.

Seen quite a few United fans online saying that he was a number 10 coming through the ranks, so he realistically wouldn't have played much as they play Bruno there a lot.
He has seemingly reinvented himself at Lille, so good luck to him. Seems a pretty intelligent player.
