  • Eze with a very poor cameo
Yeah I think that's the worst i've ever seen Eze play. Quite a few were raving about Trent but thought he was poor personally. Terrible set pieces and crossing.

Gomes was brilliant, United must regret getting rid of him
That is an utterly bizarre analysis of TAA's game. Poor?! Someone put together a highlights reel of him I beg
  • Do we know what the issue is with Ben White?
Not that I’m bothered by him not wishing to play for his country but I am intrigued 🤔
  • Apparently Ben White had a falling out with Steve Holland. White is one of these players that wants nothing to do with football outside of playing and this was apparently questioned in a team meeting and White took offence and has made himself unavailable since.

I know it's subjective but this is genuinely one of those moments where I wonder if I was watching a different game to you. He was superb last night
  • We have bucketloads of pacey wingers and No 10s, but Trent is the one player who can actually thread the ball through to them in dangerous positions.

You can't have enough good players and he is certainly one of those.

I was impressed by Gomes ability to do it last night
  • Impressed by Gomes and how much he showed for the ball and then moved as soon as he'd passed it. The kind of player that keeps a team ticking over.

I love that he can do it with his first touch so it's never telegraphed to the defence

If true he needs to grow a pair.

  • It’s either the case that there’s still people in the set up that he doesn’t see eye to eye with.

Or he just has no interest in playing international football. And would rather take the weekend as a break for his club football
  • Steve Holland is still there so of course his mind hasn't changed.

But you can only name so many of them in a squad and we've not been struggling in that position.

Doesnt sound like Steve Holland is part of the England setup still either, going by the below

    Didn't realise, interesting.

I think it's probably that as someone who has stated he doesn't really like football, doesn't watch football and to him it is nothing more than a job, he has no interest in going off for internationals where he isn't likely to be playing. He'd rather have the time off.

Let's be honest even though he is a good player, when we have everyone fit he would probably only be 4th choice RB behind Trent, Walker and James. If he was a LB and first choice for England then i think his attitude towards internationals might be different.
  • I don't buy the story he doesn't like football etc. Something has happened previously that he hasn't liked with the England set up. He went to one tournament and wasn't used. He would earn a lot more money playing for England and what comes of the back of that.

He’s talked before about not liking football and how the fact his dad didn’t like it growing up has helped him as he didn’t have as much pressure etc. He also earns enough money playing for Arsenal to never need to worry. In an age where players get injured over and over because they play a lot of football I have no problem with someone saying they want their summers off and a break from matches every now and then

in regards of playing for England was my point. He wants to be the main man would be my guess...

White was given the iconic No.4 that Vieira wore and he was asked if he ever saw the Frenchman play. He admitted: “No I never watched football when I was younger, I still don't now. I just loved the game so I was always playing it, but never watching it."

Also he earns over 100k a week at Arsenal, and for England i think players get something like 2k per match, but a lot of players give that to charity. So he's hardly losing out financially.

I think this is where White differs to someone like Benoit Assou-Ekotto who retired early and admitted he never liked football and just happened to be good at it and saw it like any other job.

Been plenty of interviews with him where he talks about not watching football, comes from a family who have zero interest in the sport.

At the game. If we'd been more clinical this could have been 5 or 6. Creating chances off our press and Grealish in a free role running the show.
Looked far more like the Aston Villa Grealish than the one that Pep has turned him into. Problem for him is that he likely loses his place as soon as Bellingham is fit again.

When you think that we have the likes of Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Watkins, Reece James, Walker, Mainoo, Wharton etc who weren't out there tonight we have an embarrassment of talent if the manager can get them playing.

I think Trent has nailed down the RB spot though for the foreseeable, he was superb tonight.

And if I was England manager, no Palace player would play for England. End of. I don't think England would suffer too much from that rule, even if the reasoning can be challenged. Taking four Palace players to the Euros was four too many.

    Fishing for likes Muttley 😂
I feel physically sick when I hear the name Chelsea fc and was totally gutted when Palmer who was clearly a class young player went there but he has proven his ability even though last season has taken a lot out of him with his first season of playing every week.
I hope a massive offer comes in for him and he leaves the bridge.

The last Euro's and 4 palace players picked:
Eze had a poor cameo against Finland but he's a top player.
Marc Guéhi has been excellent for England since his debut.
Dean Henderson only made the squad because of Nick Pope not being available.
Adam Wharton was a totally left field selection ! and only happened as Grealish was struggling for game time and some off the pitch gossip/issues.
I haven't seen enough of Wharton to judge but Carsley brought back Grealish and no sign of Wharton.

Good right back for Arsenal but Ben White would rather jet off to the sun than be a reserve RB for England as he has TAA, James, and Walker (when not a RCB) etc in front of him.
He can't be guaranteed the RB spot so it's best he just tops up that tan on the international breaks.

What is the metric here? Because I’d be amazed if people have on average given Angel Gomes 3.30 out of 10 as a match rating considering how well he played, and the subsequent rave reviews he got.
  • edited September 13
Angel Gomes had a tidy performance which merited a 7 despite having an easy night along with the rest of the England players. A good link man performance but I would reserve judgement until he is closed down quicker than the Finn's managed to do.
Trent was given so much time to ping his passes he looked the world class passes of a ball that he is.
Pressure TAA and weaknesses can show up.

If Angel Gomes was given 3.30 average out of 10 it's a case of heightism.  Blessed are the short arses.
