Kanu has added so much to his game but seems to have temporarily lost his killer instinct. He had two glorious chances last night and spurned both. He's always primarily been a goalscorer so would love to see him find that again.5

I'd have him on the bench for sure though0 -
Kanu’s positive enterprise and skill laid a goal on a plate for Godden.
Suits me sir.7 -

Why cant we just stick the ball into the box for a player to thump in a header ala Arsenal against Spurs on Sunday. Haven't seen that in years.8 -

Just wondered, does anyone think that Taylor and Coventry could play in the same team...🙄5

Agree.
Kanu has scored a shedload of goals in every age group for CAFC since he was 9. Even last season he had 10 goal (4 at Southend)
I am/was one one the few who wanted Daniel at 19 to continue to learn under Nathan and the coach at CAFC and not go out on loan in 24/25 as I think he can score goals once the 1st one go in. Pleased he got an assist for Godden but will be even happier when he scores himself as he will continue to have opportunities.
Nathan Jones skill at motivation in this BSM Trophy is amazing. So many clubs treat it like a friendly.

This season we are 8th on the set piece xG table (2.43) but joint 14th for actual set piece goals scored. 5 teams have failed to score from set pieces so far and Blackpool have already scored 6. Rotherham have a set piece xG of 4.29 and have only scored 1 which is a poor conversion ratio.2 -

With all our options up front I think they’ll rotate and share the goals between them, if he got enough minutes I could see Kanu getting 10 or close to it. At the moment Jones has moved Campbell ahead of him, Leaburn’s returning and Dixon has added another option, so his game time might be limited.1 -

God forbid we try and keep the ball against pants teams instead of lumping it long or giving up the lions share of possession. I could understand the logic if we had a player in the middle who could drive the ball forwards or run past a man, but none of our midfielders are offering that currently. So it would be nice to see another midfielder who can dictate the pace a little. Yesterday felt like I wasn't looking up for a lot of the game and it would be nice to see that on Saturday as well.

I believe the reason Nathan Jones is so perky after that, is because if he has to drop anybody he can say to the player that he has other options justified in playing, because the talent and ability clearly doesn’t only rest with the current first eleven.
A stand our performer for me last night but then I've been one of his cheerleaders for several seasons.
Just need to offer him a contract he can't refuse before too many agents start turning up at matches....but guessing most are aware of his talent already.8 -

Admittedly the "hoof it to Ahadme" approach isn't 100% successful either but I don't think this is the answer.1 -

One reason we are poor here is defence playing too deep.0 -
Huge gamble for a league game so maybe worth saving it for another BSM tye but I wonder how Ahadme & Kanu would fair as a partnership? So much running, industry and physicality between them, surely defenders would hate that and they might even create more in-box opportunities for each other, as opposed to being focused on providing for a partner? Just a thought8

...the missing link, Bukayo Saka & Gabriel Dos Santos Magalhães...🙄7 -
I have no real objection to this tournament - it gave us the chance to run out some fringe players and gave them the chance to show what they can do. When some were happy about getting knocked out by Reading last season, for me it meant we lost some valuable game time for these guys.
The performance was overall good. The red card/penalty with Karoy was a not at all good, but lets keep our feet on the ground - he's still learning and probably told to give their players problems, which he failed to do. Apart from that, with a changed team, we looked much better than I expected, and 2-1 was a fair result, even though we could have scored a couple more.
All good from me.5 -

I think it is a good trophy if you can do what we did last night and make eleven changes. It is very useful for a manager to be abe to do this. aybe we incur a fine I don't know the details but it is a semi competetive match in which to give squad players game time. Not really much not to like about it. I don't care if we win it but a fair number of games where we don't feel forced to play first teamers has to be good.1

On the Charlton TV coverage there were problems with the sound. But not when it cut out obviously a signal problem but Tel’s commentary seemed ever so slightly ahead of play. Did anyone in Tenerife or other parts of the world notice it? It annoyed me so much that I switched over to Sky.
