Your recommendations for Indian restaurants in/near Eltham?

My sister thinks nowadays nothing in Eltham is all that. So we don’t mind somewhere nearbý, say 15 mins drive. A colleague in the charity shop she works in recommended Darjeeling in Sidcup, but my sister thinks that was more about some Monday price deal than quality.

So please bring on your current favourites. I thank you.

    Star of India
Agree with this. We live in Hither Green but often travel into Eltham to go here.
  • Maharani on Halfway St is also less than a mile from you and very nice when I’ve been
  • Star of India
I remember walking past that on the way to school 30 years ago. They've done well to survive this long.
  • The food in The Village Eat Inn on the high st is fantastic. It’s not the plushest restaurant though, more like a cafe with o levels.
  • Not been myself but Shampan at Falconwood is close to you and has a very good name
    Yes very nice

Ah so the Star is still good? Dunno whether my sister no longer likes it. Been there relatively recently and was good. I reckon its been there since at least 1980,!  Been to Shampan too but not for a few years.
  • I'd be interested in more views on the Darjeeling in Sidcup.

I've been several times to the one in Higher Green and that is excellent.
  • Mahatma “Very best curry and Tandoori” Avery Hill parade. Excellent price and bloody nice food,

More like 1970 if not before.

My last visit was just pre covid (Jan 20) and it was excellent then. I was in a group and we all remembered it from the seventies. The staff were interested in our reminiscences from the old days or pretended very well to be at least.
  • There are so many decent Indian restaurants around locally these days. Absolutely spoilt for choice
  • Certainly looks nice. Is it trying to be a step up on the usual?
  • Star of India, been using it for over fifty years, they tell me memories 😂
  • Taste of Raj in blackheath is lovely

    I’d say so.
I’ve been 20 or so times and always very good.
You can park for free in the car park on the other side of the road, diagonally opposite in the New Eltham direction.

  • Another shout for the Mahatma Coat, Avery Hill, good food at reasonable price

This - S3 on the green in Falconwood, you won’t be disappointed

Yeah Shampan is nice, we tend to get one from there when I stay at my brothers, and they've also got a place in Westerham which is nice, but it's just been bumped into 2nd place round here by our new one that's just opened bang next door to it, Indian Summer. That's well nice if you fancy a little drive out
  • Bengal Lancer in Chislehurst.
  • You’re only 10-15 mins’ drive from Mountain View on Trafalgar Road. Good food - Indian / Nepalese. Lovely owner called Rom. Occasional post match haunt of ours, as only a few mins’ walk from River Ale House.
  • Bengal Lancer in Chislehurst.
The GOAT and I cannot be convinced otherwise
  • Maharani on Halfway St is also less than a mile from you and very nice when I’ve been
Yep, very good. The only place I've ever seen Indian families eating in.
  • Not been myself but Shampan at Falconwood is close to you and has a very good name
But is the food any good?
  • Jasmine up bexleyheath is nice. Bloke that owns it is very friendly and they’ll usually give you free stuff to try that they are testing for their menu.
  • Standard affair: Bengal Lancer in Chislehurst
    Something different:
Indian Essence by Atul Kochhar in Petts wood, gets booked up well in advance though.
