Definitely the Cafe Eltham. I'm in there now and I confidently say after 12 years of eating there it is the best around. Have recently been in the Shampan, Cinnamon Culture, Indian Essence, Royal Parade indian, some I can't remember atm and Cafe Eltham in my opinion is still the favourite.1

So we went to the Star in the end. It was about 80% full most of the time we were there. Staff were efficient and pleasant. They had London Pride available. We thought the mains were pretty good, but lacking recent local experience I underestimated how hot the Fish Jalfrezi would be. I would say the chillies over-powered everything else. Sister had a dhansak, BIL a balti (wish I’d gone for that). Overall I’d hoped for something a bit more out of the ordinary in the mains menu. If Mr and Mrs @Baldybonce opened an Indian we’d be there in a heartbeat. But if you just want recipes you know, the Star does everything pretty well.
BTW, the menu card tells you it has been there since 1969, and that it offers “Bangladeshi and Indian food”.
Afterwards it was an easy hop to the Long Pond, Mike (@Riviera) was in running the show, so we had a good chat. He seems happy with how the pub is doing even though I was surprised how empty it was. He said Covid up-ended all the old patterns of going out and midweek 17-20h are now his busy times.0 -

Sorry but.... Mrs Baldy can only cook English food. Baldybonce towers in Pune has a cook .2 -
