Only time I went there was the famous 1-1 when there were multiple sendings off, penalties, and one of Leaburns emphatic headers - he seemed to score a few against Southend.
  • Leaburns goal a year later was incredible

Took him about 3 minutes to finish it

There was a 4-4 draw as well. Did Curbs get sent off in one of those as well?

Think that was in the 1-1, pretty sure Steve Gatting was the player who got a red for us.

I live near Southend (unfortunately) so looking forward to this one.
  • My first game there was in 1993. 3 red cards in that as well. 2 for us, 1 for them, lost 4-2.

Keith Jones, Jason Lee and Ricky Otto all scored against us.

Isn’t there one replay in the event of a draw.
There have been FA Cup replays in the competition so far this season.
Is the rule no replays from the first round?

Best game I remember against them was at Upton Park, we were both chasing the play-offs and we won 2-0. Towering header from Webbo and a close range volley by Leaburn IIRC. Southend had some good players then, not least Chris Powell at left back, sad they've gone downhill in recent times.

    Thanks.
It is a shame no replays though.

Can we take out a stalking order against Macauley Bonne?

Bonne is one thing, but it is also Nathan Jones against his old club.
    99 games and two goals.

I have only goodwill towards Southend United.
They are in a lot of ways like us in terms of frequent troubles with owners.
Maybe all the way back to Vic Jobson.
I have seen games between us and Southend many times, all usually eventful.
They are a proper club, with a proper place in the English football culture.
Of course I want us to win

Sounds about right for Bonne, but how did Jones get on?

Bonne hasn’t even featured in their last two league games or the cup game on Saturday.

Will lead to more upsets in theory. You have an off day as a favourite, you don’t get a second chance to put it right 10 days later.
  • Happy with that. Winnable, decent away trip which we'll probably sell out. They should also get a decent gate which will hopefully help them out. Should be a good game

We could easily have gone out to Cray Valley PM last year for example

Do we know when they'll announce the TV fixtures?

Which is just going to make it even more annoying when he scores

This is a great draw. Shame it'll probably be impossible to get a ticket for. My mates son plays for Southend so that makes it a bit more interesting too. We always seem to have very eventful games against them.

They probably pencilled in Brum and Wrexham before the draw was made.

They wouldn't be called Southend if they weren't

Dont you get about 25% of the capacity for Cup games? - Unless parts of Roots Hall have been closed?
