The North Stand will almost certainly be your area, and capacity is 800 max at the moment because the old girl that is Roots Hall is more than a bit crumbly. Our new consortium owners are working their nuts off to renovate the ground but I fear our cup game will be too early for North Stand improvements. I'm really hopeful that Mr Bonne will take his opportunity to shine for 90 minutes and show us that there is a good player in there just waiting his moment (you lot). We've had a lot of upheaval over the last few years and some big player departures and injuries have affected our 'very hard to beat' spirit of last season. Nevertheless, we'll turn up and give you a decent game hopefully without our keeper decking any of yours (that was a bit of a lively game, wasn't it). Please feel free to feel sorry for us and let us progress to round 2 as we need the dosh.
Obviously it's going to be a very hard game for Southend but 8k of Shrimpers will be giving it large in the hope that Mr Bonne does you yet again (I live in hope). I'm told we will know what the date will be on Friday, and tickets will go on sale shortly afterwards. Friday night under the lights would be my choice, always a great atmosphere.3 -
When I look back to that early 90 period when we used to play each other in the Championship, you had some cracking players then @Rootshallbloke
; Chris Powell, Ansah, Otto, Brett Angel, Spencer Prior, Dean Austin, Keith Jones, Collymore etc.7 -

My lad at 14 1/2 will be just shy age wise as I was that day when we go there in a few weeks. He’ll get a Fanta in a quiet friendly pub and then a Greggs if he’s lucky!4 -
It got the same treatment as the glasses…5

A bit further along from West Tap can try the Plough. If you want a bit of food pre match and coming on the train at Prittlewell could try Saxon King.

I'd recommend The Olde Trout Tavern, a few mins from Central Station. Real ale boozer.3

Oh for the days when The Nelson was open.0 - Sponsored links:

Could try Westcliff Drinks Co on Hamlet Court Road and walk from there. The Hamlet Court is ok as well.
I drink in Leigh on Sea, so bit far to make it for 3pm kick off…0 -

Would have thought Southend Charlton was a better pick than Northampton. Whilst a localish derby with Northampton at home there is less chance of a giant killing while us away at Southend could be, although hopefully not.2 -

If we only get the expected 800 tickets then there will definitely be priority sale categories.3 -
Chesham v Lincoln? I reckon that one went under everyone's radar ( including people in Chesham and Lincon
)

The Wrexham love in continues1

I get Birmingham and Wrexham are currently the new Salford, but a stark reminder of how far we’ve fallen that us v Southend is seen as less attractive to a TV audience than Northampton, Lincoln and Huddersfield5

Wrexham is the one that surprises me, because last season BBC Wales (S4C) simply streamed their games on BBC iPlayer with Welsh Commentary - I know its ITV showing them on this occasion, but could have opted to stream someone else, with Wrexham still getting shown on another channel.
Northampton vs Kettering a slight surprise given its League vs Non-League, but they showed with Charlton vs Cray Valley last season that they're moving away from that formula in certain cases, although I could have sworn Kettering were drawn as the home team.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if someone like ESPN+ choose to broadcast our match... as they did the Gillingham game0 -

If it is only to be 800 we need to know how to get a stream without Sky Television.0

To be fair they did have us v Cray last season when we were the home side and no one expected it though.1 -

Southend v Charlton would definitely attract more viewers than Chesham v Lincoln. Although i guess no matter who they show, a Monday night game on ITV4 isn't exactly going to bring the viewers flooding in.1 -

Chesham are more of a minnow and have their own mini celeb connection as Alex Horne is on the board there1
-
The vast majority of away travellers would prefer a Saturday afternoon kick off so it’s no loss not being picked on tv.
Away on a Monday night? No Saturday at 3pm will be just fine6 -
just hope we now don't get bumped to a Sunday slot for some overseas channel, like we had with Mansfield a few years ago.2
