I know some people get uptight when they hear someone say that The Championship is Charltons natural level but I think it is. We shouldn’t really ever be in League One and now that even in the second tier money is obscene it’s hard to see that we push past only ever flirting with promotion every now and then. Jones is perfect for us and although I don’t see us back in the top flight any time soon I do think he’ll establish us where we belong and give us a few thrills along the way. Just like everyone else my ambition for this season was survival and I think that’s been achieved. For next season it’s a season where we are not looking over our shoulder and establishing ourselves as a mid table side. Everything depends on this summers window though. We need quite a lot of change.
    Nailed it, 100% this.

We definately need to upgrade, assuming we stay up and Jones has said as much but the key difference between last summer and next is that we need evolution not revolution.
Defence and attack football operations needs evolution the midfield needs revolution

I think if Ipswich go up Clarke may be available. Chambers seems to me to be a young lad who is improving. Not there yet but improving is good. He might be stronger next season and maybe if Liverpool see development they might keep him with us. I would be looking at securing those two.

Chambers has 1 year left at Liverpool he’s promising but will never be a top prem Lb so they’d likely look to sell him on a permanent this summer to make some money

We need to get Lloyd Jones on a new contract then see what we have left to spend once that’s done

I think Chambers has a future but we need to be upgrading our current starters not just buying our current loan starters.

Edwards is our number one LWB, if Jones wants a different profile of LWB then fair enough but a 21 year old Chambers as a backup who is at this current level despite having a year long injury with decent time to improve as a player and physically you could do so much worse.

I don’t disagree but how much do you pay for a reserve lb?  Will Liverpool accept 500k
  • I still think wingbacks is our priority, especially the way NJ likes to set us up. Hard positions to fill and we struggled to recruit well there last summer because we couldn’t offer the wages and we were new to the league. If we stay up we might have more joy, the fact that we were never been in a relegation scrap might tempt better quality players to come to us.

Wonder if he's lost the dressing room again...
Players are potentially upset with how he's handled Kaminski maybe? ;)

Thought we looked fairly solid defensively until Jones made those changes. Think this one is on him today and I'm a big NJ fan

He properly got into it with a fan behind the bench again today, when Godden had just come on and flicked a header onto left wing, only to look around and see TC still 20 yards behind him on the touchline.

Reckon a fan said something about TC not running and NJ just started screaming at them

The brand of football is shocking but if he keeps us up he deserves huge plaudits.

Godden was offside ffs and TC was playing wing back so couldn’t have been 20 yards higher or he’d be miles out of position. Fans going at TC were as usual being idiots

Deserves all the plaudits if he keeps us up but I don't think he has what it takes to improve a team in this league.

He’s literally done it before? So how have you come to the conclusion that he doesn’t have what it takes?

I personally think the game (and this league) has moved on since then.

I’d say it’s become more physical which is his MO. He likes to play similarly to Eustace who took a relegation threatened team to Play Off contenders. The football may not be pretty but with the right personnel it can be effective

Goal was to stay up I’ll judge him end of the season if he’s achieved that or not. We need to learn how to score more than 1 goal a game but that needs to be next seasons and summer window priority just stay up

I just don’t get the tactics late on when we’re behind. We put everyone back at an opposition corner when we could leave TC or later Fullah up top for the break. Then we end up bunging on strikers galore and causing chaos in our own ranks instead of playing on with a bit of composures.

Why has this got 6 lols? I know it's been spoken by one of our resident pranksters but it's also completely correct

In what way? More possession based? Millwall and Wrexham are up there and aren’t known for playing attractive football.

Jones putting too much emphasis on set pieces and clean sheets? Coventry are top for both and Millwall are one of the teams up there.

Scoring more goals as said should be the priority for the summer, but for me is more about the signings we make than the coaching and tactics. Not saying those don’t play a part, but we need players with more ability on the ball, more pace and physicality, and ones who take and create more chances.

No manager is going to get a lot of goals from this squad. It’s like our defensive problems two years ago - we just don’t have enough players at the standard we need, a more attacking manager alone wouldn’t solve it.

I think the problem again is lack of wide players and cover for those we have. If TC isnt getting into a game or is knackered we bring on a striker, with Clarke out fevrier is playing the whole match.

Can have a whole team of strikers out thwre but someone has to get the ball to them and then they have to not get in each other's way

It's hard to make that call when we are watching a team with the 2nd lowest budget in the league.

I’d say what budget there was last summer has not been spent well. That’s not all on Jones, but the more successful January window hopefully shows that something(s) have changed around how we approach recruitment.

Because he’s proven he can get us promoted from L1 before and this season if we were to get relegated it’s not like he’s massively underperformed when you take into account our budget.
