MATCH THREAD ; Exeter City V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 9th November 2024 : KO 15:00

Good afternoon everybody and welcome to another Match Day...

Today we travel west to St James Park for a potentially tricky encounter with Exeter City who  currently sit 11th in the League One rankings, one place above us, separated by goal difference ahead of todays encounter...

We've met on 36 previous occasions  winning 18, the Grecians 11 and the remaining seven meetings resulting in draws, our last visit to St James Park saw the spoils shared as an 87th-minute own goal from Cheick Diabate cancelled out former Addick Ben Purrington's early opener.

In Thursday's press conference, Nathan Jones explained that Kayne Ramsay, Tennai Watson, Lloyd Jones, Dan Potts, Chuks Aneke, Daniel Kanu and Tyreece Campbell remain sidelined through injury, all will be sadly missed today...

The Addicks will be wearing their yellow away kit today, no doubt cheered on by the ever reliable travelling Addicks, and hopefully will be cheered back on the journey home with three points on the board to accompany them...

Team news...

Ashley Maynard-Brewer will make his first league start of the season, while skipper Greg Docherty returns to the starting line-up, Will Mannion misses out with a minor injury while Luke Berry moves to the bench as Nathan Jones makes two changes for the game.

It means the Addicks are expected to once again start in the same formation with Zach Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Macaulay Gillesphey and Josh Edwards making up the back four in front of Maynard-Brewer.

Conor Coventry, Terry Taylor, Docherty and Allan Campbell make up the midfield four, behind a front two of Miles Leaburn and Matty Godden.

Berry is joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Thierry Small, Tayo Edun, Danny Hylton and last weekend’s match-winner Gassan Ahadme.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Z.Mitchell, A.Mitchell, Gillesphey, Edwards; Coventry, Taylor, Docherty (c), A.Campbell; Leaburn, Godden

Subs: Reid, Edmonds-Green, Small, Edun, Berry, Ahadme, Hylton

  • I arrive in this thread, in hope rather than anticipation.

NJ has had weeks now to get a cohesive performance out of these League One cloggers, with no evidence forthcoming, depleted of our better players on indeterminate timescales for recovery.

    It's grey, cold and damp.

    Great to be here!
    1-1
  • Thats a very combative midfield but basically no width
  • FFS... Now whats happened to Mannion for him to be completely absent.

This is getting ridiculous if he's injured as well now?
Minor injury... that weakens our defence..
  • FFS - How is Mannion now injured, this is ridiculous now... as whatever we try, we always end up with these injuries which just cripple the squad.

We seem to try everything to avoid them - We're just completely cursed
Eight injured. How many other clubs in the EFL have eight injured right now?
  • What is the team line up today?

  • Ah, added to first post.
  • Man alive the lack of any creativity in that team is something else. Hope I'm wrong but already feeling sorry for those that have made the trip down there.

Minor injury for Mannion probably means a month out knowing our lot.
No creativity on the bench either. The only way we can create anything in this system is winning the ball on the press, hence why we looked good against a Birmingham side that passed it around a lot. All Exeter need to do is let us have the ball, watch us do nothing with it and counter.

Worth remembering that Sandgaard got those machines which helped to try and combat hamstring injuries early, if we've still got them

We got Will Abbott in from a Premier League outfit.

Its almost like the Footballing Gods are sniggering behind their backs at us.

"Oh look they're trying to combat that type of injury" - Lets do this instead so they're still utterly unprepared!!

At least we are top of the league of most injured...🤦‍♂️
  • Will Mannion out with a minor injury.

No doubt won't play for the rest of the season.
  • Just hope we don’t give many free kicks and corners away

  • It's almost startling how average our team is.
  • No Anderson or Dixon in the squad wonder if both have gone to Jamaica early
  • Anderson missing from the bench as well but not shown as injured. Given he was a go to player in September it seems strange he is not on the bench if fit.

Would prefer Dixon ahead of Hylton. No real flair or excitement on the bench.
Can only assume that from what Dixon has shown in training, he's nowhere  near ready.

Makes me laugh how sure some were on here that Hylton would play no minutes. He's so shit and unfit it's an embarrassment when he gets on the pitch.
  • Complete lack of creativity in that squad. Not entirely sure why we need Hylton and Ahadme on the bench. Would rather have Dixon or even Rylah to at least offer some pace.
  • No Anderson or Dixon in the squad wonder if both have gone to Jamaica early
Louis Mendez has confirmed Dixon travelled, but was left out.

    Dixon is at Exeter

Given that for the last 4/5 weeks Anderson's sole "job" seems to have been to runaround like a headless chicken and pass the ball to the opposition, I can't say that I am too disappointed that he is missing.
