That’s that’s why I wish I were going. I need an injection of CAFC positivity from somewhere 😩😩😩
Sadly (and seperate to tonight’s thing), I feel like I’ve maxed out going to the nostalgia well tbh. Doesn’t bring me much pleasure looking back anymore as I feel I / we’ve looked back so many times now due to the dearth of anything decent since.
Hope everyone who goes tonight has a nice evening and in a better head space than me!
Deano is very funny and unusually for a footballer has a very good memory for his games and his penalty saves.
Browny is articulate and funny too.
Too much to remember on the good old days but we got the Keane at the World Cup story and the Andy Todd incident plus the non-injury V Leicester including the "fine" he got from Peter Varney for loss of sales in the club shop.
We did talk about the current team and general situation. Steve is positive about the US owners but feels things will have to change elsewhere in the club if results continue as they are.
Deano was asked if he had any keepers we could use and he said he did but if you knock on the door and no one answers what can he do?
More than covered our costs with the whip round so thanks to all who came along (about 50 or 55).
Steve spoke very well about the ex-players association and wanting to create a "hardship" fund for players or families having a hard time.
Dean isn't a fan of Harry Rednapp.
Some absolute horrendous stories given, by Brownie re families just after a bit of respite from dementia, from ex players that have it, really hope this initiative gets traction, and takes off.
Great evening, well done the committee. Steve & Dean were very entertaining & good to see Peter Varney there . Think I left my red scarf there, if anyone finds it.

When Deano goes out on the pitch pre-game at Selhurst he asks the grounds staff why there isn't a blue plaque on the post saving "Dean Kiely saved Andy Johnson's penalty here". He then reminds them that Dennis scored at the other end.
As someone at the meeting reminded us all, that was exactly 20 years ago yesterday.

Money was tight at the time, as I had 2 young kids.
I was at the match and remember at the time being really angry that Palace charged us £31 for a game that was live on Sky.
But £31 for a priceless memory, seems a small price to pay.
I can remember a beaming Chris Powell who was in the Sky studio, doing analysis, his face lighting up, when the fans saw him, and started chanting his name.

Only sold about 1800 tickets if I recall correctly, think there was some sort of half-hearted boycott because of the ticket price. I was also hard up at the time, never crossed my mind to miss it though, a day and a moment I'll never forget.
Remember Chris Powell in the Sky studio, in the corner to our left. Just before we scored, they announced on the tannoy that we'd be kept in after the game "for our own safety". Did us a favour, we had longer to celebrate with SCP.

It wasn't mentioned , I am one of those who remember Matt Tees, who died of dementia. He was a prolific header of the ball and the spearhead of our attack- sorry abit vague on dates but say late 60's early 70's. Playing football and heading the ball as much as he did resulted in in many lost years of meaningful life. And at the meeting you had Steve Brown who has 2 major knee ops- a youngster for such ops. All for our entertainment.

Really wish I could be there.
Shame the fan base is on a big downer right now, understandably, but at least we can wallow in nostalgia and hear some good stories.

Does that help? 😉
We'll have the upstairs bar open too

Kiely & Brown were excellent guests.
Deano had an unbelievable memory for all things.
Both intelligent, articulate & interesting men.
