Going back many a day, early one Sunday morning I was driving along Kings Road and pulled up at a set of lights near Chelsea Bridge.soapboxsam said:iaitch said:

And Finally.
"Tiddles the cat was rescued from a high tree from its owners garden and the Women was so grateful she made the whole crew a cups of tea and chocolate biscuits. Unfortunately the fire engine ran over the cat on the way out."
I swear Reginald Bosanquet had a Cheshire cat grin on his face after reading that 😁
Reggie was an alcoholic and died from Pancreatic cancer at the early age of 51. You can be tea total and get this shocking disease but vast amount of Alcohol will increase your odds; that's if your liver isn't screwed first. George Best abused two Livers and his immune system packed up as he was drinking and not eating and checked out at 59.
Bosanquet was famous in his time and TBF was a good Journalist who spoke his mind telling Anna Ford that women shouldn't read the news on her first day.
He changed his mind later and Ford said they played darts before reading the news and got on fine.
I casually looked over to my right and there was Reggie Bosanquet in a red velvet dressing gown, bedroom slippers and Sky blue pyjamas, carrying a bundle of Sunday papers under his arm, a bit bizarre I thought but at the same time I thought good on you fella and why not, he obviously didn’t give a toss.
Only popped out for a minute to get his Sunday reading material. 🤭3 -
I actually prefer older TV series. Rarely watch new stuff anymore. I think the reason is I'm nostalgic for a time when I was young and felt protected. I remember these shows bringing me and my family together.5

Jason King I'm watching now though it was called Department S hasn't aged well, and wooden acting.0

often thought about trying to revisit This Life. Loved that in the mid 90’s but worried it won’t stand up3

My Dad knew the Varney family. Strangely one of Reg's brothers was called Stan. (He was supposedly much funnier than Reg but wasn't in the business.)Hal1x said:

For me OFAH is the best sitcom ever made. The longevity and ability to make you laugh or cry in an instant is unprecedented.LargeAddick said:
Some stand the test of time, some don’t. Only Fools is as funny now as it ever was for example.LenGlover said:A lot of programmes are of their time rather than timeless and need to be viewed with that thought in mind.
We as viewers have changed as well in the intervening period which can also affect attitudes towards the programme.
I know it word for word... a simple screenshot or audio/text and I'll give you the episode title.

No accounting for taste, of course, but it should be obvious to anyone, that these are 2 of the greatest British sitcoms of all time.4 -
The place they live in is on Southwark Bridge Road, in the series they got the place as it was a bargain. Those young aspiring solicitors clubbing together to live in a 6 bed townhouse on Southwark Bridge Road! Its insane as a snapshot of how much London has changed.MrOneLung said:often thought about trying to revisit This Life. Loved that in the mid 90’s but worried it won’t stand up
The soundtrack is flawless, I later found out that was curated by none other than Ricky Gervais. Its also a whose who for some class actors, from Jack Davenport to Tony Curran, Steve John Shepherd, Amita Dhiri, Ramon Tikram then none other than Rick Grimes himself a nerdy mancunian Andrew Lincoln. I remember watching it in my last year at school and was fixated by it, the age the characters were and thinking "is that the sort of thing I should be doing in a couple of years?!!?!" They all seemed to be skint yet doing an allegedly really well paid job what chance did I have!2 -

Pipkins was one of my favourites as a child but looking back at how Hartley Hare looked, he wouldn’t look out of place as a toy that came to life at night to commit mass murders in a low budget 1970s horror film.6

Been re-watching Dalziel and Pascoe on i-player. Stands up pretty well. Also Jeeves & Wooster on YouTube, the lack of incidental music is something that dates it, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread, being a period piece it's still okay.
A few years back we watched the Adam Dalgliesh stories with Roy Marsden as the title character. Again incidental music was non-existant, they were rather slow, and as they were made by Anglia TV, a bit less dynamic than the Sweeney... One episode did feature both Lennard Pearce and Buster Merryfield, which was almost certainly the only time the two appeared in the same production.0 -

Benny Hill hasn’t dated well although some of his verbal comedy is still funny .1
