Our first house was in Crayford - when the kids were little, Saturday mornings it was free entry - bar opened early doors - only did low bets on the Tote - my son’s strategy - bet on first dog to poo on parade pre race - surprisingly successful 😃
And sod off anyone coming on here and giving it the negative about Greyhound racing - down at the traps and listening to them anticipating the race - they love it - in their genes
Fantastic to watch, so fast and graceful
Sod off to you giving it large. In their genes my arse.
Shut up you bellend - research Greyhounds - you are the one talking out of your arse
You tell him Flash, I agree with you if i want to race my dog, train them to fight other dogs or take them badger baiting I will !!! I'm only encouraging what's in their genes.

Up yours twat. You'll just believe whatever supports your habit, with the support of your usual little friends.
I do tend to agree, maybe i wouldn't be so aggressive with it initially but I do agree that the sport can/has been proven to be cruel. Of course running fast and chasing things is in a greyhounds genes but thats not where the cruelty lays, its in the elements surrounding the sport and how the animals are treated and the number of animals put to death purely because they arent viable winners or money makers - for all those saying do your research how about maybe doing some yourself about the sport and not the animals ?

Though id throw a quick addendum - Obviously I don't want to do so and perhaps my sarcasm didnt come across, my point is that to a certain degree fighting other dogs is within their genes when conflict naturally occurs, just because thats true doesnt excuse the cruelty of dog fighting as a sport
My mate had a couple of ex racing greyhounds and they were the laziest dogs I have ever seen. 30 minutes walk/run in the morning, 30 minutes walk/run in the evening and 23 hours in their blankets somewhere warm indoors. But of course not all ex racers go to good homes.

My family's (currently racing) greyhound lives in kennels down near Hove, where he's based, and he receives regular sports massages, sleeps on a memory foam bed and is fed a fully rounded nutritional meal based on his body, age weight etc. that's been developed by a veterinary nutritionist. He runs in open races most of the time and believe me when I say he, and all their dogs, are treated like supreme athletes by all trainers and handlers. If a dog isn't quick enough or gets an injury, they are rehomed and usually then still brought along to the kennels to be used as stooge dogs and the like, and you should see how excited they get when they're taken out for a run, especially if the lures are out.
Is every trainer like that? No, but that happens in all walks of life, some trainers/coaches in football rule with an iron fist and some with a silk glove

Even minus the sarcasm, comparing a dog running (natural) and a dog ripping the shit out of another dog (extreme trained) is mad.

I'll assume you are being genuine and not being deliberately obtuse, its not mad at all. As said I have no problem accepting that greyhounds have a natural ability and enjoy running fast etc, that said the training culture is also extremely cruel and the sport around is tainted by it. I am making a comparison to one sport pushing a dogs natural inclination for running to an extreme with another "sport" (Illegal of course) pushing another dogs natural inclination for conflict to an extreme.
People can pretend not to understand if they wish, but ultimately dogs die because of greyhound racing and people accept it but they cry cruelty when its done in dog fighting because they dont enjoy it.
as for research below are a couple resources about the cruelty -

I'm glad you look after your animals but the research shows a significant amount don't, linked lots of research in other reply

Absolutely no question there are arseholes involved in the sport, just like horse racing. My point was simply that 'in the genes' for Greyhounds running is fair, blood fighting is not.

but if two dogs encounter each other in the wild and are vying for an Alpha status it would naturally boil down to a bloody encounter because that ability is built in them/some dogs through years of evolution but we don't encourage it or monetizebecause of the civilized nature of our society, how is that not fair ?
Studies have also shown that dogs arent designed for running at high speeds on oval tracks so the idea of in their genes doesn't make sense (link below), as with dog fighting one can say conflict and fighting is in their genes but to have their aggression artificially increased and stimulated isn't much like running on an oval track after rigorous training and on demand isn't
Look I'm no saint either and I'm not saying if you enjoy it your actually a bad person, I used to enjoy it too and went Crayford a few times but when you do your research with an open mind its pretty indefensible

All dogs are bred for whatever purpose we give them. There wouldn't be any dogs for racing, fighting, hunting, herding, barking, shitting, pampering and cooed over by the vast majority of people in this dog obsessed country if it wasn't for humans.
Of course that then means we have the responsibility to make sure we look after them.
Literally a case of “what ya coulda had” it’s just a “I was there on the last wkend moment” if it had been like that most of the time it might have stayed…goodbye to the days/nights at Crayford, speedway, banger racing, dog track consigned to the history books

really? Somebody needs to tell my neighbour who has a banger racing car that he does up (to my annoyance) from his garage. Plus I have been to banger racing several times over the last few years.

Nah, he would be 30 minutes walk/run in the morning, 30 minutes walk/run in the evening, 4 hrs studying away attendances, 2 hrs eating chocolate, 4 hrs on the khasi and 13 hours in their blankets

I was talking about Crayford stadium, as the old stadium where banger racing and speedway also took place closed in the 80s, when it was replaced by the greyhound only stadium (and Sainsbury's).

most of the cars they used in banger racing are now going for big wedge on Bangers and Cash.
