Bromley would be a good shout for Dixon maybe, if we loan him out. Or a non league team so we can recall him if he's shithot
Bromley (or any club) would have to really need him. No point him going there and getting 5 mins here and there. Send him to Hendon....we've just lost our 15 goal left winger and I have no doubt Dixon would get masses of game time.
Dixon is still probably settling into the UK. Training with the first team and playing for the U21 will be much better for his development than shipping him out to non-league. He isn’t physically ready for it yet
You say that, but he is pretty much walking that league with his goals.
He is 20, so still has time to develop. Only thing is he is competing with academy players such as Kanu.
So it would be only logical to go on loan to somewhere like Welling. Local, but gives him experience for a league in the lower tiers.
We brought him for the future not the present.
I think next year that could be an option. The club will obviously know better than us where he is at, but I’d think there would be a risk of him being bullied in non-league and losing confidence. Its probably already been quite a daunting experience for him moving across the world at a young age, putting him in a non-league dressing room where he knows no one before he’s probably fully settled in the UK could be quite a risk.
I think I’d keep him around the first team and playing for the 21s this season, with a full pre-season this summer to get him ready for league football. He could then go straight into our squad though, as Scoham says he might not need a loan if he is really that talented but I think this next pre-season will be the one that gets him ready
Let’s see how he gets on in the Annual pre-season Welling kick about then.
Why so impatient? As Scoham said, he might not need the loan at all. He may appear before the end of the season in the league for all we know.
I trust the coaches and staff that have been handling young pros development for years to get this right.
When was the last time we sent a promising young kid with first team appearances to Welling?

I meant like Welling, or maybe league two. He seems too good for the un 21 and we are out of (most of) the cups. Maybe I misjudged the room when suggesting loaning him out for the final half of the season.
Look if we are honest we have just won 2 games, going for a play off push, and expectations are high. I would be worried about putting that pressure on him (plus Kanu is pushing up through the team as well and has scored a goal this season) while he is still developing.
If we are writing off this season then 🤷🏻 I retract what I said before.
I don't mean to discredit our development team with that comment (though I would defend the fact Danny Hylton is a player/coach and don't like comments that say Hylton should go)
Maybe a loan would be best, none of us really know how he’s settling, how he’s looking in training etc.
You say it’s only logical that a loan is the next step but there’s no guarantees he plays even if he did go on loan to L2 - look at Zach Mitchell last season at Colchester.
Attacking players often thrive off confidence so what’s the problem with having him banging them in regularly for the U21s and slowly integrate him into our first team?
I am one who is very mindful of the route forward for our academy products. If the right loan out can be sorted for a player not quite ready yet, but is still a good prospect then fair enough. It certainly helped with Scott Parker and Karlan Grant. However a curious factor is to what extent Parker or Grant or whoever would be getting in the way of a player at that club. Turn that around and consider loans in. To my mind they have to be obviously and significantly better than the players we already have here, including and especially those in the academy. I mean Fiorini as a recent example, or Lua Lua another, simply took the place of better players we already had at the club This business of only getting a loan if you guarantee minutes to the parent club is one I don't like at all. Maybe that is de rigueur these days and it is something Nathan Jones doesn't like. I frequently find myself returning to the question of why have an academy if it isn't to produce players for us?

I mean there were 3 academy players starting yesterday and another on the bench so I don't think it's a case of not producing the players. The route is still there to make it into the squad.
Kids had enough change as it is, moved from Jamaica less than 6 months ago and is getting used to a more professional environment. Even a local loan would confuse him as Welling/Dartford would be a totally different beast

Agree, can’t see getting kicked about by a 35 year old non league journeyman doing him any favours. I think the U21s is the best place for him at the minute.
Never in a million years is someone on the fringes of a premier league first team gonna join a failing bask case of a club in league 1. (never-mind a club 4 points off the playoffs)
You still have the Championship clubs in-between that as well

IF they loan out they will want him playing a part of every game. That condition may rule a lot of clubs out. .
I had a ramble about it on the Charlton podcast, Charlton Chronicles, the one thing I don't want to see is us signing championship players. Unless it's a loan who is hungry to break into the team to be acknowledged by his parent club.
Whenever we sign these championship rejects, they usually fail to deliver. All our best business in league1 recently, has mainly been picking up standout players for a cheap fee from clubs around us or below.
Alfie May, CBT, the snake, Lloyd Jones, Ricky Holmes, Dobson.
I don't know what these scouts and recruitment specialists are paid to do, but I question their experience and football knowledge. Cause if we have one of the highest budgets in the league, and we can't identify the best players in this league then we have some serious issues.
Far too much cash splunked on has beens and players who don't have the character to play for this club.
Anyone (who are non Charlton), who's contract expires in the summer, you'll take?
Don't know a lot about him but Dan Crowley at Notts County is out of contract in the summer, is an attacking midfielder, should be in his prime at 27, has played a number of games this season (although just returned from a short injury), has decent L2 numbers so I guess is worth a look.
Nathan Baxter at Bolton is a London lad and a decent keeper so maybe we could tempt him back closer to home..
Stephen Humphreys was only given a year at Barnet in the summer, no chance of getting him in Jan and prob an extension option I would imagine but he is one that would have improved our team this season for definite.
Stephen Sessignon would be a good stand in for Ramsey when he is injured, better than Watson for sure.
Tyler Bindon at Reading looks the stand out to me but will go to much higher things. Likewise Chelsea's Harvey Vale did very well at this level last season but will likely stay at Chelsea or move somewhere higher than us.

All the signings you’ve listed were summer signings, in most cases free transfers.
January is not the time to sign the best players in League One. Mainly, because clubs do not want to sell their best players to League rivals mid season.
Also, while you mention the ones the league one signings that have worked out, there have been plenty that have not.
Think DJ, Kirk, Sean Clare all cost fees from fellow League One clubs.
I don’t care what league a player comes from at this point, former Championship players, former league one and former league two signings have all not worked out at times.
We should be aiming for Conor Coventry/Kayne Ramsay types, between 22 and 24. Doesn’t matter what league they are from, but they are more likely to be from above or below rather than fellow League One clubs as listed above.

Out of those 3 though, Kirk was the only one who truly looked to work out. He had interest from I think Stoke, Sheffield United and a few others. It can be hit and miss.
The real consistent formula is when we sign players from the championship, and they come with a review of "should do a job in that league" it's very rare they do.

Baxter and Crowley are good shouts. Both from excellent academies at youth level, and have matured into good players in their league. Crowley is one of the best players in league2 I'd say.
I know people aren't a fan of individual stats, but he has a pass accuracy of 92% and has 9 G/A in 15 games. I think he would be a brilliant signing for any team in this league and would add something.
Crowley, Aasgaard, Joel Randall would be the 3 I'd really like to see us sign. Aasgaard and Randall would of course both cost fees.
Another I would like to think we have an eye on is Ricky-Jade Jones of Peterborough. Only 22, he's absolutely rapid and out of contract this summer. Is nowhere near the finished article, and needs serious work on his finishing, but a player that could really develop. Quite out of favour in Peterborough atm, and may fancy a change of scenery.

Good money was spent on DJ, so I think it was expected he would work out. The Kirk link with Stoke and Sheff Utd came from Alan Nixon, so I would take that with a large pinch of salt.
Recruitment is not an exact science, but to just write off signing championship players (especially in the January window) is a bit foolish.

Sorry for a post with no rumours again.
He’s played 80% of minutes and started the last 17 games for them.
So don’t think he’s out of favour.
Peterborough have very poor this season (another reason why this league is tougher than many think), so maybe they may look to make some changes in January. However I doubt he would come cheap and I don’t feel he is the answer to what we need at the moment.
Maybe something to revisit at the end of the season though.

The money was spent because we missed out on other targets and Sandgaard wanted a marquee type of signing from what I understand? He didn't come with the same expectations as Charlie Kirk did. Kirk would have had championship interest just like any other player who is performing at a high level in league 1 will. DJ seemed much more of a punt.
It's not foolish, it's very rare it works and we have wasted hundreds of thousands on has beens from that league.
If we sign a top performer from that league, it's different, but it's also completely unrealistic. Any championship side willing to let a player drop down a level, unless it for development purposes, is doing so for a reason. They're either crocked, washed or completely underperforming. It's very rare a player will change their trajectory like a Kermorgant.
We need players who are hungry and performing now, not players living off of past success.
