A lot of the signings that have failed, and been impressive signings for the fans.. Just haven't worked out! Freddie for me was the biggest disappointment, and he was someone the club chased for 2 years!Callumcafc said:The whole point of a recruitment department is that you pay them to find the underperforming and thus undervalued talents who can be molded into something better for the benefit of the club. You pair them up with solid pros like Lloyd Jones, Greg Docherty and Matty Godden on the pitch to get the best out of them.
Otherwise we might as well let the fans vote on our next signings and end up with more Scott Frasers, Charlie Kirks and Freddie Ladapos.1 -
I really hope we find a place for Taylor. Imo, he’s one of our best players when played correctly in the right system.22

Did they ever get it? Derby went into administration after paying about £2m and Arsenal had to defer instalments. I know the rule in the football world is that all football debts have to be paid in full (while other creditors are lucky to get pennies in the pound), so I assume they did eventually but can’t confirm.Ferryman said:
Paid off for them too after they then sold him for £9M.Richard J said:
Ironically the year before we took Bielik he had a loan spell at Walsall where he didn't play because he was permanently injured. I was reliably informed by Ketts who wrote Dr Kish that Arsenal allowed him to come to us completely free of charge because he needed to prove fitness. In that case it was a gamble which paid offThe Red Robin said:I’d like us to make use of the loan market wisely instead of the injured players we’ve had the last few years. They can be the difference. Find another Cullen or Bielik.0 -
The problem is our recruitment department keeps coming up with too many duds like the ones you have mentioned but there are many, many others over the tenure of the current incumbents. Of course you can’t get it right all the time but our recent success rate is very low.Callumcafc said:The whole point of a recruitment department is that you pay them to find the underperforming and thus undervalued talents who can be molded into something better for the benefit of the club. Unfortunately, Scott is still there f@&£ing it up with his Mediocre signings - Until he’s gone, I can’t see us signing decent players. I wonder if he was behind the gassan signing?RonnieMoore said:
CM has said it and Jones has said it that was one of the main points he wanted before he joined hence the manager title and not head coachSouthLincsAddick said:

Just the kind of striker Scott loves. From the Championship - tick, scored very few goals -tick, overrated and overpriced - tick. Has such little ball control he barely looks like a park footballer, let alone a pro - tick. Imagine him and Ahadme up front to together, go Scott!1 -
In these matters you usually have a buyer and a seller.
I believe there is an issue when the buyer is too weak/stupid/arrogant/ignorant/careless/deluded or bribed to resist the sales pitch.

He’s not better than Coventry though. I’d like us to keep him, but if we need to sell players to buy players, he might be one of the few players good enough to get some interest that don’t get in our first choice 11Danny Addick said:I really hope we find a place for Taylor. If selling Taylor means we can then add the 2 or 3 players we want then it might make sense2 -
If we lose Jones to Wycombe it will be a new low for me. I don't have any info on this btw just reading press32

Still don't know why we aren't raiding Reading. Wing, Smith, Knibbs & Bindon all quality and must be cheaper than some other options due to the state Reading are in. It's sad their situation but it didn't stop clubs from taking players from us in a similar situation.15
-
Hopefully we are trying, the owner will only sell players when they run out of the Olise cash unfortunately0

Those players have to want to sign for us for it to happen. Expect a few will be waiting on championship moves, especially now that Selles is at HullPelling1993 said:Still don't know why we aren't raiding Reading. Hopefully the owners show a bit of intent this window, keeping our best players and adding a bit of quality to the squad.14

Wasn't Sam Smith very close to signing but Reading had their embargo lifted and nipped in ahead of us?10
-
Player I would like to see us go after is Nathan Lowe, on loan at Walsall from Stoke. Big power and strong forward. Knows where the goal is. That would show great intent.2

An new Lowe for the club?DubaiCAFC said:Player I would like to see us go after is Nathan Lowe, on loan at Walsall from Stoke. Big power and strong forward. Knows where the goal is. That would show great intent.19 -
I know someone like Smith isn't really needed because we've got plenty of strikers but adding him and Lewis Wing would be statements. Smith and Leaburn would be up there for best strike partnerships in the league and Wing would add goals and creativity from Midfield.
(Bindon I think is out of reach , will go to a champ club)0 -
Also missed a sitter yesterday, I believe but it's Bogle!MintoHumbugs said:Omar Bogle scored for Crewe yesterday.
Thats 3 already this season and we are only in January.Good to see he hasn’t lost it.2 -
We seem to have big problems in identifying attacking players - other than May (who clearly didn't need identifying), what other player - midfield, winger or striker - has been a success in the last say 5 years? Our season has been transformed by dropping our 2 most recent forward signings for 2 academy players - i know that these players tend to be the most sought after / cost the most - maybe loans from the prem clubs - like rak saki - is the only way to get the game changers and if we don't do that, we're stuffed?0
-
100% but I just hope we are trying. Bindon & Knibbs will probably have champ interest but I think Smith & Wing are viable. Offer them more money & job securityNabySarr said:

Even if we don't sign anyone from Reading, we need to destabilize them before tomorrow's game. Offer all those 4 players massive contracts to unsettle them, so they don't play tomorrow...Pelling1993 said:Still don't know why we aren't raiding Reading. If we sell Jones, then I suspect it'll be CM trying to prove to the US owners he can bring money in!
I would also suggest that the backlash against the SMT would be vociferous at the very least and more fans will vote with their feet!
CM is a 100 mph prat and it's the sort of stupid stunt he'd pull just to save his own skin.
Jones is by a very large margin the best defender we have, in fact I'd suggest one of the best players we have at the club!
Moving Jones on, no matter how much we're offered, will put pay to any chance, however remote, we have of making the play-offs, sadly CM and Scott are short-sighted enough to make such a stupid decision!
I can only hope Gavin Carter reads this and other SM to realise the damage it would do.
I want to see the US owners building a competitive squad, not allowing CM and Co. to make a few bob!7 -
Raiding Reading won’t be as easy at it seems. They are under an embargo and the squad is thin enough as it is so they would be left with just an academy team in effect. They need money yes but they can’t just sell everyone0
-
And whether Jones wants to stay or not has no bearing on anything?Redmidland said:If we sell Jones, then I suspect it'll be CM trying to prove to the US owners he can bring money in!

Embargoed clubs are allowed to “staff up (to maintain 23 players of professional standing)”. They can’t pay fees, but can take in players on loan or free agents.fenaddick said:Raiding Reading won’t be as easy at it seems. I agree although by league 1 standards we already have a big squad so some will have to go to bring a couple in.Redhenry said:Hopefully the owners show a bit of intent this window, keeping our best players and adding a bit of quality to the squad.
I’ve mentioned before, the current owners have brought in higher league players and only sold two players of note May and CBT and they wanted out. Until proven otherwise they have my backing.6 -
No one knows what Jones wants, but the club have a decision to make, a big one and I don't trust CM and Co.drawnablank said:

They can hold on to Jones until the end of his contract in the hope he can help get us promoted. If he does, and can, he might decide to stay with us and sign a new contract in the summer as he would be playing Championship football. If we don't get promoted he could move on for free, but we're not going to get a fortune for him now due to his contract running out, so why not take the chance?
However, I fear CM will look to make a small but quick buck....its in his 'make-up'.
All we, as a club, would be doing is asking Jones to give us 6 months and then allowed to move for free, if we don't go up.0 -
Sure but they still need permission from the EFL, it’s what held up Chem Campbell for them in the summer and Gilbey and Washington for us a few years backTelMc32 said:
