Muthusamy or Kuhnemann would be huge statements of intent from Kent. Top quality international spinners that I guess would be available for a good chunk of the season in all formats.
I’d rather a dangerous and durable seam bowler that’s available for the whole season
One that lasts more than 1 game before going home injured?

With the international calendar, as it is, it is very hard to get an overseas for the duration which, hopefully, means we are lucky to have Dudgeon for the season. Even if we were to get either of those spinners then we might have an overseas seamer for the balance of the period especially as It would be pointless getting Kuhnemann over for April given he isn't a batsman and will hardly bowl a ball in the prevalent conditions.

Ben Dawkins has been playing for England U19 in the West Indies in an ODI series - his scores, in chronological order, opening the batting, have been 19, 0, 41, 78 & 97 (yesterday off 100 balls).

Apart from the quacker ( or as some might say, the Zacker ) he's been clearly improving match by match.

I'll take that as a very positive sign for the summer.

How much has he played in the last few years? A good option when fit but that seems to be few and far between. Can't imagine he'll make. A major dent in the budget though

Wasn't expecting a 2 year deal, with his recent fitness record. I'd be surprised if he was flooded with other offers from elsewhere.

So, of last season's cohort, that leaves the futures of Crawley (and that probably won't be announced either way 'til the New Year given where he is right now), Billings, Cohen and Klaassen to be confirmed. All are still on site in our list of players so one suspects that, on the right terms for all parties, they will agree new contracts.

  • What a terrible decision that is from the club, utter disbelief he has got two years. Would love to know the reasoning behind that

    Good bowler when fit...
  • Is he though ? Just one of the many players we seem to hang onto for years and years, taking up a wage.

We all talk about a clear out of deadwood and this is the exact deadwood we all talk about, we now had the chance to get rid of him and we don’t.

Confused why nothing has been said about Billings. The wording of his contract said it was until at least the end of the 2025 season, so I assume there is an extension clause.

Klaassen seems to be going backwards, while Cohen has barely played for us.

Quinn has taken 79 wickets at 28.38 in the CC since he joined us in 2021 with an E/R of under 3.0 so those stats do stand up to scrutiny. Injury has been his biggest issue as we know.

However, the devil is in the detail of his role though. As mentioned on the website, Quinn has been working with the county age group seamers and will take on the role of mentor in that respect and when playing in the 2s too (to the likes of Ekansh, Curtiss and Flintoff to name but three). It's a very similar role to others that have been offered contracts (such as Joe Denly) but who might not play as much as others.

In my opinion, yes.   He is a bowler who can get very good players out.  His problem is fitness. If he played all our CC games, he'd take about 70-80 wickets in those games. His problem is that he hasn't been able to play very much. Sort out his fitness, and we have a good bowling option from which to choose.

Wonder if there's still room in the budget for another domestic seamer? Feels like there's a lot of weight currently on keeping a group of injury hit seamers healthy

Who could have predicted that Surrey's Hundred team will now be known as MI London?

Oli Slipper(y), the Surrey chairman said: “We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with the Reliance team over our partnership in the Hundred franchise team. Reliance bring a significant depth of cricket and business expertise and have had great success with their franchise teams in India and around the world.

“We have worked very closely with Reliance over the name of the new team and believe that MI London will give us the best opportunity to build the fanbase at home and across the world.”

I also wonder if they paid a consultancy millions to come up with that name?

Reliance Industries own 6 teams now.

    • Mumbai Indians in IPL
    • Mumbai Indians in WPL
    • MI Cape Town in SA20
    • MI New York in MLC
    • MI Emirates in ILT20
    • MI London in Hundred

The teams outside India all have the MI prefix. No consultancy needed.

The difference is that the owners of the Mumbai Indians, Reliance Industries Ltd, aren't the major shareholders. Surrey are.

The difference is that the Worldwide marketing of the franchise will promote the Oval and therefore Surrey in the other competitions.

Unlike the name, Oval Invincibles, there is no mention of the Oval not that the ground really needs that much promoting. If it did then they would be something like the MI Ovaltines instead. Money talks and this is all about promoting the Mumbai Indians franchise and linking their name to the capital, London. Pure and simple.

How does it promote Surrey worldwide - there is literally no reference to them

Surely the London Spirit (the other London Hundred) team could have a word about this? Or maybe they will change their name to BC London?

I was at Canterbury last night with my son who was doing a masterclass down there and Michael Cohen was the pro helping out, so he is still in the building. He took time with all the kids showing them various grips and suggesting slight changes to their individual bowling. seemed like a great bloke and genuinely please to help. Hope his sticks around next season and his injuries are behind him.

Not a surprise, but still good to have him around for another couple of years. His record in white ball cricket, as a keeper and captain is excellent. Strange that it's taken so long to announce it though.

I see Kent have introduced a new scheme, for those fans not wanting to be full members.

I see Kent have introduced a new scheme, for those fans not wanting to be full members.
It's specifically designed for our Surrey friends on CL in the hope that they will, eventually, see the light and switch allegiances permanently. Those ones that, in their hearts, realise that they don't want to be known as the Mumbai Indians London CC.
