Stokes' first 4 wickets were all terrible shots
That's why I call him "Golden Arm". He doesn't always get wickets with great balls but what he does do is to encourage a batter to have a go and after having had to face that previous barrage to him coming on the tendency seemed to be that he was the one the Aussies were going to go after - they either picked the wrong shot or executed it poorly.

Tbf Australia also have a walking wicket opening the batting
  • World class bowling from England. Saw our score at 7am at that smith and labuschagne were at the crease and I just accepted a 5-0 drubbing. One of our batsman needs to get a score and I think we’ll edge this. Wood and archer are absolute guns.

Ben Stokes has become the first player to take a five wicket haul and score a century in Tests in Perth. (Steve Waugh took a five wicket haul, but his highest Test score in Perth was 99*).

Woke up this morning as saw we were all out for under 200 and thought that was that. Excellent comeback.

With Cummings and Hazelwood both out injured and England going with a 5 man pace attack I'm surprised Australia prepared a wicket like this.
    Not that I'm complaining 😁

Was there today and didn’t think it’d end up as it did after the first few overs!

Scottish Charlton in the ground as well! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Bed time for me now. Hoping to wake up to a 4-5 wicket session.
I’ll take an eight wicket session. Very nice.

  • Great combo; Scotland & Charlton!

Last week, Steven told everybody that England had picked the wrong types of bowlers.

Here's a picture of how Steven got on today.

    Don't be like Steven.

Like Botham, Stokes is a man with a 'golden arm', innocuous deliveries perhaps luring batsmen into a false sense of security as Stokes serves up 'medium pacers' outside off instead of balls whistling past the head. Carey looking quite comfy then suddenly taps a practice catch to get out.
Is Ben Stokes a hypnotist as well as a supreme cricketer ?

This is test cricket Jim, but not as we used to know it

Absolutely astonishing first day for Ashes cricket.
Also, its highlighted the explosion of social media/podcasts about cricket in past couple of years

If that's true that is a major development. I think it makes it more likely Cummins breaks down too. Can see them rushing him back too quickly
  • There are a couple of players in the CA side playing the Lions who may figure in the coming Tests.

Jhye Richardson, coming back from injury, returned figures of 7-2-18-0 and Josh Inglis is overnight on 40* (37). Significantly, Inglis is opening in the match whereas he normally bats in the middle order for Queensland.
  • Gonna try to stick with the going to bed early and missing the first hour but getting the main part
of the day, next one is a day nighter as well

Not sure if already commented but how bad are TNT compared to Sky how did they get this gig it’s painful to listen to at times

The TNT comms/production etc are just so dull and devoid of atmosphere.

It has been mentioned how poor TNT have been but it is only what we feared. The reason they got to cover the Ashes is because Sky didn't even bid for it. Sky haven't covered an away Ashes since 2013/14  and it rather feels like they are selling their loyal subscribers somewhat short.

Typical Aussies, copying everything England does  ;)

Nice to see The West Australian putting the boot into the Aussies instead of England.

  • Australia paying the price here for effectively letting the players pick the team for them. Warner was allowed a farewell tour (wonder why he got treated with kid gloves?), and the idea of Australian selectors of the past allowing a 38 year old Usman Khawaja to play on this long would be unthinkable. That has created instability at the top, which means that Smith and ML are having to come in and face bowlers and a ball that is hard and fresh.
