Too reliant on not conceding. Not scoring enough goals. Think we'll miss out on GD.
GD isn't as much of an issue now we've caught up a lot on current play off spots, with Bolton and Reading not having a chance in catching us. Orient are going to have to fight a lot to catch us again.

I was giving my opinion with 12 games to play, during which time much can change no matter what the table looks like now.
  • Top 2 is way out of sight but top 6 is now a definite possibility. After Oriient's recent demise I would say (for us) it only goes down as far as Reading, and even they are 6 points off us if you take GD into account.

Still think we'll need at least 76 points......maybe even as much as 78. I did say on the Post Match thread we might need 80 points but now rowing back on that a little.

Although not losing to Stockport & Huddersfield looks crucial it's now more important that we make sure the pack don't catch us. Beating Bolton, Orient & Barnsley has put them on the back foot & made us the ones to catch. So to me it's more about keeping ahead of the pack than beating the ones above us.

Another 18-20 points should see us in the play offs. 6 wins & 2 draws would do nicely but I'd take or 5 wins & 3 draws.

And PS.  Our game in hand is away at Crawley. Dont bank on that being a foregone conclusion. As we all know.....we often do worse against poor teams.
You would have been saying the same thing about the playoffs, even more so back in November!!

In the last 15 games form table, we are top and have scored the most goals (28) in the entire division.

In the last 8 games we've conceded in, we've won 5 of them and drawn 1.
I wasn't aware that the season had finished.

And people are just challenging that opinion with their own.

I wasn't aware i'd said it had. Just that two of your comments "Too reliant on not conceding. Not scoring enough goals" are simply not true going by our recent form.

In any case we all know automatic promotion is still a long shot but we need to aim high, keep the run going and if we miss out on 2nd then so be it, and hopefully we can at least get 3rd or 4th and a home second leg.
Sorry. You didn't, but I'm assuming form is temporary and ours might dip again. I mean who saw the turnaround coming after Crawley?

Defensively we're second only to Brum I think over the season, and no way did NJ stumble on a formation that was harder to beat. He was working on that from the moment he came through the door and rightly so. We were tight at the back even during our lean spell of form.

The table after 34 games is the one I'm looking at, and you have to look down to Stevenage in eleventh for a team that's scored fewer.

Of course based on current form, I'd say we're play off certs, but there's more than a quarter of the season to go, so I'm not counting any chickens.

No team in League 1 is a ‘dead cert’ given the number of clubs in the mix and that includes Birmingham.

Over the last 10 games we've got the highest Goal Difference in the division. Chances are coming much more frequently now and I'm still confident we're going to give a couple more teams a hiding. Our goal difference now is equal to Huddersfield and Orient when we were at least 10 off them just a few weeks back and still 10+ more than Bolton and Reading. I don't think its a massive concern personally
I'm not too worried about the goal difference right now.

If (for example) we look at Wycombe they have a goal difference 13 better than us. But they face a very tough last 7-8 games where i don't think they will hammer anybody. We still have to play 6 of the bottom 9 teams, so the current difference could quite easily be closed up. But for now just let's keep on winning and see how things look at the end of the month.
  • The play offs will be alot tougher if Bolton make them, can see them overhauling Huddersfield
  • I agree I see Bolton as the main threat they seem to be hitting form at the right time

It is looking that way but the marker will be the form of the teams going into the play offs. I agree that they have some excellent players and have spent a bit of money which has gone under the radar a bit as they haven't been at the forefront of the league so far but I see them as more of a threat to us than Stockport and Huddersfield. Not to say we can't beat them. We have already twice this season.

  • Bolton have reached the play offs the last 2 seasons and bottled it both times.
  • 3rd time lucky for them then
  • The most significant result on Tuesday regarding League one was Bolton 3 Birmingham 1 for non Charlton folk.

The fact this will be Bolton 3rd straight attempt at the play-offs assuming they finish 3rd to 6th, proves what a consistent side they are and with Steven Schumacher now having Bolton in the fast lane, they would definitely be favourites in my opinion.

The perennial Play-off losers Sunderland were so relieved they didn't have to play CAFC in the final that they beat Wycombe in the '22' final with ease 2-0 and went into that final unbeaten in 15 matches.
  • Been listening to loads of podcasts who all think Bolton are going to finish 2nd. They barely even mention us despite being 2 points better off and a much better record in our last 15 games. Schumacher's sides are always so open as we saw when we absolutely pumped Plymouth 5-1 the season they went up.

Hard to see them not slipping up a couple of times.

That was a freak of a game when Schumacher made one tactical mistake after an injury and Charlton ran riot with many players that were regularly slated having excellent games, Stockley and Gilbey to mention just two.
Since Schumacher has taken over from the prickly Evatt their results are on the upturn and with CAFC are pushing past Orient and Huddersfield* who have hit a bad patch.

*Udders are poor at home in 25 so far.

3rd time lucky for us turning our club around and not falling back to L1

I see Bolton finishing the season very strong and being in the top 4, but my point was more why are we not being touted for Top 2 if Bolton are.
  • If we beat Stockport and Wycombe drop points this week then I think it’s on. We would probably need to beat Wycombe and Wrexham away or at least get 4 points from those 2 games at the end of the season
  • No we wont make the Play-Offs... Because we're finishing second!! - Keep up the faith!!
    Deffo keep aiming for autos.

Even if we miss, we will have prepared for winning the playoffs.
How we get there I don't know.
How we get there I don't care.
All I know is Charlton is on the way ⬆️
    Is t it…

how we get there I don’t know
what we do there I don’t care

Bolton are welcome to that pressure and if we are under the radar, then great.
The last ten games have seen Charlton go from a mid table team to contenders 👏🏻

The match we mugged Bolton and the Orient added time victory have given players and fans alike a new swagger.

The cliché 'one game at a time' is correct and let's see where we are at 2.30ish on Saturday. We play for a win but a draw would be an excellent point as long as it's followed up by a win at Crawley !

Sorry, 🤦🏻‍♂️it's one game at a time.
