Gillesphey made a couple of awful passes that could have cost us dear - but credit where it's due, he defended very well tonight and that cross for Lloyd Jones' goal was excellent.
Subs made all the difference,Anderson was superb and must start saturday,Chucks did his job riled them up ,really got on their tits and held the ball up superbly in the corners.Gillesphey,I am at a loss, total inability to pass a ball all game ,then comes up with a cross like that.
Bolton are very easy on the eye in attacking areas, but they do give you a chance at the back, and mentally are really fragile at the moment. Once we equalised, you could see them losing their heads. That tetchiness starts from the top, Evatt must be in big trouble now.
A smash and grab victory, but we've been on the receiving end of those plenty of times. Once we took the lead, we held on very professionally.
Gillesphey can occasionally do very nice passes with his left foot, but defensively he's definitely a weak link. Berry was anonymous, while Miles didn't have once of his better games. The subs definitely improved things, which reflects well on Jones for changing things, and badly for picking the wrong starting 11
But they didn’t give up, and the subs improved us.
Happy for Anderson who always looks energetic, and always looks like he cares. Got a bit lucky with the deflection, but showed good strength and technique to make the shot possible. In fact without the deflection it was heading for the far post, so he might have scored anyway.
Always good to have Chuks on the pitch. Makes things happen, and can actually head the ball, as well as having better touch than the rest of them.
Can you believe we’re four points from the playoffs with a game in hand?
Fair play to the team- it was painful watching until the substitutions changed the game in our favour late on. It does make one fantasise that if we had a fit Aneke, played better than average all season and had owners that put even a smidge of effort into bringing a few decent reinforcements we could be in the play off positions quite comfortably. All conjecture of course!
It also underlines that bar a handful of sides -this is a very poor League One and anyone with any determination to grab it by the scruff of the neck has a decent shot at being in the promotion shake up.
I've criticised Nathan Jones on selection and tactics but tonight he won us the game. Every sub worked perfectly and given Jones something to think about. On the down side, it's hard to see how we continue with Mitchell and Gillesphey in the back three, Gillesphey gets caught out of position for the goal and both he and Mitchell lack any pace, plus Mitchell's passing is awful.
I actually think we deserved that based on the last 30 mins the attitude was the polar opposite to Saturday. Please please please don’t do a normal Charlton and lose to Shrewsbury at the weekend, we now have 2 games where if we take the 6 points we will be well in the mix
Not sure how we won that, but not going to complain. We had an immense last 20 mins and finally got some luck!
Cov and Doc were excellent second half. Godden & Anderson looked very sharp, hope they start next game. Leaburn looks like be could use a rest. Gillesphey is a L1 Carl Tiler.
Agree with Brownie at the end, if we can sort out our defending again and bring in 2-3 more, we might have a go.
Watched it from 40 minutes. Thought Bolton were good for their lead when they scored. We looked a bit frail, but then just before our goal, there was a change in our feel. We looked like we were up for it. The Gillesphey cross was as good as any you'll see in any league. It arched over everyone to a Jones just strolling in at back post with boot stretched out, and keeper no chance. Anderson did the hard work to win the ball on the bounce and his turn and bringing the ball with him was a thing of beauty. One swipe with his boot and the angled ball that was more a cross that hit their nearest defender and their keeper was left in no man's land as it slipped past him at the near post. Raptures.
I was stunned. To come from behind so late in the game is just unlike us for such a long time. To be fair their were jitters, but we actually tried the shithousery and it was such panto.
The ref gave us almost every throw-in afterwards. Even the lino joined in with an offside, just as they appeared to have had the run on our defence AGAIN! To say their man was enraged, would put it mildly.
And for Evatt to have words with Jones at the end is priceless.
So pleased for the fans that travelled as they bloody deserve some cheer thoughts all of their journey home.
Need to build on this with a couple of quality additions and a win on Saturday. Mad to think we've been as awful as we have been for so much of this season and still aren't out of it
Bonkers game: Terrible defending for their goal. Great ball in by Trent Alexander-Gillesphey with Lloyd 'Fox in the box' Jones finishing with aplomb. Then the much criticised Anderson showed great skill with a great touch and strength to shoulder the defender and then play a cannon off another defender for the winner !
The standard in the 3rd tier is mediocre but any win for CAFC is much needed and makes a change for us to have some luck with a deflection. 👏🏻
Just seen Matete's stamp again on Twitter. Surely gonna get a retrospective ban for that.
He got booked for it and I believe the rules are so stupid that it means he can’t be done retrospectively
Unless the ref says he didn’t see it and booked him for something else
Yeah stupid rule that is,I reckon the ref missed it heard the players then panicked into having to Do something when really it's better him not doing anything and the player getting pulled for it with video evidence afterwards but now gets away with it.
Nathan deserves a lot of credit for those changes. We did look tired and I can see more changes for Saturday. Anderson for Berry..maybe reg or Zach for Mitchell and Kayne getting some game time.
A lot of credit to the whole squad though. We did show character and that got us through
