Mostly, it was a frustrating afternoon in South East London. That is, until the very end.
Visitors Shrewsbury Town were blunt in an almost non-existent attack and, whilst keeping them contained and limited to set pieces, the Addicks found it difficult to then break through themselves. Second half changes made some difference, but it was ultimately a case of persistence.
Leaving it to the last moment, on 95+ minutes the Valley suddenly burst into life when Thierry Small pounced into the box to prod home the winner. Composed and sure, Small came in from the far side to meet the ball after a bit of a scramble found him one on one with the onrushing keeper. It’s a fitting end to the match as the young fella has been in fine form but unable to keep composure when he’s had the opportunities of late.
Three points in the bank turned around an annoying afternoon, setting us up nicely for Tuesday night where we have the opportunity to piece together a bit of a run.
Charlton 1 Shrewsbury 0

In the words of Rarmani Edmonds Green: BIG WIN!
Had the feeling it would go the way of the 0-0 with Reading though
Lets be honest... Nothing will ever beat a 95th minute winner!!

Post Match Stats: Charlton Athletic vs Shrewsbury Town : r/LeagueOne
They pressed well and out muscled us at times
But had little or no threat for 90mins..
Could just have easily been a soul crushing 0-1. Instead, well, Tiny Tel comes up huge.
In years past we lose that game. Two months ago we draw it. Today, after pressuring Reading and Mansfield and not finding a breakthrough, we won. Massive.
For a team in "form", that was a worrying performance for their fans. Oh and I'm also disappointed, as our goal means that the bottom four arent all on 21-pts now, as my OCD was enjoying the sight of that... Oh well... Never mind!
Successful teams find a way to win and we did. Was it a bit harsh on a Shrewsbury team who defended doggedly? Yes. Was it a bit fortunate after we failed to create really any other clear chances? Yes. Do I give a fuck? No.
Big big result that now needs to be backed up with another win on Tuesday. As a performance, it’s highlighted, perfectly, why we need to add one or two more players in the attacking third to give some more creative spark and options to change things up. We have to get better at breaking down sides that defend like Shrewsbury did. That’s a problem for another day though, tonight is about enjoying the rewards for keeping on keeping on two games running.
