I thought Shrewsbury were incredibly well organised and we had little or no guile. In the end pure persistence and effort won it
Agreed, I thought they gave a very good away performance. Frustrate the home team, and try and nick a goal from a breakaway or set piece. In the second half they probably had better chances then we did before we scored.
My brother counted the floodlights on the West Stand. You can see how exciting the game was. 34 working, 29 not working. The other non footballing thing I noticed is the pitch became more and more bobbly as the second half went on, and it became increasingly difficult to play a passing game, so that might be another reason why we went more long ball in the last 20 mins.
We deserved to win but it could easily have been one of those matches where we might have been ahead in every department of the game apart from goals.
One thing (and I mentioned it on the match thread) I really do not understand for the life of me. We are at home. We are struggling to break down the opposition who have a corner. We have all 11 defending and we clear the ball to no one on the half way line. With our pace that really is one situation where there are massive gaps to exploit but, instead, we are inviting the opposition to send the ball straight back into our box and put us under more pressure. Until we clear it again that is.
Shrewsbury were poor, not for a lack of effort on their part. When they had good moments on the ball they did nothing with it and lacked composure. Even so, they should have nicked it at the end.
Not sure why we pay lesser sides so much respect, and play within ourselves, it's not like Shrewsbury made it particularly difficult for us. A medium-risk pass forwards too often overlooked in preference to getting the ball back to Jones and a system reset for both sides. I'm certainly not complaining that we got away with it today!
Hoping we play on the front foot on Tuesday, the players are more than good enough to do so.
we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we ain't about to lose sight of it again...👍
I reckon we will if just one more bulb in that corner goes
Does anyone know a decent sparky...
they will have to ask the "crowd" in that stand to put their phone lights soon....... oh looking at that pic I dont think that will make too much of a difference
I know it's all ifs and buts but throwing away two points at Oakwell at the death could come back to bite us on the bum.
I understand where you're coming from but it's one of those things that inevitably happens at least once to every team, every season - that is actually the only points we have dropped from a winning position all season which is a huge positive in my book - one thing about us which is a key difference from last year is when we get in front we STAY in front generally - it must have happened about 10 times last season where we managed to turn wins into draws.
Love a last minute winner, feels like ages since we've had one at home.
Shrewsbury should really have been ahead with that great chance at the end. Right in the mix for the playoffs, no one is outstanding for that 5th/6th spot so we've got a chance
While I wouldn't suggest he had a great game (not sure anyone did, even if Thierry well deserves his MoM) I'm a bit surprised by the negative assessment of Miles Leaburn by quite a few. Everybody seems to have forgotten that our best effort in 95 minutes was his precisely directed header, direct from a corner, which drew a very good save from their keeper. Watch the replays of it, if you can.
It's funny that considering how poor the game was as a spectacle, everybody gets a buzz from that late winner. We needed to move the ball quicker to break down an eleven man defence and Luke Berry and Miles Leaburn would probably not have this down as their finest moment. In fairness to the team, after the work the that they put in against Bolton, this game was not going be fluent and Shrewsbury made sure it wasn't, got to say their keeper looks pretty solid, and our crosses were easily his every time.

I don’t think anyone is being negative mate but he does seem a bit off it. He can’t seem to hold the ball up and wins hardly any headers. Hopefully just a temporary dip

It was a great header but one header doesn’t make a good performance. He lost the physical battle with CB’s and that happens sometimes. He’s a young player who is still learning, it’s ok to say he had a bad game
Not sure where all the Berry hate has come from. He was no less effective than everyone else out there today. Winning ugly is a good habit to have. #OnOn
Would like him as a squad player but we desperately need an effective attacking midfielder in his position.
Berry has a weird knack of scoring most of his goals late in games. 90+2, 90+6, 77 and 90+3 in the league. Seem to remember he had that reputation at Luton too.
Having him available off the bench would be a great option.

Hadn't noticed that - great stat!
That's high praise coming from our resident statto!! thank you
We have also earned back more points from losing positions this season than we have lost from winning positions because we have had 3 score draws where we came back from one down to rescue a point so in terms of winning and losing positions we are in a net 1 point gain, which again I think is pretty rare for us. Edit i'm forgetting the Bolton Golfie! so its actually a net 4 point gain
Obviously there is those 8 occasions where we couldn't bring it back and a few nil alls in there (that we probably should have won in fairness) as well but that's why we are fighting for play-offs instead of autos.
Oooh, it’s getting tight up at the top for those play-off places. It’s gonna be dog eat dog until the end of the season. I quite fancy a trip to Wemberlee
Said it before and I know it’s if/but/maybe - but that bloody Barnsley last kick of the game goal at Oakwell is a twat. We’d replace them in 6th now.
It’s awful football in an awful league it lacks any reasonable talent and our team is shite to watch. We kick off like a rugby union outfit. My only hope is that it clicks sometime soon but if we get out of this league we’ve never done it with a more inept side
we have some strange fans. It’s league one not the champions league. Played well enough in my eyes. Patient build up, won lots of loose balls, showed endeavour and tenacity and finally got what we deserved. They had one chance and fluffed it. Many complaints about resorting to long ball tactics towards the end but every team does that in desperation and why not when you have a battering ram like Chuks.
Rather than revel in the joy of a well deserved last minute winner some would rather focus on what was lacking or even more bizarrely moan about the fucking floodlights!! 5 wins and a draw in our last 7 games and we’re heading in the right direction. Enjoy the ride! I certainly will as it’s a far cry from the despair of wondering if we would even have a club to support in future

I’m not sure it’s a case of playing within ourselves. I think when teams set up to play for a draw, and are well drilled, it can sometimes highlight that lack of quality that imo, we definitely suffer from.
We deserved the win, but today luck was definitely on our side. Shrewsbury should’ve taken the lead in the 90 whatever minute it was they had their chance, and we were so fortunate because the guy actually scuffed it and the scuff almost rolled in. We’ve seen this so many times over the years, better footballing teams visit and try to play, and it allows us the gaps and we get results like the win against Birmingham this season.
If we had gotten an early goal, I think we could’ve powered on and won that comfortably, but Shrewsbury were within their right to set up the way they did, and personally, I think it highlighted that lack of quality we have
Apart from our goal, I’m not sure how many clear cut chances I can remember- a couple of runs to the byline in the 2nd half and some threatening balls across goal, but we were huffing and puffing
I wrote after Bolton that there is something I don’t trust about this team, but fair play to the run from Northampton. And fair play to Nathan Jones as well. He deserves some credit for this run as I think things had started to turn against him, and we’ve all seen how that spiraled for previous managers over the last few years
Big few games coming up. I still think we’ll fall short, don’t mean to dampen the optimism, it just feels out of kilter for anything more than 8-12th
I’m a big Leaburn fan but he does look a little leggy at the moment. He’s played a lot of minutes since returning from injury and it might be catching up with him a bit. A couple of games rest might not be the worst thing. Maybe a tweak to the starting XI is in order for Tuesday. Perhaps Kanu in for Leaburn and Godden for Berry.
That was never going to be an easy game, they're fighting for their lives, and Gareth Ainsworth is their manager. I was actually impressed we looked fairly comfortable the whole game.
We lack a bit of creativity, which hopefully we fix, and there's a glaring hole in midfield, but we we fight, and don't give much away.
Absolutely buzzing. Most I've enjoyed a goal since Derby away, felt like a turning point moment. We got so lucky to not concede at the death, and then go and score the winner.

Usually leave on 86 mins but stayed today...so you can thank me for the win.
