NJ on Keith Hackett: Thierry Small & the corner flag

@RichCawleySLPNathan Jones has told ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett there are bigger things in society to worry about - after Hackett said Thierry Small should face FA sanction for kicking a corner flag on Saturday. #cafc

@RichCawleySLPJones: “Tell Keith Hackett to have a look at the news. There is knife crime, racial abuse, there’s wars going on all around the place, there’s certain people in certain areas doing certain things. That’s the least of the worries in society today. Well done, Keith." #cafc

I was surprised at the time Small wasn't booked, but Nathan is right, it's a bizarre thing to make a big deal out of

Hackett thought nineteen players involved in this punch-up didn't deserve to be booked...

But, aiming a kick at a corner flag..?

I imagine Keith had a tenner on a 0-0 result against Shrewsbury

Maybe Small should have been booked, but good to see an Official showing sense and recognising there is emotion in Football, and that players will often get swept up in that moment, especially with a last minute goal

Jamie Vardy literally did it to a corner flag with the actual flag promoting LGBT stuff and didn't get a sanction to my knowledge. Not saying for 1 second that's why Vardy kicked it btw! Just that if that moment didn't get a sanction, why on earth should this?

I remember Thierry Henry whacking that same corner flag when he scored against us at The Valley. Did he get booked?

As far as I’m aware you can’t get a retrospective booking and it certainly wasn’t a sending off offence. Should he has been booked, yes in my opinion.

It’s interesting about Hackett chipping in. Has he any official capacity? He did comment after the Bolton game that Matete should have been red carded and that subsequently happened.

I can’t argue with his claim that, ‘there’s certain people in certain areas doing certain things.’
He’s hit the nail on the head there. I’m certain about it.

Vardy got the flag, signed it, and raised money for Leicester LGBTQ+ group through an auction

I hope the ref saw it and just used common sense that this was a 96th minute winner and thus a little leeway with the celebration was allowed. He was probably also as stunned as everyone else in the stadium that there had actually been in a goal in the most tedious match in modern history,

Hackett gets a few bob from Football Insider to comment on all manner of decisions it seems - there's a few articles there. Odd one for FI to ask him to comment on though

“Well done, Keith.” is my new quote of the season.
"Well done Keith, Mr Idiot" completes it for me.

Hackett was a dreadful ref and now totally insignificant, no need to listen to him, sure nothing will be done.

Perhaps Hackett should concentrate on the performance of the refs so can be better at their jobs. The Blackpool game this season was an absolute farce and that was largely down to an incompetent ref refusing to deal with the most blatant time wasting I've seen in 40+ years of watching football.

If he hadn't of done it then no one would of seen the reaction time of our soon to be new goalkeeping coach.

If that was the free kick equaliser, that was up the other end.
    But I’m guessing it wasn’t.

No it was not, was one of the goals in the 3-0 defeat, April 2002

Aren’t corner flags supposed to be woke?
We never had them on Plumstead Common back in the Woolwich and District Sunday League days.

I saw this comment from him on Monday and I thought it just about summed him up. Joyless twat, that probably wouldn't even get invited to a funeral, for fear of him making it even more unbearable. Yes, technically it could have resulted in a booking, but thankfully the ref understood it for what it was. Strip passion away from the game and you're left with.........Palace.
