  • Not surprised we lost. predicted a bigger one.

But it hides the fact we are a few players short, and that's a decent gollkeeper and  centre half to compliment Jones., an attacking midfielder and a decent striker instead of this miss match of rotating them all.

Birmingham will go up. However, it would never surprise me if May makes only the odd appearance, and is back playing in league one after the Jan transfer window.

I doubt he will make January - he'll be moved on at the end of this season.
With the contract he is on, May won't want to give that up easily - especially at his age.

He'll probably be happy to go out on loan though, if he's not getting regular football.

  • They may well have been better than us, as they should have been, but the diving, time wasting, head holding etc. in the last quarter of the match was pathetic. Ref was appalling on the whole, giving out ridiculous yellow cards (especially to Docherty), but there was one great moment late on when one of them went down holding his head and the ref completely ignored him. Soon back on his feet. One of the highlights of a pretty miserable game. On to Exeter and the bounce back
  • I think AMB injured his foot doing a long kick.
I think AMB injured his confidence with his outside the box walkabout and wobbly display

  • It was inside the box - NJ said so :)
  • Either team could have won today and a draw was probably the right result. The main difference was they had a quality striker who could finish one of their only clear chances.
Felt Campbell and Kanu were too light weight for this game (not sure why he did not bring Aneke on - he has not played well recently but he can create chances for others through the chaos he creates).
After Tuesday it was a free hit so we move on......

  • I went today with some blind optimism after our current run and was hoping we would have a bit of a go at them.
Thought in the first half we gave them far too much respect and some players just didn’t seem up for the fight and seemed beaten by the event.

The goal was a poor one to give away, massive errors from Connor for having his pocket punched out there and for Gillesphy allowing him to carry the ball so far.

We rode our luck a little but didn’t really think they looked like adding a second. Where I’m more concerned was we didn’t have enough attacking threat and thought the subs lacked any real impact.

The refs performance was shocking, and for a bloody good team don’t Birmingham like to throw themselves on the floor a lot.

lets make sure we bounce back Saturday

  • Tough first half, very much second best , but more even in second half and Birmingham standards dropped. My son and I and the guys next to us were calling for TC to be hooked at half time for Leaburn. He was not on it today and when miles came on we looked more threatening. Defenders did well but just not our day today, nothing dropped for us and Birmingham were clever and dirty when needed. But just one match, time to bounce back!

I'm a harsher critical than most but I thought we were awful. They won't have a more comfortable 1-0 all season
    I'm with you.
Devoid of any football skills , plenty of heart but no nouse. Team gave everything except played as individuals, as if passing had never been invented.

    As bad as Crawley game.

I love it when we win, however it comes about, but we play ugly football. Really ugly.

A chance to touch the ball then send up the pitch as far as you can. A chance to head the ball to a colleague- no go for distance.

Some passing might have relieved the pressure, and there was a glimmer in the last 15 mins but soon petered out.

If thats the way we were going to play - long range punts forward - then start with the big forwards who will stand a chance of holding the ball. Godden was just ineffectual- that stuff is not his game.
TC not at it except for 2 brief moments.

Berry scores some nice goals but apart from those moments is invisible.

There is a chance of the playoffs but we will be the worse performing team ever to get there.

Sorry I can't lie, its what was there on the screen.

Well done to Brum they won with a moment of quality, in reality we were never in it.

    Nonsense post.
Some people don’t half spout some shite eh!!
  • Oh, also Jay Stanfield looks like a right little wanker and I hope someone snaps him at some point.

Also I'm getting Lyle Taylor vibes from Alfie May, right twatty behaviour with the over the top celebrations after the throw in and general facial expressions.

We just seem to love signing players who lack a bit of class when they leave and play against us.
In fairness,  don't suppose Alfie May feels any great love or warmth towards Jones after the way he treated him.
Whatever happened between him and Jones is between them two, he still came across muggy.

On reflection I'm a bit of a hypocrite cause I was taking the piss when he was being muggy towards Cheltenham fans after we played against them.

You're not welcome back at the Valley May mate.

May is welcome back anytime as far as I'm concerned.
    To each his own mate.

    The shrimps dead to me.

Can’t get too down about the result. What is slightly concerning is our lack 9f midfield options on the bench and even more so the lack of suitable cover for Campbell/Small.

Also hope our lacklustre performance wasn’t to do with stage fright. Need to be a lot better at Stockport, Wrexham, Wycombe and Orient.
Stage fright, was a point when I thought we were going to ask for autographs and selfies with them. First half completely failed to turn up…..

The game was effectively over at half time. They were vastly superior to us in the first half. I think they figured out that we would really struggle to lay a glove and, even if we found a way in to the match, they would just take it up a gear or two. In the end they didn’t need to.

It’s no great shame, Birmingham are a really good side for this level with the calibre of players we can only dream of (just look at their bench!). Our fate will be determined by how we get on against the rest of the teams in the league.

As an aside, Birmingham is a very weird place. That walk from New St to the stadium is mainly through parts of the city centre (or adjacent to) yet it’s 50% or more derelict sites and wasteland. It’s crazy for the centre of the second largest city in the country.
I shit you not, i actually walked over a dead rat on the road leading back to the High St after. Bizarre place, and agree completely about the amount of area taken up with derelict sites, yards etc

I read that headline and thought blimey Jonesy that's a bit brutal on Ash and then read the article and he's talking about their bench  :D  :D
FFS mate, Ash was in a different post code when he grabbed the ball

    Indeed
  • The team gave it their best and worked very hard, so much so that we were not steam-rollered
But we could see the difference in class, for example their first touch was better than ours, their long balls were more accurate than ours. Just two examples.
You can see why they are unbeaten at home so far.

Yeh, we were beaten by a better side is probably the long and short of it.
I think it was a measure of how far we've come that we remained competitive and didn't capitulate after the goal.
I think the fact that we were never able to really threaten their goal meant that they didn't have to find a higher gear.
Our primary attacking threats were nullified, Small by an exceptional MOM performance by Cochrane and a rather hapless TC lacking his usual verve and energy kind of shrivelled under the challenge.
It took a moment of class for them to win the game. Yeh, we can criticise Cov and Macca for not doing better but I wouldn't back any of our strikers to have won the ball in the position Stansfield did and end up finishing with the aplomb that the arsey tosser did.
The shithousery, crap reffing and all is just noise.
Now let's bounce back against Exeter and the one I am really looking forward to, let's to to Brisbane Road an wreck Orient's unbeaten run

  • Goalkeeper should have done better.
    We move on.

Jones lives in his own fantasy world.
When asked about the handball incident – during which opposite number Chris Davies was cautioned for his protestations – Jones added: “No, he didn’t [handle the ball outside of the area].
