Saw Alfie May try to gee up the Birmingham crowd when he won a throw in. Is that what people are getting upset about? Unless I missed something else it was pretty mundane and hardly deserves the flak some are giving him.
He wasn’t fancied here by the manager, did an outstanding job for us in the season we did have, and he’s gone on to better things on a number of levels.

The sensitivity of some of our fans when it comes to players moving on is embarrassing.
he is the new Scot Parker for supporters to boo.
  • Disappointing but not unexpected.

Need to bounce back against Exeter.
  • I think AMB injured his foot doing a long kick.
It looked more like a hammy or groin to me. He has limping a bit, but I thought it was more upper leg than ankle. Could be wrong of course.
  • We lost to a better side. Our forward players look like they could do with a rotation. In hindsight my 4-0 prediction was a little rash.

  • A long but enjoyable day, despite the result. Birmingham isn’t often high on the list of must-visit UK cities—unlike Bristol, Liverpool, or Manchester, which boast history, culture, and vibrancy—so I was intrigued to explore it. What I hadn’t expected, perhaps naively, was that St Andrew’s is in a predominantly Asian area, filled with mosques and fantastic eateries. After parking, we had an outstanding Shawarma lunch—no other fans in sight, but incredibly welcoming staff and fellow diners, and the food was top-notch.

On to the match. Much has been said, but I felt Nathan got his subs wrong—Leaburn should have come on earlier instead of Kanu. Jones, usually a defensive rock, was caught out of position after charging too far left, playing a role in the goal. Were Birmingham £30M better? Probably. Did they show class? Absolutely not. Their time-wasting was embarrassing for a top-of-the-league side at home.

Nathan now has a week to recharge the squad. Sticking with the same XI may not be the smartest move, as Brum clearly knew what to expect. March 1st against Orient feels like a true six-pointer—keeping the dream alive that we might, just might, have a Wembley playoff against Wrexham!

    Jones said it was groin.

In terms of the comments about May I would say it’s more of an act.

He likes the attention and obviously knows the Birmingham fans will give him a reaction if he does something like that.

kinda similar with Cheltenham away with us, yeah he might have shown them a little more respect (he was with them longer) but that didn’t stop him celebrating.if I recall correctly

I thought the match was poised for a late Leaburn equaliser. But that wasn’t to be.

    We never looked like scoring.
Not true. Right at the end there we were close. Great cross by Gilbert and Miles took it off the head of Kanu who had an open goal behind him. Seeing how we’ve scored late deciding goals lately I was waiting for that moment. Could/should have been a goal.

I agree. That was the moment

Charlton travelled to top-of-the-table Birmingham looking to build on the win at the Valley in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. But it would be a tough task from the outset.

For the first twenty or so minutes, Birmingham were dominant but Charlton were resolute and equal to the task, if not competitive. In a bizarre moment that caused Birmingham and their supporters to rage, Ashley Maynard-Brewer looked to have handled the ball outside of the box but escaped without punishment. Having escaped that calamity, Charlton looked to get a hold in the game but Birmingham’s righteous indignation proved a problem. Then, in a moment of haplessness, Birmingham’s pressure proved fruitful. Jay Stansfield, the always-angry, snot-nosed, beady-eyed, chinless wonder, made his own opportunity by hounding a complacent Conor Coventry and stealing the ball away to charge down the wing and finish past Maynard-Brewer with a targeted blast from ten yards. That was the only goal of the first half, though Birmingham certainly had a host of opportunities that could have seen them clear.

Charlton were more competitive in the second half, which was, on a whole, a much more scrappy affair. Ashley Maynard-Brewer was replaced through injury by Will Mannion, who looked composed in his return, though he had little to do. Charlton changed shape but to little initial effect, while Birmingham continued to press for more. Further changes were made, first with Daniel Kanu and Karoy Anderson, then with Miles Leaburn and Alex Gilbert coming on. Kanu had a half chance and Leaburn seemed to cause the Birmingham backline trouble but, otherwise, Charlton were rather blunt in attack and real opportunities were rare. I thought the match was poised for a late Leaburn equaliser, more in hope than based on anything on display this afternoon. But that wasn’t to be and Charlton left empty handed.

Birmingham were good for the win. On another day, Charlton may have nicked a result but it’s clear that, though the recent run has been impressive, we’re short of the quality needed to pose trouble at the very top.

    Birmingham 1 Charlton 0

    Over to you.

You don't really care for him do you? Made me laugh though.
  • Really shouldn’t be going to Brum for a 3pm ko and not getting home till 10.30,  bloody long day

They were a level above but we contained them well for most of it and could have nicked an underserved point but it was a free hit and we couldn’t quite do it.

Looked like more OB outside the away end after the game than we took to Bolton 😀

Orient is a big big game…

At worst a point dropped, never saw us winning the thing. Their goalie first half: pass it like Beckham.

  • Took forever to drive there and back over an hour to get out of that shithole to get on the motorway, saw some players at the motorway service station .
most been said already, personally I think Kanu is nowhere near this level, his first touch and shooting ability aren’t good enough , send him on loan please , he shouldn’t be getting on the pitch for us .
Really good noise from our fans today but some proper states in our end as well as theirs (I’m not talking about the lovely Fanny I spoke to after the game , hope you got home safe )
some fucking weirdo off his tits in our end asked my nephew at the end of the game “did we lose’ fucking freak show .
’where were you when you were shit’ sung to a team in their first third tier season in 33 years 🤷‍♂️

there’s plenty to play for and the play off lottery is up for grabs we have as good a chance as any of that cluster of clubs

the underlying message of where were you when you were shit completely valid

13 years in the champ since they went down from Prem… average crowds varying between 15k to 22k probs overall average of about 18k. Similar to what we would probably average in the champ (on paper anyway).

This season 27k… the swell not turning up cos a load of them suddenly thought they need to rally round cos they got relegated … it’s cos they’re glory merchants giddy at the top 6 championship side they’ve bought their flash owners and promises of a 60k ground and European football

for those of us that continue to graft through the misery of the week in week out at the valley the last few years/ decade, they more than deserve that stick

We played the way I expected and I think how we had to. The margin for error wasn't there, it was never going to be, and we made an error. Outside of that we frustrated them I thought. They are the best side in the league but had 10 attempts to our 8. I think the big factor for them winning was the quality of their defence. Cochrane engaged with Small early and fiercly. This is risky unless you really are a top defender.

We needed all the stars to align and they didn't quite but that game is out of the way and we start a new run to glory now. A few days rest is needed before the final group of games that are going to define our season, rather than this one.
  • Everyone hammering Coventry for the goal. Fair enough he was at fault but the primary cause was TC’s miscontrol (one of many) a second before.
  • Both yesterday & Blackpool we conceded when a player tries to do too much rather than the simple thing of putting the ball out. 3 points dropped, hopefully Jones will drill into them, if in doubt, put it into the street outside.
  • NJ did Alfie a favour whether he meant to or not. Security for his family must be important to him surely. He could have been a bit more respectful but our fans were giving him pelters. It is probably a good idea to forget him. The team is better without him IMO.
  • Statistically, we are going to lose games, we just need to make sure those losses don’t occur too often. That the game we lost was against the team that spent an absolute fortune for this division and is reaping the reward for that expenditure by romping away at the top of the table, albeit not without being beaten by us at the Valley first, doesn’t seem like such a big deal to me. Other teams that have still got games against Birmingham to play may well look at it and think it was a result they’d take when their match comes around. I very much doubt any of them will be pencilling in wins or draws against Birmingham. The only thing that matters for us about yesterday’s 1-0 defeat is how we bounce back from it and go on another run of wins.

    I'd say one point dropped.
No way was we going to win .
  • Still think we should wear red unless there is a colour clash. White at a push....but yellow ??? Don't care about sponsorship money. Hand it back if needs be. How much is it anyway  ??  £50k ? £100k ?  More ?

Whatever it is it's not worth it.
