MATCH THREAD : Leyton Orient V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 1st March 2025 :KO 15:00

Hello everyone...
Today we are back on the road again, with a relatively short trip through Blackwall Tunnel for a very important meeting with Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road (Matchroom Stadium).
This is the first of a hat trick of matches that are real 6 pointers, and will be followed by Barnsley at home Tuesday and away at Stockport the following Saturday, three matches in 7 days, so we really do need to get something from todays game, and why not three points...should be within our means.
Orient sit one place above us on equal points only separated by +4 goal difference, but we do of course have that game in hand on them as well, and also Huddersfield.
Nathan has confirmed Doc is back in contention following his illness last week, so another fully fit squad to choose from, whilst it looks like Orient have a host of missing players due to injury or suspension.

We've locked horns on 56 previous occasions, winning 24, Orient 21, and the remaining 11 meetings resulting in draws, Orient ran out 2-0 victors at The Valley when the sides last met in the Vertu Trophy back in December 2024...so we owe the one eh...

The Addicks will be sporting their yellow away kit in east London.

So, heads down everyone here we go

Team news...

Nathan Jones has named an unchanged team for today’s trip to Leyton Orient in Sky Bet League One.

Greg Docherty, who missed last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Exeter City through illness, returns to the substitutes bench.

Kayne Ramsay, captain Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey once again start in a back three in front of Will Mannion.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with last week’s Player of the Match Karoy Anderson, Conor Coventry and Luke Berry making up a midfield three.

Matty Godden and Tyreece Campbell, who scored in last Saturday’s victory, once again start up front.

Docherty is joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Tennai Watson, Tom McIntyre, Alex Gilbert, Chuks Aneke and Miles Leaburn.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones (c), Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Anderson, Edwards; Godden, Campbell

Subs: Reid, McIntyre, Watson, Docherty, Gilbert, Leaburn, Aneke

I really like their striker Kelman. He's got fantastic technical ability and is a great link man.
  • Sent from my Orient supporting mate. I’ll be watching from Easter Island.

On loan from QPR so could be one to keep an eye on for the summer. Spent most of the last 3 seasons out on loan.

  • Unchanged

  • NJ goes away from 3 strikers in the bench for the first time in a while
  • No Kanu
  • Actually forgot about Alex Mitchell (not on the subs bench again) but he is next in line if need a RCB.

    Come on you reds!
  • If Anderson is not working then Docherty will come on. Similarly Gilbert for Berry. Good options. Leaburn and Aneke is enough up front as options. If the defence performs we will get a result.

Pratley and REG playing, no Curry

    Jaiyesemi and Clare on bench
  • Yeah unchanged team sounds about right, Anderson deserves the respect to keep his spot after last week.

Same with Mannion at the moment now, even when Maynard-Brewer gets back fit again

Hasn’t been effective recently but his absence means we lack a bit of pace off the bench and possibly our only option to come on and play wider in an attacking role. He doesn’t go past people like TC and Small though so leaving him out to better balance the bench seems sensible. We don’t need 3 strikers on there.
  • Had forgotten Jaiyesimi is there to. 4 ex Addicks in their match day squad. That must guarantee them at least one goal, surely!?!

Clare was the one I forgot about
  • Bit more defensive with only 2 strikers on the bench....😀.  Would like to see more of Gilbert tbh.

Yeah, Hopefully Edwards may get the chance to give him a nice swift hello back...🙄
  • Anderson with his energy feels the right call for a game like this.

I suspect most of our fans won't have forgotten the foul on Edwards in the reverse fixture.

    Can rely on Edwards remembering...🤞
  • Hadn’t noticed before today, but, if I’m reading it correctly, the entire top 14 are all playing someone else from the top 14 today. None of the promotion and playoff pack have a game against a side in the bottom 10. Got to expect some dropped points in amongst that lot. In fact, Wycombe, Wrexham, and Bolton all doing so as things stand in the early kickoffs.
  • decent results in the early games if things stay like this
