Some fans think they should be able to pay the same price as those who had bought a season ticket before they knew what league we were in?
All it needed was for the club to state that prices would go up if we were promoted, either immediately of shortly after. It's genuinely that simple. Then there would be no debate, and no-one would be annoyed.
Instead they put out a statement about taking tickets off sale without any reference to why. Not only did they miss a sales opportunity by driving purchase before the final, but they impacted post win sales at the same time as pissing people off.
Loads of comments on here about "people should have guessed / it was obvious it would happen / people should have read between the lines". No they shouldn't, the club should have been transparent.
The fact that they weren't is why this debate is still going on, and why there are loads of examples of fans not now buying tickets because the club failed to communicate.
If we get promoted to the premiership season ticket prices will go up.
Before you are promoted, you can't say "if we get promoted, prices will go up"?
You evidently can, and it would be good business sense and good customer service to do so.3 -
The clubs comms have been poor over the play off ticket sales and arguably they could have made it blindingly clear that there would be a price hike after the deadline for st renewal and the extent of this price hike would be dependent on what division we would be in. Most people won’t need this level of communication but there are plenty who like to be offended even if on other peoples behalf and also need a reason to pin the lower than expected ST sales on. However, nobody has said that our prices are above our rivals so I assume they aren’t and so why are we moaning or expecting that the club should charge less in the hope that we can claw in sone less than committed fans ? How about adopting an attitude where you ask what u can do for the club rather than asking what they can do for you ? Theres always an excuse for some people and this has fallen right into those laps - ‘I’m offended by the increase’ - really ? On what basis ? That you didn’t know the going rate for championship football or because u thought charlton would be the cheap option ? If u want the cheap option there are still a lot of £375 tickets available. Get on board and support the club and we might just start going forwards and keep going forwards at last2

Is selling a season ticket really as important anymore as it used to be?
Football and society has changed considerably since our Premier League days, far less Saturday 3pm kick offs than there used to be, folk with less disposable income and also working habits the Monday - Friday 9-5 is a lot less than it used to be with flexible working now a lot bigger than it was in our last Premier League run.
So if a fan can only make 18 of the 23 games available but still goes to those 18 do they need a season ticket? Probably not unless they want to guarantee there seat of choice but so long as that fan still goes to those 18 games then that's what matters. Life has changed and fan habits have also changed and maybe the season ticket isn't as important as it once was. It's clear people pick and choose games when you see the stark contrast in crowds for the Crawley and Burton home games. Wouldn't surprise me if we find Preston on a Tuesday night in December at home pulls in a Crawley-like crowd but then Southampton at home on a Saturday in August potentially pulls in a sell-out.
It's the same with our away games, the more glamourous ones will sell out while Hull away midweek in January its fair to say anyone who wants a ticket will get one. To me it feels more like the changing habits of fans, society and the fixture list are bigger contributors to fans not buying a ST compared to a price increase.
Yes 10k is below where you'd like it to be, hopefully by kick off we can get 12k and look to to get 20k+ crowds back in5 -

A lot of sides are going to sell out the JS stand, so with our current ST sales that's already 14k. We will no doubt sell a few more ST's as we make more signings and the season gets closer.
I think our matchday sales will be quite high this year with a lot of people waiting to see what time the Saturday games actually kick off, 12.30, 3, 5.30 etc.0 -

Isn't a big chunk of having a season ticket the enhanced sense of belonging and familiarity, the people you're with and/or sitting close to, the 'same old' routine/gate/stewards/view of the game/queue at half time (lol)......... it is for me. I've done both, match and season tickets and feel much more at home and somehow have a better experience with the latter.
I count myself fortunate I can both afford the season ticket and am able to make it to most games no matter the day/time.
I realise the Sky schedules give quite short notice but..... for the argument....... let's say over the course of the season we're 'guaranteed' 9 home games on Saturday at 3pm (or whatever the number) ...... and so many on a Tuesday at 7:45pm etc. etc......... would it be feasible for the club......... and would supporters want it........ to sell/buy a mixed season ticket for the same seats for so many (not sure how many) Saturday 3pm/Tuesday 7:45pm etc........ and have the fans select the dates month by month when the Sky dates/cup matched etc. are known? Too complicated? OK, I'll get my hat and coat0 -
Of course everything depends on which days and which kick off times, but as Gavin Carter pointed out the other day going to Charlton is a bit of a favourite for away fans.
Next season will be the first opportunity in a number of years for away fans to visit the eighth wonder of the world and I expect the substantial majority of games will fill the Jimmy Seed.
Depending on how we are doing I think we will average 17 to 18 thousand next season.2 -

More away end sell-outs also means more restricted home matchday sales, which is another consideration.2 -
