Was chatting to an American family yesterday who left on Thursday and got half way here from Washington only to be turned around and all the way back to Washington. Fuming. Luckily BA got them back on a flight Friday evening.
And when they got here they were charged £25 a head for some rank fish and chips in a "traditional" English (West End) pub, £120 for a trip in one of those rickshaws (from Covent Garden to Leicester Square), had their card cloned in one of those dodgy Oxford Street shops and a pickpocket on the tube made off with the rest.
Hope they had a lovely time!
Don’t forget having their mobile pinched by a lad on an e bike
The complexity of what is commonly called 'the national grid' probably means there'll be some confusion there as to who is responsible for what, and plenty of opportunity for an internal blame game. (The ownership of National Grid plc is complex too, sitting behind the organisation's structure. The regulator, OFGEM, should, i think, be ensuring there's accountability being ownership and operations. OFGEM may not be interested.)
National Energy System Operator (NESO) may be the part that would be responsible for recovery and associated planning for outage incidents. However the infrastructure, i.e. substations are run by different parts of National Grid plc, the TNOs and DNOs, with a focus on the DNO (or 'independent DNO' for Heathrow?) likely to be on the spot for this outage. Definitions below from same website;
National Grid Plc
National Grid Plc is a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange and a constituent of the FTSE 100 index. The company was born out of the grid’s privatisation and is a stakeholder at various levels:
Grid Operator
National Energy System Operator (NESO).
Previously know as the National Grid Electricity System Operator
Operates and manages the real-time balancing of electricity supply and demand, ensuring grid stability and market operations.
Owns the Electricity National Control Centre (ENCC) in Wokingham, Berkshire.
Transmission Network Operators (TNOs)
Three TNOs (National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), Scottish Power Transmission, SSE Transmission)
Own and operate high-voltage transmission infrastructure in their respective regions, transporting electricity from generators to distribution networks run by DNOs.
Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)
Various DNOs (e.g., UK Power Networks, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, Northern Powergrid)
Own and operate regional distribution networks that deliver electricity from the national transmission system to independent sub-grid operators (IDNOs) and end-users.

One of them will have their phone snatched out of their hand by the time they go home by the bike boys too. Best city in the world.

Then after being knocked forward by the thief they will have tripped up on the uneven paving, stumbled forward and stepped in some dog mess left by a considerate owner.
Slightly off topic, but related to some comments - despite its challenges, London really is the best city in the world, and is regularly voted as such. No other city has the breadth of history, architecture, entertainment, sport stadia, economic clout, culinary expertise, positive diversity, infrastructure and shear variety of opportunity that London has.
I don’t live in London, let alone an inner city estate, but if only people that live in inner city estates are allowed to have a view on the wider city then I’m not sure we’ll get much insight.
Are you only allowed a view on how Charlton perform if you are one of the players?
Your user name suggests you’ll have plenty of suggestions for better cities 🙂.

Recently visited Reykjavík. Never saw a police officer all weekend, spotlessly clean and felt very safe. Hows that for an opener

Not great. Been there twice. Bored shitless both times.
blue lagoon was fun, and there’s the penis museum, alongside horrendously overpriced food and drink relative to other cities. There’s a church at the top of the hill and a rainbow painted street.

And don’t forget the tits, Fanny and Charlton in the south of the city

The state of that National Grid ownership structure…
There’s an arguable case for a major airport to be in private hands (although many reasons why a government should have atleast an active minority stake). But the National Grid? I’m surprised Thatcher’s goons didnt privatise the Armed Forces on reflection…

Prefer Rome to London but agree we are lucky to have such an amazing city on our doorstep. It’s all very English to just rip the shit out of it tho.

from https://uk.marketscreener.com/quote/stock/NATIONAL-GRID-PLC-9677124/company-shareholders/ .....These are the top owners of National Grid plc.. So we are relying on representatives from these holding their CEO and management team to account, and in line with OFGEM licensing and regulation.
BlackRock Investment Management (UK) Ltd.
And to be honest when they're on the 9s like they are currently, we don't really hear them anyways ha

Notting Hill Carnival alone puts some of those stabbing stats to shame.
