Ah, the old illogical “the window is shut so we can’t sign anyone”.RonnieMoore said:Wonder if Jones as taken the opportunity to get away for another week holiday … while this window is shut
Can’t see Jones having a break when we can line up deals to be announced when the window opens next week, more free agents who will officially join on 1st July, or work on deals that might go through at any point while the window is open.4 -

World class dribbler FFS. The other day he was described as a cheat code in league 1. What is wrong with Charlton fans?ElliotCAFC said:Like others have already said, you don’t measure Small’s impact with goals and assists - that will come later in his development as he’s only 20 years old.I don’t remember seeing a Charlton player as good at him at beating a man, CBT did it on raw pace alone but Small is arguably as fast as well as combining it with world class dribbling. We unearthed a gem and lost it within 18 months, not irreplaceable but you’d be a fool to think he’s not a massive loss.Anyway, back to transfer rumours…
His dribble success rate last season was 47.6% according to Opta data, slightly above average but nothing crazy.
He was "dispossessed" of the ball 1.5 times per 90 minutes, about the league average. And he won about 40% of his duels for the ball, again close to the league average.
If he couldn't beat his full back with pace and power he often struggled to come up with a different way to beat the man. I think for that reason he has a lot of work to do to step up to being a regular at Championship level where the average full back will be bigger, quicker and stronger.
I think TC also has the same tough challenge ahead of him.
TC looked great against most league one full backs but next year he will be coming up against players of the quality of Grimmer & Beccles every week (who he couldn’t get the better of at all).

I'd take that, they got 50 points this season so 80 points for us puts us definitely in the playoff and maybe near automatics. Roll on August I say.Braziliance said:
Bullseye! And that's why he went to Preston, they've been getting lucky for over a decade. Guarantee we finish higher than them by at least 30 points.Swisdom said:
Little Terry can do a lot of stepovers, has pace and power but that's pretty much where it ended. His football brain just wasn't there, his shooting and passing was poor and his heading ability laughable. Obviously his age plays a part in that but he isn't a million miles from CBT n that defenders will suss him out.MartinCAFC said:
Usually tend to agree with the vast majority of your posts and yes you’re right since December we were the 2nd form team.Swisdom said:Surprised at the "if we don't strengthen we will go down" comments
Since December we were the 2nd most in form team behind record breaking and big spending Birmingham in our division and we just set a record for the clean sheets in a season. So we clearly aren't shit.
Since then we lost Little Terry to Preston. Exciting talent but very replaceable
Obviously we need to strengthen to be more competitive but there really is no need for all the dramatics just yet. We have a new CEO who is known for excellent transfer dealings. A new head of recruitment who we all know can pull a rabbit from a hat.
In the immortal words of Russel Slade
Patience!Small though was a big part of that going out wide, he and TC complimented each other and worked well as a pair even if TC took the headlines and scored more goals.
Without Small teams doubled up on TC or we had to revert to an alternate setup which while was decent enough, we won’t cut it in The Championship, probably 50/50 to stay up as we are now but I’m confident as you say that patience will pay off and we’ll end up with a squad that can stay up.
Players like Small don’t come around often or easy though and he’ll be hard to replace as an attacking threat unless the club is willing to invest some money in a decent replacement commanding a fee or pay a decent loan wage. Either way a suitable replacement won’t be easy or come cheap. Will be a lot harder to replace Small than some may think.
We will look to replace him with a similar type of player but hopefully one with a better end product. Maybe not as quick but better on the ball.
Alright he could play a number of positions, ok he had pace, he was only 20 and had loads of potential, yes he was both footed, of course he could defend, he did have a good engine and yeah, he was one of our only attacking outlets, but, we can and will do better. This recruitment group has a plan. If the board didn't think he was worth it, that's that, we won't be held to ransom by players.
Come on Charlton!5 -
30 points more than PNE. Do me a favour.13

I rewatched the play off final a few days’ ago. Tyreece gave Beckles a lot to think about and did on several occasions get the better of him and other Orient defenders. Not least winning the free kick off REG that we scored from. It wasn’t one of his most explosive performances - but that was true for players on both sides across the pitch.Oh Eddie Youds... said:

It's a good point, people expecting Tyreece to excel in tight games where the opposition Manager has detailed his defenders to get 'stuck into Tyreece' early doors are probably not seeing the overall picture. As you rightly point out Weegie, the foul by Edmonds-Green brings the goal and if Edmonds- Green doesn't commit the foul, Tyreece is clear on goal. He will learn how to handle that type of marking.Weegie Addick said:

As well as they both played at times last season, they also only scored 9 goals and got 4 assists between them in 90 games. To put that in perspective, in the season before, Blackett-Taylor got 8 goals and 6 assists in 25 games in our worst ever team - he hasn’t done much in the championship since.Oh Eddie Youds... said:

3 was the total …. Which is pretty poor really given the amount of good positions he found himself inTodds_right_hook said:Charlton posted every Godden goal on insta yesterday. At least 3 were from small crosses.
he was frustrating to watch when he mis controlled a ball out for a throw or when he would cut in on the left and weakly shoot at the keeper
he was also a joy to watch when he beat three men with a flick and a burst of pace and strength
He is not the finished article and Preston will have some player if he develops
he was great on L1 but I’m not sure if he is what we need as a newly promoted club in the championship. I think we need a better defender and someone who doesn’t give possession away as much. Still a loss for us in my opinion2 -

Didn't Innis win this one year? He was a known nutcase but still great with young fans and helped Grannies cross the road and kittens out of trees!!JohnnyH2 said:
But not that much of a handful that he was selected as Community Player of the YearSwisdom said:
I’m not saying he was shit. But there were games he was completely anonymous. For every games he was excellent I could point out a game where he was a passenger. I know that can happen with young players but Nathan often saw fit to overlook him too so maybe, just maybe, he was a bit of a handful behind the scenes as well as on the pitchcfgs said:
I bow to your superior knowledge of the game, but hard to replace the excitement he bought in the 2nd leg of the playoff and other times.Swisdom said:

Ryan Innis did help elderly ladies across the road whether they wanted to cross or not.
I did hear he did a tackle on a tree similar to the red card that took that player into orbit; the tree snapped and the cat was saved and Ryan Innis won the community POTY but upset the Woodland trust.

I think TC looked exhausted or maybe even injured for the last 5/6 games but I could be wrong. I doubt he was just ‘found out’.16

He also won’t be up against as many teams sitting deep in numbers and putting 2/3 players on him, as teams will attack us more and push higher up the pitch.Danny Addick said:I think TC looked exhausted or maybe even injured for the last 5/6 games but I could be wrong. We should (I hope) sign a couple of strikers and hopefully get Leaburn fit, if so we’ll be able to rotate him more and keep him fresh. I agree he didn’t seem fully fit in the way he did when he had that run of scoring a few months ago.7 -

Let's not forget that the opposition had two and sometimes three players harassing TC. It's up to the other players to utilise the space this is creating.29

It's no surprise his apparent drop in productivity coincided with Berry and Small being out of the side in patchesStarinnaddick said:Let's not forget that the opposition had two and sometimes three players harassing TC. It's up to the other players to utilise the space this is creating.1 -
Ahadme will probably play for us in pre-season, as we will need to prove to potential suitors that he is fit to play.Think it will be a classic case of us having to drop our demands the later it goes in the window until it’s low enough for someone to take him with us paying at least half of his wages1

Is there any date when Leaburn will be back in training. Really hope he can get a full pre season in0

Agree. Unfortunately, he’s the one recent signing that’s absolutely bombed. I wish him well, but it would be good to get him moved on. He’s 40 but made 37, 23 and 17 appearances for West Ham in the last 3 seasons, so should be capable in the Championship.Lazza76 said:My sons friend is the analyst at Bromley and is a charlton fan and has heard fabianski is signing for Charlton

Genuinely never ceases to amaze me the utter shit football fans come out with - on both sides of the fence!
