Diagana may be worth a punt, still a free agent. May not have the perfect attitude and work rate but has got technical quality out on the wing which could suit the Apter role when getting forward and may have something to prove to West Brom he’s still capable at this level. No real other good free agents and when you have Walsall fans who reckon they can get 750k for a L2 wingback it shows the madness in today’s market

In the absence of rumours people discuss what we need/want what’s the problem

Burkes a weird one because from the outside it doesn’t look like a ‘bargain bin’ signing. The knowledge that he had severe injury record was there. The whole thing is so od
    So is your spelling.

Actually nothing odd about it. Just another member of the Nathan Jones mutual support group for Luton rejects.

Nathan Jones took such a pasting as manager at Stoke and Southampton that he has developed a siege mentality, stubborn and closed to advice from outsiders. "My way or the highway". He wants to surround himself with yes-men and is more comfortable with those who remind him of his glory years at Luton. This is such a common pattern with public figures, politicians, entertainers and military leaders it is easily recognizable.

Sometimes it works. Stalin got the job done. Hitler didn't. It has worked for Nathan Jones so far. Much as I would like to see us at least try to play football, I realize it could be very dangerous to change strategy now. I think we are stuck with it, at least until the end of the season. I do not think we will get relegated, and we do have a very remote chance of making top 6. Keep your fingers crossed!
Winner of the wiedest post I have ever seen, how did Hitler and Stalin get in a discussion about football, is beyond me.

Nathan did set a table tennis table ablaze allegedly but I have never thought of him in a triumvirate with Hitler, Stalin and Jones 😱

Not aimed at anyone in particular, but some of our fans talk like we are still a League 1 club.

Barely any of the youth are even good enough to make the bench on a matchday, and to be a stable championship side, you need options everywhere. Genuinely don't understand the comments about halting the progress of an individual player or being concerned about the squad being large. We are one injury away in every position from looking very light.

If a player comes in, and he dislodges someone in our starting XI, so be it, the primary aim is survival and to stabilise, not to make sure x player gets x amount of game time guaranteed.
FINALLY, can we please stop overestimating the youth all the time, it’s not fair on them. Not everyone is going to be a Gomez or a Doughty

And if we had that level of quality we would absolutely know about it because they’d be in the first team and looking as assured as any senior pro at this level.

We have some outstanding young players, who do need a pathway, which they very much have. However, the idea that we won’t bring in another club’s younger player on loan for the season, who despite would be a huge upgrade and impact our team, just in case they block they stop one of our own getting into some occasional matchday squads is completely flawed.

We have a fantastic academy, we really do. But we don’t have the best young players in the country, that part just isn’t the case.

We've already brought in 9 players, and have more or less spent our budget. We're not going to be buying players better than our current 1st 11, as we don't have the money for that.

Thus if you're scrabbling around for "backup" players, what are your options?
    1) Loan players, but the best ones require a hefty loan fee. And clubs won't loan us raw but decent youngsters just to be backup players.
    2) "Higher risk" overseas players like Fukada, who might take time to settle in
    3) Journeyman players, happy to be backup. Who might be excellent. Or might be just after a wage.

We are slightly short in defence, but have plenty of options in the rest of the squad. 5 strikers to fill 2 positions. 3 central attacking midfielders for the central 10 role.

Nobody is suggesting a bench full of kids, but when you have 9 places on the bench and can only make 5 subs, you don't need 9 senior pros on the bench.

Not an unreasonable question given title of thread  o:)

(a simple no would have answered the question)

There's a copy of that shirt on eBay at present only £30+. Its 3XL, so not much use to me (not mine to be clear). Always like that one before we started with FADS & Woolwich sponsorship on the front.
They sell them in the club shop still too, surprised it hasn't sold out like the other retro ones.

No chance …because Jones won’t drop Campbell and that would be where he would play

Funny you choose Doughty as example, because looking back he was on loan in the 7th tier in 18/19 and the 5th tier in 19/20 before showing he could play for the first team at Championship level in that same season.

You’re right we shouldn’t overestimate the youth, but we also shouldn’t write them off too soon.

Some have decided Zach Mitchell is L1 standard at best, whils forgetting how quickly players such as Doughty progressed.

Even first team players such as Lloyd Jones went from being seen as average L1 players to very good Championship players within a year or so. How players perform can change very quickly in football.
