Loaning out Karoy is a laughable suggestion, key part of how we hold onto games and excellent off the bench, suspect he'd be in every matchday squad next year providing he stays fit
We won at Wembley btw and are now a Championship side up against the likes of Sheffield United, Leicester, Norwich, Ipswich etc. Not Stevenage, Leyton Orient, Northampton and whoever else.
There is nothing laughable about the suggestion of a loan of a 20 year old who wasn't part of our starting XI in the league below.
But he was a big part of our first team squad.
You only have to look at Doughty's season for us last time in the Championship to see what a 20 year old can do in a higher league, and he hadn't played any first team minutes for us before then.
Karoy has a lot of experience compared so no reason why he can't be a great asset to our squad next season.
I think that's the difference for me. Doughty was an unknown entity, I've seen plenty of Karoy, I don't see how much can change in a couple of months and going up a level. I'd agree if we didn't get promoted.
I don't mind Karoy being on the bench as he's an honest player and I like him, but I think at this stage a loan would be better for him, or I can see him having a similar career to Lapslie where he's just used to see games out and doesn't find his feet.
A full season at a club like a Burton or a Northampton etc would be more beneficial to himself and us imo.
I couldn't disagree more with this. He has the game to be a top player and I think he will thrive in the Championship.
Seeing as we’ve already brought in Carey can’t see Cornick happening. Loves an old player but even Jones won’t be silly enough to push this one through

My contact has told me this is one we are pushing for. Read it as you will if it happens it happens but is one of our targets. Let’s hope if he does come in he can hit the ground running.
One of your only other comments on this forum is:
Don’t shoot the messenger hearing that jones could only be moving if he doesn’t get what was promised. According to my source the board are only offering a league one budget currently and of course if there is no ambition from the club I personally don’t blame him for walking. Oxford United had the lowest budget last year and spent 5 million in all my years of supporting Charlton I can’t remember spending near that. Serious questions ly with the board if you ask me wouldn’t judge any stories coming out when something deeper could be pushing the deal closer.
Filing you under wum.
Fair comment. But when I made this comment it was unclear whether Jones was staying conversations continued and he signed a new deal. Maybe because he sat down with the board they listened to his terms and his new contract was produced after listening to wage demands, budget etc . Surely if he had no interest in looking elsewhere it wouldn’t have been a story floating about for 2+ days. I also did say ‘don’t shoot the messenger’ it was a rumour but if you ask me things added up there.
So Jones signing a five year deal rather makes your story look a bit silly. By the way, 'don't shoot the messenger' sits firmly with 'in all honesty' as trying to make the reader think that your info is above board and not to be challenged. Either you enjoy peddling nonsense or your alleged 'in the know' is taking the piss out of you.
We will wait when the cornick story comes out, I’m sure you can dig me out if incorrect but I’d wait and see first if I were you.
I have some news not saying it’s done not saying how close I have been told we are in the market for Harry cornick there’s interest from both parties could be progressing very soon. I have heard he’s one of our main targets.
Hope not. Wasn't keen on him when we were being linked last year
Experienced in the championship had a strong campaign with Bristol city and a chance to reunite with familiar faces. Jones has proved before he can get the best out of him we could do worse. We have to remember we haven’t got the capability to go out and get a lot of championship quality at a high standard anyways.
If we don't sign championship quality players to add to what we already have then we'll go down.

Decent scoring record but I have watched a fairly large amount of Lithuanian football because I know a couple of players over there and it is a piss poor standard.
None of his goals are especially spectacular - he seems to be a "Johnny on the spot" type of striker which is probably why he appears to be so coveted. It is a highly sought after knack.
He has had a massive "glow-up" in the last 18 months judging by his ELO rating and he would currently be second to Matty Godden on that metric.
Can't imagine he would cost a lot so potentially a low-risk punt
Translation please.
ELO rating =
1) Wild West Hero 2) Last Train to London 3) Mr Blue Sky
Whereas the likes of Joe Ledley and Conor Wickham can be given the rating "Twilight"

Stop this 'Confusion' it's all 'Secret Messages' 'Is this the way life's meant to be'..............10538 Overture is still their best single though but I couldn't find a way to fit it in.

Hmmmm we will see. I technically never said he was going I said he was in talks with the board and he was waiting to see if he was gonna get the backing I never said he was leaving I said there could be interest as I was aware the budget wasn’t up to scratch for jones. Jones signing a new contract shows two things he is happy with the budget and wants to be in a position of security. So wouldn’t necessarily say there’s holes in my story. A lot can progress maybe take it as a positive he’s signed a deal despite what I knew . If I’m wrong about cornick you can personally come back and tell me I’m wrong but until then we wait.

Don't have to be from the Championship though Bob, Arguably two of our best players last season, Edwards and Ramsay came from, Scottish first division and our second tier, I'm not hearing too many posters declaring they won't be good enough for the Championship.

I don't see a problem with the Cornick story but I would be surprised that at most clubs a Manager did not have to ask the board to loosen the purse strings and if the board were dead set against it then I can't see why they offered a five year deal. As for Cornick, different clubs have got performances out of players we never rated, and Jones got it right with Berry but not with Allan Campbell. It depends what a player brings to the squad.

So says the man who wrote off last season before November was out.
I'm lazy, so don't take these as my thoughts, but here's some speculation on who would be good targets from The ChatGPT A.I.
Charlton Athletic, returning to the Championship with a small budget, will need to be smart in the transfer market—focusing on free agents, loans from Premier League and top Championship clubs, and undervalued talent from League One, League Two, or Europe. Here's a realistic and strategic shortlist across positions:

It must be using an old database @Dazzler21 as Liam Delap has had 2 permanent transfers since he left City, Vale has left Chelsea and May hasn’t been with us for a year either! And that’s just off the top of my head

So I was wrong, apologies that I posted an opinion.
I've now posted another opinion, so tell me do you think we'll stay up if we don't sign championship quality players ?
Seems a bit sad that you want to check back on a post I made 7 months ago, don't you have a life ?

Yeah that's why I prefaced it with I was being lazy, didn't want to go through the effort of checking every option. I corrected it on the ones I could then it suggested Jay Stansfield on loan from Fulham 🤣🤣🤣
I think karoy will come on for next season and be unreal!
Towards the end of the season, I thought he was excellent. So good at winning the ball in the final third. Jones loves a bit of high press, so I think he fits in well with his tactics. I hope he is in the squad for next season.

Putting together quite an impressive summer window. They'll find someway to not get promoted now.
Although doubt it'll stop us signing any free transfers, as they wont be able to join us until 1st July anyway

Nice to see we have Alfie May and even ChatGPT likes to suggest ex players to return (James Beadle)
