Las I heard they were offering £250k

i hope there’s a lot of clauses in there too
Surely they wouldn't have to "offer" anything. There is a defined compensation package under EPPP so they can "buy" him for whatever that is and we have no say whatsoever.

Shame, but once again out famous academy gets pillaged for its best talent due to the nonsense of a regulation bought in by Ged Roddy who for some reason we then employed.
  • Who knows if the lad will make it or not anyway. I remember when Man Utd poached that CB off us, never heard about him again.

I think you mean Sean McGinty who has spent his career touring lower league and Scottish clubs, now at Airdrie.
  • So us and QPR are both interested in Mbengue & Offiah. Sounds like we will both end up with one of them as I can't see us signing both.

Yeah we’ll see in time, it’s gone both ways with players who’ve made similar moves.

McGinty hasn’t had the career that would have been expected, neither has Timmy Abraham.

Sarmiento, Palmer, Beadle and Ramazani all seem to be doing well enough and would have surely broken into our first team had they stayed and attracted big offers.

We also have another two recent ones in Chizzy Ezenwata who’s been scoring goals in Chelsea’s academy, and Lescond Yeutembip who joined Newcastle nearly a year ago.

Probably means we’re seeing Ramsay being moved back to RWB now we’ve been linked with 2 wide centre backs opposed to any RWB’s at present
  • I hope there are no plans to move Ramsay to wing back. He didn’t offer that much going forwards when playing there, but was pretty untouchable at right centre back.
There’s no way we’d be looking to bring in Mbengue or Offiah as squad options and both are best suited to the rcb role so that’s probably what the plan is. Think it’s hard to judge Ramsay off 6 games at wingback when the whole game plan when he played there wasn’t to even use the wingbacks as well it was just hoof the ball to Ahadme or Aneke. This is the championship as well think the aim is to first be solid then hope the midfield and forward line can nick a few goals
  • If Nathan Jones had placed a value on Small, and it wasn't acceptable to Small, and any other club had come in with a higher bid he'd likely have left for the higher bid. I think we can do better.

Assume this is the source for the “deal agreed weeks ago” but could be QPR, Blackburn, Watford, Charlton or possibly (but unlikely) Preston.

eh? when you say value do you mean wages? if someone offers a player significantly more money, then its his choice what he does- he's out of contract after all, so its who makes the overall best offer for his services. Obviously NJ thought we could do better than Small, but Preston didn't think they could, or had the bigger budget and offered more.

Clubs do still pay for youth players in some cases though. Man City have just signed the 15 year old son of Danny Cadamarteri from Sheff Weds for a reported 1.5m, and Man U have signed a 16 year old centre back from Southampton.

Unfortunately that's football. If kids want to walk away from clubs like us and Southampton who have proven track records of promoting kids to the first team then so be it.
  • Harry Toffolo released by Notts Forest …. Was a very good player when he was at Lincoln where we were interested in him , he ended up at Huddersfield..

He's 30 soon and i'd imagine his wages will be too high for us. He'll probably get a move to a top 6 championship club.
  • Hearing we might have Liam Thompson, could be old news...
Someone mentioned him on here before.

He’s out of contract at Derby but they’ve offered a new deal. He’s 23 so we’d have to pay compensation. Central midfielder but sounds like he’s versatile, covered in other positions including wing back.

    what post?
Near the end of the previous page in this thread.
  • I just saw a post on Facebook that we'd signed a Derby player called Liam. Came on here to check as the window is closed, and when I went back, the post had gone. Price £1.4m plus add ons.
Gotta be honest, it seems like a prank.

Was on FBook so probably a wind up, good signing though if true.

Fair enough, I can o lying assume Cadamateri demanded higher compensation was paid as Man City wouldn't pay more than they need to understand the law, despite them being minted.
