Thought Costello was another player who struggles with injuries, check out Blackburns forums and a few bits on twitter and it seems to be the case
This is a bit hard to ignore. If we sign him, that's 3 players on the spin who have had injury issues, and whose fan base are happy to see them off the wage bill.
We signed Kaminski and you hear fans say he was never gonna play league 1, we sign Tanto and the overwhelming majority of Stockport fans appear gutted.
Never like it when you hear "good to get off the wages" "if they can keep him fit" etc. People will of course say Yann or whatever other example, but that's 3 players in a row. Cody Drameh sounded a bit more promising.
Well according to Transfermarkt he wasn't out of the squad due to injury for the whole of last season, and only missed out on games due to not being selected for tactical reasons (in the same way there were parts of last season where A.Mitchell didn't make our squad)
I think "injury prone" is a word bandied about far too much anyway, Aneke was injury prone, someone making 30 appearances in one season isn't

Ipswich fans thought they’d had our pants down at the time when we signed Darren Bent. I’m happy to put my trust in NJ to get it right, he’s earned that. Sure one of the last three could turn out to be a disaster but you can’t get them all right, no one does.

Based on the Blackburn fan reviews Costello doesn’t sound like one to get too excited about. Although he’s played in the championship he sounds like a a step down from Galbraith in terms of quality, potential & injury record.
i wonder if Charlton just wish they gave Thierry a little bit more money now….in light of the difficulty/cost in finding a good RWB replacement.

Iv seen plenty of Blackburn fans on X say he’s decent but happy to get 1m, Nixon saying 750k but hopefully that’s with add ons etc, think he’s got a good pedigree and a decent height. 30 appearances last season for a decent Blackburn team.
Joe Rankin-Costello started off in the Manchester United academy before switching to the Blackburn Rover academy where he's been every since. Has mainly played as a right or left back and has 115 apps since making his debut in 19/20 season. 29 apps last season so hopefully at 25 years old he is now battle hardened.
Rankin-Costello did have interest from a big money club from west London as a teenager but made it clear "I don't want to go to Chelsea"
Good age at 25, good height at 6ft and to say he’s versatile would be an understatement.
* and a goal and assist when they beat Millwall 4-3 to knock them out the play offs. I’m sold
Interesting stats - where did you get this graphic ??? Just thinking about Jones’s style of high energy pressing football - this versatile championship young physical player fits the bill. I’d imagine in this league he would have to use all five subs to maintain that level of intensity. Makes it a strong rumour imo
I like him but he’s not going to fit in Ismael’s system. He was great 2 seasons ago for us under Jon Dahl Tomasson. Bit of a utility player. Wears his heart on his sleeve, likes a tackle and gets forward if given the freedom. All action type who can play down the right or in midfield. Was easily worth a couple of million two seasons ago but has lost his place and his way a bit.
A lot of momentum building around the Costello rumour
I wouldn’t say momentum is building, they’re just repeating what Nixon has said. They even give credit to him instead of passing it off as coming from their own source.

Sounds like JRC is talented but not reached his potential. We know Jones can improve players to get that out of them. If it happens it’ll be interesting to see what the plan is for him, settling into one position and making it his own could be exactly what he needs.
I love what Nathan has achieved at our club & I respect him. Costello runs a lot which is great but I think we need a bit of pedigree especially in midfield. That’s difficult with our budget & who we’re up against. I’m guessing players that have a past fitness issue makes it easier for us to compete for their signature.
Just a thought - If NJ does end up at say Cardiff in a few years, their fans might not know it yet, but a lot of our current squad are essentially their starting XI

He’s never played below championship level I think that would be pedigree enough
