I know we’ve flirted with it this pre-season but I can’t see us going 3-4-2-1. I think that will be an option that is used this season, but Plan A will still be 3-5-2, with Apter out on the right in the Small role
Apter is not a defender in any way. He will play last year's TC role

Not if his position in friendlies is anything to go by, he’s only played the Small attacking RWB role so far.
Ahadme leaving is a real bonus - I thought we would have to take a hit on the wages and loan him out for at least this season. As much as he’s an honest pro, i genuinely couldn’t care less whether or not he goes on to have a decent career. Sick of seeing crap-mediocre players over the last 5/6 years and he’s very much up there with the Gilbey’s etc
Is he expected to leave on a permanent?
We could well still be taking a hit on his wages if it’s a loan to Bolton.
Perhaps a free transfer may be to all parties interest?

I’m guessing you haven’t tuned into any of our pre-season games? Where Apter has played on the right in the role Small played last year
We lost a player with the ability to take players on and get us up the pitch. We’ve replaced with a player who can do that and hopefully add the finishing touch. That role isn’t a defender anyway, like when Small played it, it’s probably closer to a right midfielder (where Apter played for Blackpool) than Right wing back
Ahadme would get 30 goals in that Bolton side. Beats me why they haven’t wrapped the deal up already before another team jumps in ahead of them.
Also, if I had to take a really wild guess, it wouldn’t surprise me if someone were to say Nathan had said to Johnnie Jackson the other night he would let him go to Wimbledon. When you zoom in on Johnnie the expression on his face certainly looks like he was giving what must have been an out of left-field comment by Nathan some thought and they probably don’t come more left-field than that given what we had paid for him and what his wages must be.
Unusual fact about the boot in the pic.
It was worn by Prince William when he trained with Curbs side.
But Jason Morgan told us that it was one of Mark Fish's boots that the future King borrowed.
Jason had been told by the minders that Wills wouldn't do any football or training but the prince joined in anyway.

Given we are likely to be under a lot more pressure this season than last, whoever is at RWB will need to do a fair amount of defending. Remember Small was a defender we pushed further up the pitch. It won't be Apter. It will be more like Edwards on the other side, a defender who can go forward. I think the tendency here is to try to get all the new players into the first 11. I see it as a 20 man matchday squad (9 subs remember) with few playing 90 minutes apart from the back 4 ( back 3+goalie) and maybe Coventry

In some games we will need a more defensive option (which it looks like we are trying to bring in) and then Apter can be used further forward. But I would expect the majority of games to see Apter in that role, like he is playing it in pre-season
Is this the most we’ve ever spent in a transfer window? Or do the PL days beat it
We had that window under Dowie where we spent a lot... On shit
Couple of legends at bargain prices what you talking about
Jesus . Two of the worst players ever to put the shirt on . Dowie should have been locked up !
I will never understand giving Dowie more money in one summer than Curbs had had combined pretty much.
Didn't Curbs see Murray after that window, and jokingly complain that he never got given those sort of funds?
They were all crap apart from Carson too, and yes I include the perennially unfit and overweight, albeit very talented Andy Reid in that
Andy Reid was most certainly not crap. Wonderful footballer. Gets in pretty much any charlton team over the past 20 years.
He was hugely overweight in the premier league and hardly played. Good in the championship until he wanted to move in January. Talented, yes .
This is probably not helping the discussion, but, yes Dowie was a shit manager, but remember Richard Murray's role in all of this. Richard Murray brought someone in to pick the incoming players and deal with the transfers, Billy Davies turned down the Charlton manager position because of this set up, and that set up didn't change under Dowie, it rather suits a certain individual to lay all the blame at Dowie's door, especially when he was the one who employed him, much to the annoyance and against the advice of fellow directors.
Strongly hinted by Murray that George Graham had applied for the job, that would have been a good appointment.
We should have kept Dowie as he was slowly turning things around.
I tried making two different line ups of our depth for when we are in attack (and including Knibbs who is sounding more and more likely)
This looks so much healthier than it did just 2 months ago, and I am not even sure if we are stopping there.
It's at a point where it it hard to pick a forward line and only a few players are guaranteed starters. What a beautiful headache to have for Nathan Jones.
Just to clarify, those aren't actual starting XI's, they're to demonstrate our squad depth, that's why I specifically said "in attack" to show what two teams we could field if we were throwing the sink at a team..
It doesn't look as exciting showing ten defenders when the bulk of our money has gone on attackers.

Great to have much better depth on paper. We should be able to bring on multiple attacking threats off the bench without weakening the team.
We should have kept Dowie as he was slowly turning things around.
