Fukuda and a hard as nails proven championship centre back please. Tonight also showed the flaw in sending Asiimwe out on loan before filling that particular gap
If we hadn’t sent him out then he wouldn’t have been able to hit the ground running like he has (also could have missed out completely on a league 1 move which is what he needed). It works both ways
Which is why I think Kanu has ended up in L2
Kanu seems a bit of an odd one, given his comments when joining Walsall about having been in conversation with Mat Sadler a lot of the summer, and it taking time for the deal to happen. So seems like that one was always lined up. Like you say though, I'd have expected him to join a League One team in all honesty.

Wonder if it might be a similar scenario with other youngsters, where moves are possibly lined up, and the other clubs are waiting for the Green light from us, whilst looking for alt. options in case we never give approval for the loan in the first place.

I think it was right to loan out Asiimwe when we did, but I didn't understand Hobden starting tonight - I mentioned in the match thread maybe it was a test to see how he handled the step up.

We could have gone with Rylah or Enslin, it's not as if we didn't have options there. For me they're both more likely to make an impact on the first team than Hobden.
  • I get it might have hampered his loan to AFCW, but if we don't sign a RWB in the next 5 days all it's really done is hamper the club.

We have Costello who has played loads as a wing back in the championship, and we are obviously trying to sign another one. It really isn’t a massive problem

In the long term, it benefits us because after a year of league 1 (or maybe even 6 months) Asiimwe is hopefully ready for the championship. If we’d delayed, Wimbledon would have definitely signed someone else as they desperately needed a RWB for their opening game, then maybe Asiimwe is playing league 2 until January and wasting months of development
  • Thankfully this has happened now and shows we do need more depth and quality at the back. 5 days is plenty of time to go out and find 1-2 players
  • Hector is still available.
  • NJ now bemoans lack of cover in defence, after signing a player with a very well known injury record, who then plays a part in the 1st pre season game, and gets injured badly enough that he's missed the 1st month of the season.

The Burke singing is a little daft imho. He may have quality, but he's crocked.

Meanwhile we send Asiimwe and A Mitchell on loan. I thought we were working to a plan but NJ’s comments tonight are odd.
  • I think tonight showed some serious weakness in our depth. We have no realistic Cov replacement, need someone who can effect the game from deep central like him, full backs also are an issue, no Edwards or apter we look toothless, centre backs minus the starting 3 and macca we no longer have strong option of the bench like A Mitchell, I don’t expect Burke to play much.. Nothing to say about the forwards we’ve spent big, jones will either be vindicated or fall on his sword with those signings.

Hopefully thw budget is there to address the issues
