More crap from one of the clickbait sites. We are buying a midfielder from Oxford for £900000 they haven’t named the player. Apparently he is having a medical over the weekend.
I wouldn’t rule out us paying £1m+ for the right player. We must have spent around that on fees in L1, and we get about £11m in TV money compared to around £2m in L1.
I think there's definitely money to spend for the right players but I expect NJ and Chapple to be quite particular about anyone that comes in for a significant fee
If Galbraith is available at £1.75m for example I could see that happening. Was Igor really our last £2m+ signing?
Even if we were willing and able to match the fee we would be up against clubs that could offer much bigger wages and perhaps more immediate success. Aren’t Sheffield Utd supposed to be looking at him ? Every chance that they will be right up there again and perhaps even by this time next year be in The Premier League. We can’t compete with them on any sensible level.

It’s the wages that are the killers. Fees are doable.
For example, an offer of £1.75m is accepted. But WBA, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Watford, Swansea and Norwich City also all have their offer accepted. It’s then about the contract. Likes of Middlesbrough are able to commit to a 3 year contract worth £2-2.5m, maybe more. So the whole package becomes a c£5m commitment, albeit over 3 years. Other signings will want similar, so say another 3 similar signings is a c£6.5 commitment every season in all. That’s four players eating up most of the extra tv money in one go, before you even factor in wage increases & bonuses for the current squad & staff.
This is why I think most of the money will be used for wages, rather than fees. As that is the most competitive market. A commitment to just wages of £2m over 3 years means for four new players would be a commitment of c£2.6m a year. Far more manageable / realistic.
Doesn't make any sense. Says the 24 year old midfielder contributed goals and assists during their league 1 play off run last year. Almost sounds a year out of date.
What an absolutely unreadable site that is. Those pop ups are horrendous. The article sounds like it was written by AI without anyone giving a proof read too. How could the signing contribute to Oxford’s League One campaign last season with them in the Champ? And we signed Carey from a League One club not a Champ club. Reads like click bait bollocks to me
I thought I read some time ago that our owners don’t really have that much money, or their money is tied up in some way and not available to chuck around. Thats why a no transfer fee signing, and getting an earner off the books makes sense. I wonder if there is extra wages attached to the Nathan Jones extended contract, or if the extension was the attractive bit for Jones, not a wage increase.
They had enough money to cover a £13m loss in 23/24 and an estimated £9m in 24/25.
Are we going to spend like Brum or Wrexham? No, but I don't think we'll be on a Duchatelet budget either.
If we were really penny pinching I doubt Jones would have signed a new deal or even have been offered one
Been to some Oxford games this season due to girlfriend being a U’s fan. I would be shocked if we went in for el Mizouni for £900,000. To be honest, when he came on for them he looked well below standard and seemed to struggle to do the basics at champ level. All that being said the article looks like absolute rubbish so I don’t think there’s much point speculating over him anymore. As for Famewo, would love him back in a Charlton shirt. He’s a different player to gillesphey as we know, he’s got strength, pace and would bring really valuable competition with gillesphey. Especially on a free, I don’t see what’s wrong with this deal…

There's only 1 24yr old CAM at Oxford and its El Mizouni the kid who was at Ipswich

If it’s Brannagan- which I doubt - then that’s a bargain

Good luck navigating the site to read it.

Only Idris El Mizouni fits the brief I think.
