Last day of the regular season brings Burton to the Valley. The visitors have secured their stint in League One for next year and the Addicks have already claimed a place in the playoffs; all that remains is to determine who plays whom for the chance at promotion.
Charlton started brightly but it was Burton that struck first. Against the run of play, Burton were awarded a penalty when Alex Mitchell fumbled a backpass and Ashely Maynard-Brewer brought down the Burton player in the box. On twelve and a half minutes Charlton were 0-1 down.
But that lead only lasted about ten minutes. It was Matty Godden again, when Alex Mitchell’s timely tackle resulted in a counterattack that ended with Godden rounding the keeper and scoring from a difficult angle. Not content, Godden scored his second, masterfully turning his defender on the edge of the box and finishing with his left foot past the keeper.
The third goal came early in the second half through Alex Mitchell himself, heading home from a Conor Coventry cross. His redemption for his earlier mistake was then complete. A full debut for Ibrahim Fullah and a handful of further subs meant that Charlton finished out the match with a handful of young academy prospects. Fullah came close on a couple of occasions to scoring on his debut, with one rifled off the crossbar/post.
Elsewhere, Wycombe took an early lead over Stockport but it was Stockport that struck twice in quick succession in the second half to claim third. Leyton Orient claim the final place in the playoffs and look to face Stockport if my calculations are correct. Wycombe have fallen apart int he crucial final stages of the season, with three straight losses, and won’t relish facing the Addicks on the road to Wembley. Hopefully, Charlton will capitalise on that.

The guns fire off one salvo... distant cheers can be heard from the shore
Because Burton Albion... You've been SUNK!!
However the Captain of HMS Reach the Play-Offs only allows for a small smile, because he knows the real battle is about to begin!!42 -
4th spot from where we were in December. Impressive and everyone at the club should be proud of the achievement. Onto the playoffs, can't wait.Good game today, showed the character of the team. Mitchell made up for his mistakes and Burton didn't give much after the 2nd goal went in.61

Is my hearing going, or did the Sky commentator say the 1998 playoff was sealed by a CARL Mendonca hattrick?2

Anyone noticeably absent from the end of season presentations?0

Both our result and the Stockport result turned out perfect.

To have claimed 4th is amazing given the run we’ve had to string together to finish the season. Have we got enough left through?
We’ve got a good route to promotion here if we can get the weary and wounded back, keep focused and on the front foot.

Chuffed for Mitchell
obviously a popular player25 -
Given how miserable things have been over the past decade 4th in League One is a really good finish, especially considering how much we've had to build back up and how many new players and ideas we've had to bed in. The run we've been on since December has been absolutely incredible and if not for a very ropey November I think we would have been celebrating automatic promotion today. If anything I'm actually glad we lost to Wrexham because this was the first game of the season I didn't really worry about and it would have been a much more sickening blow to win that, win today and still fall just short. We got to enjoy it a bit more today and celebrate the result without any caveats. No matter what happens in the Playoffs this season has shown huge progress, and even if it doesn't end up being a 'good' season by the end of May it will still be something to build on, which I don't think is something we've felt like we've had since 2012. On to Wycombe now.31

Hard lines on Wycombe not being able now to surpass Huddersfield's "Continuous Run"..... those powerful Powell times recalled!1

Hoping Small, Berry & Jones are fit for next weekend! Good day out with the pressure off13

Good performance & deservedly won. Burton would have had no complaints if we had scored 6.
Good to see some of the youngsters getting a run out. Would have done then good being in front of a bumper 20k crowd.
Now onto next week.25 -
Good last day performance.
Nervous now, in a good way.1 -
Bah, Sky cut feed just as @GlassHalfFull gets wheeled onto the pitch5

Had a cracking day, other than going 1 0 down, an easy win.

Great result to get 4th place.
Hopefully we can put out our strongest squad and get past Wycombe over the two matches and then see what happens at Wembley.

Was Small there?1

Our play-off hopes rely on people coming back from Injury.
Luckily we're playing Wycombe first who seem to be in a bit of a free-fall at the moment. But can imagine they'll be a tough test regardless.1 -

really enjoyed the second half. we looked comfortable. there was no fear in me as this match was just a warm up. was actually really nice not to have any tension alongside a charlton match. shame the fear, tension and anxiety all starts again next weekend. i guess that's why we love/hate this beautiful game.3

4th from where we were is a brilliant turnaround. Happy days!11
