On the atmosphere. I've supported Charlton for 35 years or so. Last night felt different.
That could be because of the many years of utter dross we've suffered in the recent past, but the air crackled with something I haven't felt personally before.
I think there's a togetherness about the manager, players and fans that hasn't been around for a while, and that might be what feels different. It feels to me like the old Charlton with something extra that reflects the end of the fractious period of mis management and fan protests maybe?
Watched the extended highlights back on sky when I got in last night and there were multiple comments from the commentary team about how good the atmosphere was, how loud it was when we scored etc. It's always hard to tell from the Covered End upper, as it was deafening, but that definitely came across to the neutrals and the telly.
Godden's comments about the atmosphere in his post match interview as well, really proved how much of a difference we can make as a fanbase.
To try and be dispassionate about the atmosphere, up until the goal it was decent but nothing unusual.
Once the goal went in, it went off the scale.
I think that's underplaying it. There were a few relatively brief lulls but I'd say the crowd were much louder than usual from start to finish. Key to this was the AC (where I sit) and West were making at least their own fair share of racket whereas it's usually 90% the Covered End.
Although not very active, the threat of TC (and TS) kept their defence quite deep. Clare won't be looking forward to the match-up.
I think Mannion had both of Ramsay's blocks covered.
Defence was superb to a man.
Chuks seemed more mobile than recently; could we squeeze him into the starting lineup somehow?
absolutely not - Berry starts for me if fit in the reliable XI since xmas
Disagree. Never been convinced by Berry and would pick Gilbert over him, especially in Wembley open spaces for 45 at least. But I think Aneke would scare the bejesus out of REG and other Orient CBs. Could Godden play 10 and move upfront when Chuks comes deep? They both have the experience to make it work.
Not the greatest game but strangely enjoyed it nonetheless.
Atmosphere was unbelievable and when we scored, I thought the roof was going to come off.
I'm trying to show some humility here and I'll probably get caned for this, but what I will say from my vantage point in lower AC (not my usual seat) is that the Wycombe fans were excellent in terms of their singing and getting behind their team pretty much throughout and that they certainly played their part in 'adding' to the atmosphere. That's what you want in a game of football and whilst you're not going to get it at every game, my God, it makes nights like that all the more special. One I won't forget in a long time.
On to Wembley.
Totally agree Wycombe support was outstanding, constant noise from start to finish. One of the best away supports iv seen at the valley. Yes, for them this was a real “one off” , where as for us we get the occasional big game. They certainly played their part in generating the atmosphere, and stayed to very death.
Shame, we have such complete Dickheads who felt the need to jump up and down in front of them, and throw things in their section. Lads, it wasn’t big and it wasn’t clever, no it didn’t make you look hard…. It made you look pathetic little wankers…. I look forward to the same individuals giving it some down the Den next season. In fact I will look after your coats, as you go for it……..

Certainly a lot more noise than most of the other play off games I've watched over the past week or so. Stockport especially was quiet. As was Wycombe's home support. Sheff U slightly different as they were 3-0 up so were almost home & hosed before the ball was kicked.

No, playing both literally means having to change shape of the team. All we need is Berry in for Gilbert.
Aneke has a role to play at Wembley and it’s coming off the bench.

Did you not receive the memo.
Chuks is not to start a match. He is only to be used as a substitute. Anything else will lead to malfunction & the manufacturers will not be liable.
If he breaks down, not our problem anymore. Give him a stage for a contract somewhere.
Other observations;
Gilbert's dead ball delivery was not poor, they were just bigger than us for balls in the air.
Final has VAR, it would have served us well in last few games with poor decisions going against us.
Likely to be warm at Wembley like our last two appearances. I think our superior fitness and physical management will play a part.
We need to draw a line under our lsst terrible opponent and cut out the head tennis.
Id rather start Gilbert too as he's more involved imo but let's not deny his set pieces weren't upto his usual standards last night I was at the game it was nothing to do with the height of their players when he drove a couple crosses straight out of the pitch with no one near them.
It will be interesting who makes the bench for Wembley.
I doubt NJ will be sentimental towards anyone such as Hylton given he is so ‘invested’ shall we say. But seems to me a lot to play for in training this week for some of the squad and youth particularly.
But better than lobs from Berry that take an age to come down and are easy to defend.
What so crosses that no one can get on are better than ones that you can get near sorry no, but gilberts corners and free kicks before that are better than Berry's..
Last night really was why following football is so wonderful. The atmosphere before, during and after. The build up. The effort of the players. The tribalism. The joy of winning.
From a personal point of view I am lucky that I am currently in the middle of 3 generations of my family who go, we got a wonderful selfie after the game of all of us.
For the kids it was their first real experience of Charlton success that they remember. My boy ran on the pitch in time to congratulate and hug 5 players and in the way home declared it the best day of his life. My girl immediately said she would be skipping her cub camp to go to Wembley, and my nephew celebrated the goal by kissing the badge on his Charlton top and, overcome with emotion, shedding a tear.
A memorable evening. My hope was to head to Wembley with them all so I was way more nervous last night than I will be on the 25th.

I was surprised Mbick was on the bench over Hylton last night. I think Mbick is probably the better player but if we were battling to hold onto a lead in the last 10 mins of extra time and needed someone to be a shithouse then Hylton is perfect. Similarly for pens I'd want the experience of Hylton taking one over Mbick.
Ive been getting goosebumps & something in my eye, each time im watching all these videos, player photos & interviews from last night, literally all day, biased or not but us fans are just something else, everywhere we go we make noise like it seems that no one else can, it’s just pure emotion & elation from all the crap we have had to endure with all the behind the scenes stuff, that we just don’t have any control over,,I’m soooo proud to stand (or sit) & be amongst you,my fellow proud Addicks, thick or thin,no matter what happens next week ,we have once again got OUR Charlton back, long may it continue…!!!

Can't agree with that at all. I've been in the west stand all season, the whole stand was singing and clapping throughout. The covered end was leading the whole ground. There has been nothing like that all season, at times it was deafening.

I was in the East Block F and there was lots noise, clapping and singing. Again led by the Covered End.

How many has Gilbert scored?
Or, maybe, you don't think goals are that important for an attacking midfielder?
In which case, Frank Lampard was the worst attacking midfielder in history...

I said on that match thread that I was hoping for a HT sub, Pearce on as caretaker for Jones.
Shows I know bugger all!
I'm sorry Nathan!
now Cmon NJ’s ❤️🤍 Army let’s fookin have it…🙏🏻🤞🏻
