It will be interesting who makes the bench for Wembley.
I doubt NJ will be sentimental towards anyone such as Hylton given he is so ‘invested’ shall we say. But seems to me a lot to play for in training this week for some of the squad and youth particularly.
I was surprised Mbick was on the bench over Hylton last night. I think Mbick is probably the better player but if we were battling to hold onto a lead in the last 10 mins of extra time and needed someone to be a shithouse then Hylton is perfect. Similarly for pens I'd want the experience of Hylton taking one over Mbick.
I expect Mbick to be in with a shout.
I think it’s a case of fitness to potentially accommodate extra time.
I’d only expect Hylton if named to come on towards the end of ET.
I think Hylton may well get on the bench but not sure if will be Kanu and Mbick alongside Aneke.
What a great night to be at a full and vibrant Valley. The atmosphere was superb - it made me proud to be a Charlton supporter and no one there is likely to forget it. Hopefully it will encourage some of the first timers or occasional fans to come back, as well as binding impressionable youngsters to the cause. Championship football will obviously help if we can prevail on Sunday week.
As expected, the game itself was scrappy and tense but we had the better of it and most certainly deserved to go through. Jones, Gillesphey and Ramsey were, as usual, outstanding at the back, restricting Wycombe to just a couple of efforts, whilst Small and Godden also excelled. Our midfield was generally unable to get the ball down and there was little evidence of much combination play, save for a few nice passes from Gilbert in the first half. Our players lacked composure and wanted to get rid of the ball as soon as they received it. The result was that we had to go long more often than was advisable against Wycombe's large and robust defenders, with predictable results. To compound matters, the highly effective Grimmer won his duel with Tyreece Cambell, thereby negating one of our main attacking threats. Fortunately, Small was doing the business on the other flank.
No matter, though, the team's resilience and will to win came through and yet another late goal saw us on our way to Wembley. Once we got our noses in front, I felt the result was never in doubt.
The Orient game should be a great occasion and it could see Wembley draw level with now non-league Carlisle as a ground where we have achieved three promotions since 1981.
The Ref made me laugh he was edging towards the tunnel and blew for full time as Wycombe defender cleared the ball upfield when he was about five yards from the tunnel and he sprinted off.
Similar story follows. May 1990, last game of the season, WHU v Wolves and Liam Brady's final game before retiring. I was 4th match official.
Liam Brady scored one and WHU won 4-0, the last goal being on the stroke of 90 mins. Steve Bull (Wolves), at the restart of the game, kicked the ball straight into row Z of the main stand, at the behest of the referee. All players made a mad rush for the pitch exit as fans rushed onto the pitch. The linesman at the far side got swamped by jubilent WHU fans!
Not the greatest game but strangely enjoyed it nonetheless.
Atmosphere was unbelievable and when we scored, I thought the roof was going to come off.
I'm trying to show some humility here and I'll probably get caned for this, but what I will say from my vantage point in lower AC (not my usual seat) is that the Wycombe fans were excellent in terms of their singing and getting behind their team pretty much throughout and that they certainly played their part in 'adding' to the atmosphere. That's what you want in a game of football and whilst you're not going to get it at every game, my God, it makes nights like that all the more special. One I won't forget in a long time.
On to Wembley.
Totally agree Wycombe support was outstanding, constant noise from start to finish. One of the best away supports iv seen at the valley. Yes, for them this was a real “one off” , where as for us we get the occasional big game. They certainly played their part in generating the atmosphere, and stayed to very death.
Shame, we have such complete Dickheads who felt the need to jump up and down in front of them, and throw things in their section. Lads, it wasn’t big and it wasn’t clever, no it didn’t make you look hard…. It made you look pathetic little wankers…. I look forward to the same individuals giving it some down the Den next season. In fact I will look after your coats, as you go for it……..
They have had an FA Cup semi final and a League Cup semi final this century. We haven't had one since 1947.
Fantastic. What a night! Didn't get back until 130am yesterday morning, then up again at 6 for work, felt like a week crammed into 1 day yesterday. With little to no sleep.
Woke up this morning feeling fine tho.
I thought we was the better team and just about deserved to get through to a final.
Back 4 was immense seriously good. I thought Coventry was motm. He really is a fantastic player and I wouldn't of argued against him for pots.

Agreed , I thought they were brilliant “Chairboys” and sitting in the middle of west stand they were louder than us for quite a bit
I could barely hear a peep out of them all game from the NW but I guess that is testament to our noise rather than their lack of
find all the stick they’re getting and our fans bitching and arguing with them online very cringe and lacking self awareness; yes, they have a very small support, shit ground and on the face of it poor home and away turnouts for the semi is not great - but they’re a small town, small club that’s the reality. If anything given the status we rank ourselves as, we should be giving ourselves stick that we’re competing at the same level as them (and many other equivalents) for so long. Giving it large cos we suddenly have a load of exiled fans turning up the last couple of weeks is a bit cringe when we had a 30% full stadium for various games mid season.
On NJ at full-time, his reaction is purely human. He is a person who lives for this. He is 100% all in at Charlton. I firmly believe, that right now, there isn't a single fan that feels the joy of the win last night, more that NJ.
A lot is said about whether people like him. The sky commentator said to him post match, they are all singing your name, to which he promptly retorted, that they were wanting him sacked in November. He quickly explains that a season isnt won or lost in January, it is at the end if the season that it all matters. He went in to speak of his faith in God and how at full time, he dropped to his knees and was thanking God.
I say let him be eccentric and odd. I would rather him with his overblown passion, than 'Mr I keep my hands in my pockets' looking like he's at a funeral on the touchline.
As for other fans being sniffy about the scenes at full-time, well any fan who has been through it with their club, will get the emotions and why the celebrations were so OTT. This club might not have won anything yet this season, but it has gone a long way to winning back the hearts of many a fan that had got disillusioned by the decline and lack of care from owners and managers for too many years.
I can understand his frustration at some of the reaction back in November, but I hope he understands that it was more out of despair on our part that it looked like nothing had changed again and we were back to square one with regards to how the season was panning out.
I think that since he was his appointed, 98% of our fanbase (myself included), recognised this was a proper appointment, of far greater calibre than Appleton, Holden, Garner and not as past it as Adkins turned out to be.
I think that the combination of the last few years plus the hope we had in him and poor run meant that he started to see some unrest, and hopefully hasn't collectively bucketed us all in the 'we wanted him out camp'
I distinctly remember a post I wrote calling out that he was the big difference this season compared to the dross we had in the hot seat before, and yes, it could've gone very wrong, and even come Jan I was still expecting the run to come to a crashing halt, but hats off to him, he's really shown his class, experience and skill.
I also think his edginess is a bit about proving a point after Soton and Stoke. I think he took a lot of stick for even taking/been given the Soton job as they were in the Prem at the time and it was unexpected, and he has since carried a chip on his shoulder (rightly/wrongly - I don't care).
He's very much our man now, and he's very much a man the squad look up to, and whatever happens Sunday week, we need to keep him, and I think for the good of his career, he should stay with us.
I do have a feeling after how bang average we were last night, that it could be just the wake up call we need and it will be our time again next Sunday. Why not
Wouldn't say it's a chip more scars. He is a man who is very sensitive and feels criticism deeply. He wants people to believe in him, something he got at Luton but not at Stoke or Southampton. To be fair we only started to believe once he started delivering, understandably.
He is a complex deep thinking guy and he is OUR deep thinking complex guy. I just hope he has not used up all his energy yet,

Also remember that Wycombe have been a Football League club for only 30 years and had just one season above their current level.

I think having Curtis Fleming next to him helps a lot. Calming influence and someone for him to lean on when needed.
Great night to be had and one to be remembered for a long time and even longer if we win Sunday week but we won’t .
Charlton play off winners 45% Orient play off winners 55%
I’ve called losing finalists , mainly, for a few months , were due 3 of em ….to level up the numbers but I also called the same scenario and was wrong in 2019 !

How on earth has Kayne Ramsay been stuck playing in league 2?
Godden and Sky Sports interview after the game
