He's like the troubled kid at school that everyone tries to help, but he just can't stop himself. He is obviously very flawed and has done some terrible things, but I do feel sorry for him, for some reason. He can at least be quite witty and I generally take his side in his various feuds, e.g. Lampard, Shearer.

Barton was on Newsnight recently, chatting with Jeremy Paxman. I see a future for Joey as an EEC negotiator or diplomat

didn't hear it myself but apparently as Barton was being led away down the tunnel, Jeff Stelling's words were "is there anybody on the pitch he hasn't assaulted"

Highly paid professional footballer, not a Sunday morning park league player!

Tevez is also a slimebag and his antics provoked the situation yesterday.

he was unlucky i think 1st one on tevez job done 2nd on sergio needed a bit more power and the headbutt needed to connect for a full season on the sidelines 3 game ban must try harder 5/10

Joey Barton would be a great signing, he could add plenty of 'punch' to our midfield.

    Id take him..
  • Everyone acts like they're outraged, but they love it really.

I think he's an idiot. Balotelli gets a lot of bad press, but at least he's not a violent thug.
I would describe Balotellis stamp on Parkers head as pretty violent.

I agree that most people act outranged but they really love it as it give people someting to talk about. I belive Barton has anger problems which makes him a liability but admire the way he speaks his mind even though it doesnt do him any favours most of the time.

And instead we got "Mr Clean Shorts". History could have been very different. I wonder if he failed the Curbs "type" investigation?

Francis. Don't love it really (Barton's behaviour). Bad example. You'll end up having junior teams slugging it out all over the pitch. If Barton wants to fight and niggle maybe he should consider cage fighting.

Exactly, people expressing opinions on a forum... whatever next
  • The bloke has a lot of 'issues' for certain and unfortunately these have effectively held back what would have been a very good player from fulfilling his potential. He's certainly a complex character and I think the die is cast now but can't help thinking he needed more help, guidance, a good slap from a senior pro, whatever, when he first broke into the City team.

    I still hate twitter....

Stabbed a teammate in the eye with a cigar, assault and a 6 monh jail sentence, numerous horrific tackles on the football pitch (etuhu, alonso to name 2 instances), punching pederson while on the football pitch, elbowing kicking and headbutting yesterday....so yeh he's a twat.

Oh and also you say 'diving twats' well did you not see Barton getting Gervinho sent off??

It's going to be a long old summer on CL, isn't it

Please Mr Powell sign some players and please Mr Kavanagh sign a sponsorship deal so we have something to post about.

Had QPR had eleven players on the pitch, Manchester United might be champions, the ramifications of Barton's kind of stupidity can be endless.

I wish QPR had gone down then he would be getting slaughtered even more. Got to be 7-10 game ban I reckon.

Can't stand the bloke, refuse to follow him on twitter and stroke his ego like the 1.5m who are.

What did Shearer say about him that he disliked so much?
