For Stuart Fleetwood or Chris Dixson, read James Vardy. Good at Conference level but the step up to the Championship is a big one for a striker. £1m is a lot of money so time will tell if this is a success or not.
For his sake then I just hope he is given a run in their team. ...........from memory Fleetwood wasn't given a start in the League and Dickson wasn't given 2 league games on the trot - it does help if you are given a few games to get going !!

It's the one million price tag that makes this so shocking. Plenty of players in the conference who can make the step up. Usually not purchased for that sort of money though.

wow a lot of money for a non league player. Its one thing to destroy Ebbsfleet, its another to well against championship teams.

Too right, although we were saying the samish sort of thing about Pritchard at the start of the season (In terms of risk , not cost!)

Is this the first million pound fee for a non league player?

what about steve morison? he's done alright.

people talk about this 'step up', but is it really any different coming from non-league to someone playing at youth/reserve level and being promoted to a clubs first team.

If the kids got a bit of movement, pace and an eye for goal then he has the potential to do well.

£1million? That should make Fleetwood pretty sorted for the next few years financially.

We had a peek at him but we haven't paid a mill for the last 20 players we signed all together. Reality bites. I agree it's a huge step up and he'll be bench warming for the next two seasons, then get released.

According to the news reports yes...

I think Hayes did well out of Les Ferdinand - from memory they made a six figure sum when QPR sold him on to Newcastle.

I've only seen Vardy play twice (both cup games vs. Yeovil). He was better in the replay - scoring the clincher - but I have to say I wasn't overly impressed by him.

He's quick and is a very willing runner, but it all seemed to be a bit 'headless chicken'. His best moments came out in wider positions and I think he'd suit a 4-3-3 far more than a 4-4-2.

£1m is definitely a steep price to pay. I would hope that at least 50% of that is based on appearances, goals, promotion etc..

McFadden scored a great goal against us in our relegation season, 2007, but has had a bit part career since then.

sounds like he could nick a living then ala Mooney

Charlie Austin's another so they are out there but having a million quid price tag is a lot to live up to and neither of those examples cost anywhere near that (I think).

that figure could rise to £1.7m according to SSN.
  • We'll take Schlupp then...
Yes please....he's probably surplus to requirements there in the short term but remains very highly rated.

No to schlupp. Look what happened with the last leicester striker who they said was no good but Powell still went ahead and signed.

Not sure why but I get the feeling that Schlupp is going to be our next Darren Purse. Linked every transfer window yet never signing.
  • yet another potential transfer target that's gone elsewhere! seem's to me as if we are struggling to attract players this summer compared to last summer.

Oh dear. Where is the evidence that we have missed out on all these transfer targets?. Oh right, you take football rumours as gospel. Explains alot.

Massive gamble, Ched Evens was dog shit in the Championship but in L1 he ripped the league apart, that is one league below, Vardy is a Wednesday fan too, started his career with us and whilst he played in our youth/reserve team he had some serious off the field issues so we released him the Sheffields second team Stocksbridge PS, where he resurrected his career. - good luck to him, he's no young spring chicken now either.

Fantastic achievement made better by the fact he's English and he plays for an average prem side.

Roy needs to use him properly for The Euros.

He'll put Vardy at left back and put some kid from Liverpool's reserves up front
