Best Film Characters

Was thinking about this in the light of the sad passing of Richard Griffiths. What are your favourite characters in films? Not necessarily lead parts, but good ones all the same. For me:

Louis Cyphre (Robert DeNiro) - Angel Heart
Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) - District 9
Monty (Richard Griffiths) - Withnail & I

I think he is my absolute favourite. Honourable mentions also to Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, Jack D. Ripper in Dr Strangelove, and Chopper Read in Chopper.

The first time I went anywhere with desert I had to buy a stetson and poncho and get photos taken next to cacti with the Clint squint.

Seeing Hartman in FMJ has reminded me of Kilgore in Apocalypse Now, he's a good un. "If I say it's safe to surf, it's safe to God damn surf!"

the man with no name is a great choice. The Good The Bad and The Ugly I believe to be the greatest film i've ever seen (And ive seen the likes of the godfather and most other "greats") and possibly will ever see.

Michael Corleone and Vito Corleone, played by Pacino, Brando and De Niro.

HAL Computer I still rank as one of the most frightening villains ever.
